End of the World Near?
by love2Bworldly ini am wondering how many people out there still believe that in the next 100 years or so that this world/earth is going to be destroyed?.
my husband is a christian, and sometimes he is obsessed with world events in the middle east and he thinks one day soon all the christians are going to be raptured away to heaven while the antichrist rules here on earth.
i am extremely uncomfortable when he talks about it because it reminds me of the jws.. any thoughts out there?

well, i think we are headed for an ecological disaster and energy crisis in the future. life will change, but certainly not end.
This disaster may be brought on if the Endangered Species Act is nullified. I hear that many land owners are complaining about the ESA because it limits when they can do with their land (as in alter the landscape), and they also claim that many of the 'endangered species' are now plentiful and not threatened.
So, what would happen to the environment if this act were lifted? The only forests we'd see would be in national parks,

What is your quirkiest quirk?
by damselfly ini, damselfly, can not knowingly eat the little squiggly, umbilical cord things in eggs.
i have to very carefully separate the whites from the yolk and remove the squiggly bits with a knife.
i get gaggy just thinking about them.

Everything I buy must be completely perfect. If I get something home and see the slightest blemish, I'll take it right back and exchange it.
I bought a new car a couple years ago and noticed that a very small spot (maybe 1 cm in diameter) on the rear bumper had an uneven tone to it, which no one else could really notice, so I had them repaint it. I also sent my laptop back to Dell when it arrived with a tiny mark beside the DVD bay.

Elder Condemned Me to Death
by Grace ini have been thinking about this because of another post where the question asks have any of us ever been blackmailed to stay in the watchtower organization.. no, i won't say i was blackmailed; however, after i wrote my note of disassociation, the congregation overseer wanted to visit me in my home with two other elders.
i repeatedly said no, that i would not allow them to chastise me in my own home.
therefore, all of my conversations were over the phone with the overseer.

Doesn't the bible specifically say not to condemn?

"Jehovah God" wording
by carla indo jw's even realize that to 'outsiders' the wording of "jehovah god" makes it sound like they are trying to distinguish between 'other gods' and 'jehovah god'?
sorry, if i'm not clear enough.
jw's i've talked to cannot seem to understand the question.

they are trying to make a differentiation between their one true god, and other false gods
This may be their reasoning, but it's still not proper English. Apparently they're using 'god' as a title, and in English, titles come before the actual name.
How many times have you heard 'Elizabeth Queen'? 'Charles Prince'? 'Bush President'? 'Judy Judge'?
These idiot witnoids are obiously not avid Word users. If anything, it should be 'God Jehovah', but even that sounds unnecessarily redundant.

I used to be against abortion, but as a now-nontheist, I don't think there's anything wrong with it.The fetus' brain isn't developed enough to know what going on, and I don't believe that there is a "spirit" or a "soul" to destroy. It's nothing more than a 'potential' cognitive human being.
So, what's worse, getting rid of a child that should NEVER HAVE BEEN CONCEIVED, or bringing said unwanted child into an overpopulated world that will most likely present a lifetime of pain and suffering? If abortion is even considered by the parent(s) then apparently the child was not wanted. Some may say that adoptive parents will solve this problem, but the child will eventually find out that it was nothing more than an accidental, unwanted child and still suffer psychological pain.
So, if aborting a fetus will prevent future pain, then I'm all for it.
