Governing body GUILTY of wife beatings
by gumby inan ex-dub friend of mine and i were discussing the various ways in which the wts ( governing body) has in so many ways, been guilty of many ruined lives.
i mentioned to him something i had forgotten about......that being the policy the witnesses had in the past with regards to how a witness mate handled physical abuse by their non-believing mate who physically beat them over their religion.. i related to him how my wife and i used to take a sister with an abusive mate back and forth to meetings for quite some time.
many times she had black and blue marks on her face as well as other areas.

by Markfromcali inthe genetic manipulation thread got me thinking about this: as the times change, there will no doubt be more and more things the wts frowns upon, and these might be phrased in the ypa format similar to a list such as "you might be a redneck jedi if ..." so how about it?
i can't think of much now, but one elder once expressed that he didn't want his daughter to have a cd player.
it doesn't have to be technological, there's the social stuff... i know some of this has been done before so lets put it all in one thread!

A Christian question, but applies to all thinking Christian too!
by free2beme inno longer being a christian, it has become a mind opening experience to look back and see certian things i once ignored or just brushed off.
yet now i can not help but see these things and wonder why other christians do not.. if you have ever studied greek, roman or any other cultures religions in history.
then you have no doubt read their legends, about gods and how things came to be, and no doubt you have enjoyed these and at the same time you must have wondered how people actually bought this enough to make it a religion.

In many ways I have to agree with you. I'm agnostic, I have some form of belief in 'God' but not in the Chrisitan way.
The Bible was supposed to be divnely inspired, yet the new testiment is COMPLETELY different than the old testiment in terms of the message. A good one for those who having given up on the JW's go back to the trinity - if Jesus and God were one why was he such a ball breaker in the old testiment, and a turn the other cheek type of guy when on earth? To me if the bible was indeed insprired it would have a consistent theme - it does not.
So even if the bibles accounts of Jesus were based upon fact [and the gospells are very different] what does that prove? Nothing I can see.

by Apostanator insince i was told to wait on jehovah, the brother who raped my ex-wife had just turned 83. what happens if he dies before jehovah gets here?
the elders told me that jehovah would take care of things soon.
so my question is, what's your definition of soon?

most of us have come to a rational conclusion that the jw / wtb is directed by a bunch of old men not directed by the holy spirit, is fallable, and cynically changes doctrine.
so to be against that is not to be appostate.

Not from the JW definition we are not; they would have to be "gods one true religion" for their definition of appostate to apply. The one that has us all condemed to no resurection even if we die before armagedon crap.
So then every catholic, baptist they convert is an apostate from their religion. So why do the JW's call that "oposition". I'd say the other religions are a lot more easy to live with, or without that our old friends.
