Something a CO once said.
by cappytan in"there are only three reasons you should miss a meeting.
fever, fracture or funeral.
everything else is a sorry excuse.

He said "Funeral" was a reason to miss a meeting? I'm sure I have heard it said "Let the dead bury the dead". In other words, don't miss meetings because someone has died. -

25 YEARS of compiled yearbook statistics
by 88JM inhello again folks - as promised in my last thread here, i've been working on turning yearbook statistics into excel spreadsheets.. coincidentally, today is my 25th birthday (spare a thought for a fader).. i've now updated the spreadsheet with yearbook data all the way back to 1988 (the year i was born), therefore it now contains 25 years of statistics.. there were a lot of countries changing around and for some it was possible to create a continuation of data.
some are a simple change of name like south-west africa to namibia.
others, for example - in 1993 with czechoslovakia splitting into two countries (czech republic and slovakia) i have added an extra row that provides a continuation of the data, combining czech republic and slovakia back together as if they were still one country.

Wow, that came from JW Broadcasting. That means its wrong to miss a meeting because of work. Poor wife has to go on her own. Does she work to provide any income? I guess not because she is filling out a pioneer form. -

Here are the key points that I remembered.
At the very beginning of this meeting we were told that no recordings are to be taken and any notes we make are for our personal use only and not to be made available to anyone else. Is this really how Jehovah wants his knowledge of truth treated? Keep it to ourselves? Hearing this I knew there must be something in one of these talks that they don't want recordings of to come back to bite them in the future.
After the WT study came a short video about the organization and how the new donations arrangement is working and that some 13000 more KHs are needed around the world. So you brothers need to give more money was the guilt message brought out in this talk.
Then came the main speaker. Sorry not sure of his name, but he was aged and had a UK accent. His talk contained mostly experiences from remote area's of Russia. Experiences that sounded to far fetched to be true or they had to be modified to tickle the audiences ears.
Now for what I believe to be the key point as to why they don't want recordings of this meeting made. During this same talk, he talked about the young ones and how they need to advance in the truth because it is you brothers that will be bringing Jehovah’s people on into the new system. It would be embarrassing for them if this audio was around in 50+ years and this system is still here. (Remember the 1969 awake article about young ones not growing old in this system).

I quit the Theocratic Ministry School
by My Name is of No Consequence inafter almost 24 years in the school and doing it since i was nine years old, i officially resigned.
it has become increasingly difficult to prepare talks, especially with the new format for brothers.
i did not mind doing them; i actually put the time and effort into getting them out.

Great blog. I too finally quit the school about a year ago. Joined it 13 years before that. I never wanted to join it, but the then school overseer then came up to my wife and I and asked us if he could put us on the school. My wife said yes but I didn't get a chance to say no before the overseer walked away, then I got my first talk slip...13 years later I finally got the courage to send the school overseer a txt saying I wanted to be taken off the school. His reply was "that's fine, can we meet up for a catchup". So we did, I was nervous not knowing what could happen. But it actually when very well, He only made a quick passing comment about dropping off the school. The rest of this catchup time (about 30min) was great, no religious (JW) topics were talked about. Now that a year has gone since ending the school, I couldn't be happier, a real weight off my shoulders. Ive learned my lesson, If only I had had this courage years earlier. -

The beginning of the end for shunning?
by Saltheart Foamfollower inthe borg seem to prepare for changes by missing explanations out for a while then presenting a "new understanding" which doesn't contradict the most recent discussion.check out the most recent references to gog - no identification as satan.. in today's wt study, paragraph 15 concerning benefitting from the prodigal son stated "if we meet a person who has strayed from the congregation, will we offer loving and practical help to assist him to return?
" there is no footnote or other qualifier saying not to go to disfellowshipped ones (who are definitely the ones being talked about) which is still the official policy.
i know this isn't an ending to shunning, but it may signal the start of the preparation for a change.

Almost all JWs I know view those who have left the organization has being on the same level has those DA'd or DF'd. They are all to scared to have any contact what so ever with someone who has strayed, let alone "offer loving and practical help to assist him to return". -

The Fear mongering of this weeks WT study!
by stuckinarut2 inhave you all read this weeks study article?.
oh my word it is full of fear inducing tactics....doom and gloom outlooks.... anxiety inducing methods to develop absolute control over witnesses and cripple them in any attempt to think for themselves!.
(notice i am saying "themselves" rather than "ourselves"?!

After this WT finished, comments overheard were: What a wonderful WT study, Worldly people are so blind that they can't see how close to the end we are. Our WT conductor even told us that when we are hiding in this basement, all elders can log into JW.ORG to get the latest instuctions from HQ. It is very possible that the mail service will be down but JW.ORG will still be available. If you don't attend every meeting you will be left outside...

I'm still waiting to see how long it will be before my wife and all her JW Facebook friends catch on to this video. Nothing yet, and I'm not going to be the first to show her.
