If I became a Morman, I would see it as digging myself out of one trap, only to fall into another. Only difference, the Morman's at least think it is okay to have a decent enough job to make money ... as long as you pay back 10%. Studying the Morman faith and getting any honest answers from their believers is hard. Morman's will not tell you what is really happening in the faith, unless you are a "true" believer. You think the Witnesses have secrets, you haven't seen nothing yet, until you unwrap the LDS package.

If you want shock value, accuse someone in a position that is high enough to get notice.

What silly rules did your congregation make up?
by weinermcgee inelders were famous for making up stupid rules with no bible base at all as an ego trip i guess, what were some of yours?
i am not talking about the stupid rules that we all had to follow, just the congregation specific silly ones.. 1. having to button your jacket while on stage (this was later changed due to all the elders having a beer gut).
2. suits only or no privledges.

OH, THIS ONE IS WORTH NOTING!
Eagle Point, Oregon
I was not in this congregation when this happened. I was, however, close with elders and servants who were.
In 1995, the elder body decided that handguns were evil. So they told the congregation, all elders and servants (Pioneers too), needed to get rid of their handguns if they wished to remain in their positions. Here is the kicker, selling the gun was not enough. On a Saturday afternoon, they set up at the Kingdom Hall and actually dismantled handguns and smashed them. They then took the pieces and threw them in the trash. The thinking was, if you sold such an evil item, it was no different then selling a demon possessed book to someone else. Later, the elders were visiting other elders home, servant's home and Pioneer homes'. Anyone who was known to have a handgun, and did not show up that Saturday or show proof that they had discarded the handgun, was checked to make sure it was no longer in their home and explain where it went. Which, is they did not say "smashed and trashed" they were at risk of removal from their position.
Are you creeped out yet, it's all true!

Ever have something weird happen in meeting, with APOSTATES!
by free2beme ini was at a meeting one time and the elder was giving the talk on "sex and marriage" on a sunday.
i always hated this talk and the elder giving it always seemed uneasy with such a bold topic in a mixed age group.
well, right in the middle of the talk, this woman stood up and asked "so, are you saying oral sex is wrong?

I remember a few events with unbelieving spouses at our meetings too. I always thought they were being controled by demons. I could not help it, I was a Witness!

I was at a meeting one time and the elder was giving the talk on "SEX and MARRIAGE" on a Sunday. I always hated this talk and the elder giving it always seemed uneasy with such a bold topic in a mixed age group. Well, right in the middle of the talk, this woman stood up and asked "So, are you saying oral sex is wrong?" Well the elder responses in a political, "your conscience needs to guide you" response and mentioned that if she would like he would talk to her after the meeting. She set down, and he went on, then she stands up and says, "so what is wrong with anal sex" and the elder asked her to be seated and again said "I can talk to you later." The woman started getting louder and louder, about how it was wrong to tell people what they can and can not do in their own bedroom, especially if they were married. Attendants came and asked her to leave and she did with a man who was recently disfellowshipped. She was his girlfriend, and you could tell she wanted to make a scene. It was kind of a weird event and what was really weird, was that after the meeting, everyone was afraid to talk about it. Only later, away from the hall, did we mention it. Weird? So anyone else have something like this happen?

There was a time when I was Pioneering that I did, I am not lying, I honestly read the magazines from cover to cover for awhile. It helped with door to door presentations.

How many are still in the "I want to argue scripture stage?"
by free2beme inwhen i left the witnesses, i picked up a bunch of christian books on what the bible says.
isn't it weird that you have to have so many books, just to tell you what another book is saying?
anyway, i went through this phase where i still wanted to argue scripture with people.

Anyway, I went through this phase where I still wanted to argue scripture with people. Only in reverse! I was preparing myself for all those family questions, about how I don't believe what the Witnesses believe when they are always so right. It lasted about six months, now I only have one Bible and I think it is in a box in the garage some where and when people want to argue scripture with me, I just tell them "no thanks!" ... why argue about a book? It is a stage though, and wondered if others went through it or are in it.

Just remember, you don't want to push them to hard ... freedom a little at a time, and let trust build up. Remember, your son will soon be getting to your daughters age and you will let him get away with stuff she would have never done. Because you will learn from experience that some things are just not that big of deal, after the fact.
