I bet some people stayed because they didn't want anyone looting their property.

Do any white people live in New Orleans?
by sonnyboy ini've never been there myself, but every single person being shown on the news is black.
wading through the streets, stranded on rooftops, etc.
i'm not sure if the media is just focusing on certain areas of new orleans or if it's a predominantly african american city.. the only footage i've seen other than this has been mardi gras and that consists mostly of tourists.

STUPID PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BREATHE!!!!!
That's not a very nice way to talk about Christians.

Where (Who) in the World is Hibiscusfire?
by Big Dog ini noticed that hibie hasn't posted since the dating thread where it was pointed out that she borrowed some of her material from other websites, blogs, etc.. hibie has quickly become a fixture here with her threads that draw responses like crazy and her unusual preaching style.
i don't think i am alone in wondering just who she really is since she seems to avoid all questions directed to her about who she is, how she came to this website, what she is trying to accomplish.. she has been called everything from mentally ill, to born again, to a troll by those on the board.. hibie, in all seriousness, i'd really like to know who you are and how you got here.
if you are a teenager having fun, that's okay, but some of the stuff on this forum isn't really appropriate for a younger teen.

Do you see the average Jehovahs Witness as a victim...?
by trevor ini think most of us appreciate the difference between the tyrannical watchtower society and the average sheep like followers who make up the congregations.
we have been jehovahs witnesses so we know how brainwashed they are.
i am interested in knowing how you feel towards jehovahs witnesses individually and whether you hold them accountable.

I definitely see them as victims.
If they were able to fully open their eyes and free themselves from years of conditioning, they'd most likely leave like the rest of us.
Then again, what the Witnesses offer is too great for some people to let go of...everlasting life and hope. They want so desperately to live in this world without any pain or suffering and to be reunited with their loved ones that they're prepared to believe and do anything. All my aunt talks about is how her son with MD will be able to walk again in the new system.
No other religion offers this false hope but the JWs. Desperate people take desperate measures.

what will they do about school for the hurricane kids?
by Mulan inhas anyone heard?
the schools are probably destroyed, and the ones that are being bused to houston surely can't go into the texas school system.
too many of them.. it just occurred to me that this is one more problem for the survivors.. i wonder if there will be the outpouring from the world, like there was for the tsunami.

The only thing I heard is that they're not expecting school to resume for three to four months.
Not only did the kids lose their homes, but their summer vacation as well.

Why did god threaten to kill moses while he was going to egypt?
by Elsewhere inexodus 4
24now it came about at the lodging place on the way that the lord met him [moses] and (ab)sought to put him to death.
25then zipporah took (ac)a flint and cut off her son's foreskin and threw it at moses' feet, and she said, "you are indeed a bridegroom of blood to me.

Did You See All Those Looters?!!!
by Doubtfully Yours inafter such a tragedy???!!!.
shoot them!!!
shoot them all!!!.

As far as leaving a number, that would be ideal if they weren't fighting other looters for what littlet scraps of food are left.
I'm sure the last thing on their minds is looking through the rubble for a pen and a piece of paper.
What I'm wondering is where these people are going once they get the food. They seem to be wading into nowhere.

On the flip side of that argument, and with some valid points....anyone with half a brain knew that they lived in a bowl below sea level and knew what a strong hurricane would do. Those people left.
I have to wonder, if something like that happened in my area, where would I go if I didn't have money for a hotel? My entire 'local' family lives in close proximity, and the rest of them live thousands of miles away. My distant relatives are indeed distant, and if I showed up on their doorsteps they wouldn't even know who I was.
Most of the people who stayed seemed to be poor and probably couldn't afford to leave, or perhaps they didn't have any means of transportation (or they were just stupid like you say).
I think I'd scrape up my last dime and take the nearest bus out of state, even if I had to camp out in the woods for a while. But that's just me...
