I was a "good" JW girl, but my brother (2 years younger than me) and his 3 buddies were BAD...
They carved holes out of their bibles (or other publications) pages and put dope in it. From what I understand, they then sold it to some teens at the assembly, and/or smoked it themselves.
we were asked if we would volunteer for this important work of asking our bible students or good return visit clients if they could rent a room out to out of town delegates attending the da.
we opened up our home to a nice family and we became friends.
for many years we would visit each other and they would stay w/us when they went to ny to visit relatives.
I remember this well...
I grew up in Vancouver, 4 city blocks from the PNE grounds where the conventions were held.
We had EVERYONE and their dog sleeping EVERYWHERE in our small (no more than 800 sq ft home.)
I also remember going out and canvassing the area for rooms in our territory for the delegates from out of town to stay at. I think it was usually during the "International Conventions."
We had some folks from Idaho stay with us for one assembly, too. The son kept in touch with me for a few years by letter.
My mother is still in contact with one delegate who came to stay with us in the 70s from Calgary.

i have a gf that has a 5 year old dog.
very sweet and easy going.
she is traveling a lot over the next two months and the person who was suppose to watch her dog has all of a sudden backed out.
I worried about this too when I brought my dog (shepherd/lab) home to my cats.
It turns out, I had nothing to worry about. They are the best of friends. They sleep together, share food, clean each other (licking), and communicate with each other. It's really cool.
But any cat that enters the yard who isn't a kitty-cat family member gets chased away quickly and forcefully by the dog.
i'd say out of 10 elders, the average "sharp" ones are 2 or 3.
I left a cong. in Langley, BC nine years ago (1997). Before I left, there was this incredibly smart (in my opinion) elder who was there for me when my now-ex husband left me (just days before our 5th baby was born) and moved in with a girl at his work (late 1993). He came by, no questions asked, and I felt real love from the elder arrangement (and his family) for the 1st time in my life. I felt he really cared for me. However, he soon left with his family to go to "where the need was great" to the Dominican Republic around 1994.
In 1997, I moved to this small town about 3 1/2 hours from Langley, BC to Westbank, BC - 16,000 pop. when I moved here - now about 45,000 people. I went to a few meetings once I move here - but not too many. At one of the last meetings I attend in 2002, I see this elder who'd helped me through my divorce. He'd moved back from the DR, and settled near to the same town (same cong.) where I'd moved. lt was kind of like: "What are you doing here?"
"I live here now, what are you doing here?"
"I live here now"...wow! Talk about coincidence!
Anyway....I got df'd in 2002, and I haven't attended a meeting other than the district assemblies 'til 2005, and the memorial in 2005.
About a year ago, I asked a JW patient from the cong. I used to attend, when she came into the office, how everyone was doing. She told me that this elder was now DF'd and was an "apostate." I was in shock. He was the best elder to ever council me...and he had never did anything inapropriate!
A few months later I ran into him while shopping. He's got facial hair, and frankly, looks nothing like I recall him - but he did look good (interestingly, he said I looked good, too). I said I'd heard about his df'ment. He said he had some questions that weren't answered appropriately (I still need to contact him about this - I'd like to know what his questions were - because I still was planning a return when I saw him, so I didn't ask him further questions.)
I recently ran into two of his daughters at the mall. We hadn't seen each other since Langley, but still recognized each other. They told me their dad was still df'd and they were totally disillusioned with the JW's. I told them I had seen the "truth about the truth" too, and had no desire to return. I asked them if they'd read COC and it turns out they were just reading it.
I think I should try to get this ex-elder and his family over for dinner one day soon....if I weren't so self-conscious about being able to do a dinner.

but to be honest joan is such a nice person that i had the pleasure of meeting at a ex-jws convention.

the highest i ever got was my being considered for a ministerial servant back in fall'ish 2004. .
of course, i also started college that semester, and was given an ultimatum and now i'm here .
but anyway, when and what was your pinnacle height in the organization?
When I was 10 to 15 years old. I read the bible, pioneered when I could, and preached wholeheartedly.
At 16, I began to have doubts and found things that didn't made sense to me, yet I got baptised anyway. I totally trusted my grandparents/parents with knowing the "truth," and figured I'd get it over time with enough prayer and study. I was wrong.
It took me to my 30s to understand it didn't make sense, because it just doesn't make sense.
I'm not too much of a poster, more of a lurker. But JW really p'd me off. After a fair number of PM's I've concluded that:
1. JW is a relatively new JW, with no realization that he/she is not following the ORG's rules in coming here. He/She seems to think that they are above the rules of the GB, and that He/She is going to "help" someone "return to the fold" by hs/her posts here.
2. JW makes his/her own rules. JW claims she/he isn't required to do door-to-door, because he/she has 7 kids. I've told JW I know this is not what I've experienced. As a single mom of 6, I was still required to put in a field service report. I think JW is a newbie to the JWs and if what he/she says is true: "family first," that he/she is not fully informed of what's ahead of JW, and that He/she's been given some time to come into the "correct thinking of JW's" as a newbie.
3. JW blamed me in PMs for making him/her reach their post limit for the day, because he/she p'd me off to the point of spewing out my anger with the ORG with him/her...then went on to say that that should make me "happy"...leading me to believe he/she is a combatitive person with no real Christian qualities.
4. JW thinks he/she is going to rescue the "lost sheep" by posting here. He/She seems to be a haughty JW, and not a true "christian" JW.
5. JW throws out scriptures to me, that I've heard many times before. He/ she thinks it's going to convince me to return to JWs. The only problem is, JW isn't following the scriptures that refer to his/her being here, posting. He/she seems to think he/she can override the recommendations/rules of the GB. JW is also very paranoid. When I quoted a true JW would avoid this place (1 cor 5:11-13) found it suspicious that I left vs 10 out.
I've told JW, that like me, posting here is going to "wake him/her up" rather than help one of us return to "the fold;" but JW thinks that he/she is too spiritually strong for that.
