Ex-elders: did you ever confront anyone on FAKE HOURS
by Quotes ina few recent threads have been about faking hours in field service reports (for example, this one: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/72429/1.ashx).
a number of posters said they would never actually go in service, but still magically get in their hours each month.
my question to you ex-elders: did you ever confront someone on this?

As a general rule no, most elders including myself did not go around auditing publishers hours. However, I remember one CO visit we had. This guy was a real by the book hard nose and he wanted to know how one sister managed to get her 15hrs in each month without ever been seen in service so me and another elder were assigned to investigate. We approached this sister and asked her about this and she told us she got most of her hours witnessing informally to neighbours and doing street work and the only reason she could not be with the group was because her husband objected her leaving so early in the morning without making him breakfast. He was not a JW so her explanation made sense and we reported this at our next elder's meeting with this CO. This guy laughed and made a snide remark to the whole elder body that "we are not in the secret service" and we should encourage others to support the group. Real asshole this guy was, so much for understanding and compassion. Anyways, that was the beginning of the end for me as a JW.

Did you ever actually make a JW convert from the door-to-door work?
by True North inin all the years i went door to door as a jw, i never once had a study who went all the way to baptism.
in the thirty years i've know my wife -- who has been a jw all this time -- she has never made a single convert from going door to door either.
is this true of others on this forum?

Yes, unfortunately I got two people from the door to door work baptised. One went on to become an elder and the other I lost contact with after he moved away. After I left I tried to talk with the one who became an elder but was unsuccessful in opening his mind. I did manage to get two others out though when I left. One was already beginning to have doubts and all it took was a gentle push in the right direction for more information. The other was a very close friend and I was able to speak candidly with him. Once he saw the info. about the UN and Jimmy Swaggart that opened his eyes wide open and eventually helped him come out.

Circuit Overseer Explains How The Internet Is A Trap!
by minimus inmy mother told me that the co gave a talk on how a spider spins his web and it can take a very long time for the web to be made but just like that--- before you know it---it can catch its prey and devour it.
it's the same with the world wide web, the internet.
there are reports, according to the co, that in new york, a very prominent "anointed" man was disfellowshipped and he has his owm website where he has answered many jws questions.

Sounds like more desperate measures coming from the top. Hurray for freedom of information. The internet is one source the GB will not be able to control and will lead to their downfall. Their days are numbered and it is only a matter of time before every JW starts to get on the net to find out the "truth" behind the truth. -

New BLOOD Watchtower - June 15, 2004 Issue!
by UnDisfellowshipped inthe watchtower, june 15, 2004 issue, pages 14-24:.
" for the benefit of current readers, the answer is reprinted on pages 29-31 of this magazine.
19 near its conclusion, the reprinted answer on pages 29-31 says: "does the fact that opinions and conscientious decisions may differ mean that the issue is inconsequential?

Someone asked on this thread why does the WT confuse the hell out of this issue? Why does the WT obfusticate anything? Answer- to protect their own ass against legal liability. By obfusticating the issue they can say to the judge - Why judge we never told them that they couldn't take that. We left that for them to decide for themselves. And so they escape liability at the cost of thousands of lives sacrificed on the WT alter. -

Most $$ to WT Now Comes From Elderly!
by SAHS ini heard a senior elder at my congregation meeting a couple of weeks ago say that he heard the branch overseer for the canadian bethel, brother ken little, say, ?now most of the money coming in to the society is from seniors and their donations.?
the elder had recently been on a tour of the canadian bethel.
he also mentioned how brother little was telling about one woman who apparently ?left everything to the society.

Doesn't surprise me as most donations are coming from the elderly these days. I remember when I was still a dub an elderly brother who I liked very much told me he intended to give half his estate to the WT when he died. I felt that was wrong myself as his children would of probably benefited from the money but since his two sons were inactive and disfellowshiped he felt they didn't deserve it. What really bothered me though is the way the WT seems to show interest in these ones once they reach a certain age. A fellow elder told me that his elderly mom received an invitation from the branch for a visit. She went on that visit and was given the red carpet treatment and just praised for her life long loyalty and service to the organization. Of course upon her death I understood that a vast sum was left to the WT. It didn't have anything to do with that invitation did it? Those sneaky bastards.
One more trick I found absolutely disgusting was in the cong. where I served the elders there had a "way" of taking care of the elderly. If an elderly sister lived on her own and happen to own her own property the elders would assign a young pioneer couple or sister to move in with her to look after her and also get free boarding at the same time. Rather than leave this matter to any "worldly" relatives this matter was handled in this way as it was felt to be more "theocratic". It also benefitted the congr. and WT very well as usually at the death of the sister she would inevitably leave a sizable sum to the congr. or WT for the "kind" treatment she received. I have seen this happen on two occasions in the cong. I was in. Absolutely disgusting.

I agree with shotgun on this one. If he came there alone it was definitely on his own initiative. I doubt that the elders put him up to this to gather info. on you for the purpose of a JC as you would need another witness for something incriminating. He maybe genuinely concerned about you and is just wanting to let you know the situation has been dealt with. Then again he could of easily told you that over the phone so the fact that he came over to tell you this may indicate --> romantic interest?

To all those that have doubts about what good it would do to present info. like this to reach those impenetrable die hard JWs out there I would just like to let everyone know that I was one of them myself. I served as a pioneer, MS, and elder and always defended the Watchtower no matter what "apostates" presented. However, every bit of new info and scandal exposing the Watchtower I received always stayed with me and chipped away the confidence and trust I had in them until finally one day the wall of doubt could no longer be ignored and I had to investigate things myself. Needless to say that was the beginning of the end for me in the Watchtower. So never give up your efforts in reaching them. They may dismiss what you show them today but doubts will build inside them that may lead them out tomorrow. So to everyone on this forum active in exposing the lies of this organization I say keep up the good work as your work is not in vain! -

Special Assembly Day report 2003/2004
by truthseeker in2003/2004 special assembly day report.

brief note: no new light this year, but a couple of new changes i have not seen before.

Yeah, just another money making scam. I remember going to assemblies and there was always a deficit. They always needed money even though our circuit had some of the richest congregations in the city. One time they remodelled the whole assembly hall at a cost of 1M dollars which had to come out of the brothers pockets again. Where was the Society when we needed them? What about all those funds which supposedly went into the Kingdom Hall building fund? Apparently, even those funds are not given away by the Society. They are loaned back to the brothers with interest. So the Society collects money from the brothers and then loans it back to them and charges them interest on it! Great scam, the mafia couldn't have done better. Glad to be out of it now.
