just to let you know, the recent storms in the gulf coast of the southern us are well known in iraq.

in fact, mosque messages in town are saying that the storms are punishment from god for the occupation of iraq.

Hi Andrew, good to hear from you again. Troucul is just reporting what he sees and hears in Iraq. Obviously, punishment from God because the US army is in Iraq is BS. But we know that fundamentalists will believe such claims.... unfortunately.

These fundies who say that it's punishment for the occupation of Iraq..... what do they think would happen if the US pulled out today ?

Christian Fundies here in the US use the "punishment from God" for all kind of tragedies, I know Simon. AIDS is one example. (Edited, because I was not quite awake the first time around...) Andrew, when can you leave Iraq this time around ?

Disfellowshipped for being fat and not watching my cholesterol

i find the concept of taking select warnings of the medical and science world, to disfellowship members, and ignoring others ... all the more interesting as i think about it.

after all, heart desease is the biggest killer in the americas.

heart desease and heart related deaths are often linked to and not exclusive to; obesity, high cholesterol, fatty foods, not exercising, high stress, etc.. with this in mind, i dare someone to call an elder and report that they saw one of the local witnesses eating at mcdonalds, even though the doctor warned them it could kill them.

isn't this the "you know" that used to plague the boards?

here we go with the watchtower is right but all the leaders are wrong, so i reluctantly have to write this book so all will know that i am a prophet!

WTS requesting insurance checks? Verification?

i have read comments on several threads about the wts policy on asking folks whose homes have been repaired/rebuilt by jw volunteers to sign over their insurance checks to the wts?.

is there any kind of paper proof of this policy anywhere?

any further details would be kindly appreciated!!.

I asked : Who pays for the building materials ? I was thinking, maybe in some cases, it's the people who lost their house who buy the building materials.

Presumably those who voluntarily donate to relief efforts.

If you have insurance, and they come and fix your house up for you, I don't think there is anything wrong in asking that you consider donating some money when you get your check, I really don't.However, signing over the whole check...it they are actually bringing your house back to where it was before the damage I can see that, but if they are not...then no. But if I had insurance and they worked on my house I would donate some of it. I think that is fair

OK, then, why donate money to the Watch Tower Society, who has done nothing to help.... The money should be given back to the people who actually donated the building materials and their time and skills.

they rebuilt houses "free of charge" and asked that the homeowner donate their insurance check to the WTS so that it could perpetuate the fixing of peoples homes.

If I may ask.... who pays for the building materials when they re-build houses "free of charge" ?

i have not, nor will go back to "meetings" after finding out how i was spiritually mislead through the years.i have actually found more comfort in doing my own studying.

my wife still goes occassionaly and her sister and brother-in-law just started going back.

so we went over there house the other night and we got into a conversation in which he said they went to the meeting today (sunday).

Ask them, "If I were a sincere Bible-believing Christian in the year 1850, what 'organization' should I have been associating with? How about 1750? 1650? 1550?"
