Persecution of JWs in Israel
by Asylum Researcher ini'm researching the question of whether a jw would have reason to fear persecution in israel.
i'd appreciate any info either supporting or refuting such persecution.
thanks.

Harry Potter ``imbued with Christian morals''?
by Derrick inmany jehovah's witnesses confused about whether the watchtower society is really the administrative arm of the "faithful and discreet slave class" might breath easier to know that another organization claiming to be god's spokesperson declared at a press conference that they "don't see any problems in the harry potter series.
" associated press (ap) reports the vatican is giving the harry potter series two thumbs up and announced at a vatican press conference "the good vs. evil plot lines of the best-selling books are imbued with christian morals.
" the question in many jw parents minds is whether the governing body's silence on the popularity among children of harry potter indicates they agree with the vatican on its moral assessment of this children's fable?

"Universal Values" or Christian morals, whatever you call it, yes they're there in the Harry Potter books. Friendship, tolerance, courage....etc

Eminem is awesome.... powerful lyrics and music.... or rythm.... I get goosebumps and my heart races when I listen to some of his songs. And I am 50 years old. I must admit the underlying anger is troublesome. I took my kid to see his movie, 8 mile. That was something... They did not let older teenagers in if they couldn't prove they were over 17 y.o. and if they were not accompanied by a parent or guradian.... but they let much younger kids in because a parent was with them.... Gosh there was a 3 y.o. in front of us, he was very upset with some of the images....

The French... Why do they hate us?
by email inwe've been talking about this lately on this board... this is yet another article from msn.com.. http://slate.msn.com/id/2077874/.
"much of the french opposition to american power arose after the fall of the soviet union made the united states the only power in a unipolar world: according to one poll, the percentage of the french who viewed the united states "with sympathy" dropped from 54 to 35 percent between 1988 and 1996. but french grumbling over u.s. power predates the end of the cold war, too.
as philip h. gordon outlined in the national interest in 2000 (during the clinton administration), "resentment and frustration" have marked french-american relations since the end of world war ii.

EMan : You're absolutely right. The French I know would be delighted to help out Americans during their stay in France. But of course if you act like a pompous jerk who thinks he's better just because he's American, you will have difficulties.... Aaahh... Cognac, what a beautiful part of France that is...

Whyhideit, I just don't like stupid generalizations.... French people have an odor about them.... Americans do too, after traveling for 12 or 24 hours, it's difficult not to. And the French I know are very thankful for the American soldiers who came to free the country from the Germans. In fact, all the French I know love Americans and are not so fond of the Germans....
Farkel, You're right about the Parisians.... Most native Parisians are snobs and look down on everybody who is not a Parisian, and not just people from other countries, but also French people from other parts of France... OK, now we can recycle this thread Do you need an interpreter on your next trip to France

I have been to France many times. From what I experienced, they have a odor about them. It was also the rudest nation I ever visited. Sorry, but I hear people slamming the USA all the time. Time the French get some, since they don't want to help with Iraq.
Tell me Whyhideit : where were you in France ? In a vineyard, at 4 pm, after picking grapes for 6 hours in the sun ? Yes, I am sure the workers there would have an odor about them ! Tell me also what makes you say France is the rudest nation you've ever visited ? I know many rude americans and you sound like one of them.
As someone said, why should all the countries in the world go along with trigger happy Bush ?

ISP : Thank you, I liked your answer.
Farkel says :
They are just jerks, but compared with the Arabs, jerks aren't so bad.
You don't usually generalize like that. I am disappointed... There are jerks in France, and there are jerks in the USA. I've lived here for 15 years or so. I met many people I would consider jerks. Do you know any french jerk personally ?

Whyhideit: Is that supposed to be a joke ? I hear all the time from ignorant americans who have never set foot outside their own state telling whoever wants to listen that the french don't shower, are dirty and stink, that the french women don't shave their legs and whatever else.... Have you ever met a real French man or woman face to face ? Have you sat in a french cafe and noticed that everyone around you stunk ? (or is it stank?)
About the french language vs. english : The americans are so arrogant ! They go as tourists to a foreign country and expect everybody to speak english ! and get pissed off if noone understands them ! When you are a guest in another country, you try your best to fit in, and trying to speak the language is one way to do it.
