I think the song was Hail Jehovah's First Born with the lyrics.......let's stim-u-late our brothers.......to hail's God's first born too, or something like that. Always had to hold back a grin on that one with the emphasize being placed on stimulate in the song. Just thought it was funny.

Hey Luna,
Sorry to hear you have the blues. Spring tends to make people blue sometimes, which is odd because the weather is beautiful and flowers are blooming, etc. Transitional seasons like spring and fall are noted for causing people to feel depressed. I understand fall but not spring. Anyway, all the advice everyone gave was wonderful, like getting outside, walking, yoga, eating right, getting enough rest, watching a funny movie (Notting Hill or Doc Hollywood are two of my favorites) and of course, chocolate.... I am baking a german chocolate cake right now. Have been wanting to bake it for two weeks now and finally gave in today. Must be my form of self medicating as I've been feeling a little blue myself. Baking is also very therapeutic for me. And don't forget ringing up an old friend on the tele might help......you know I'm always available for a chat.

ELDERS BREAK UP GROUP OF SISTERS - WHY?
by juni ina friend told me tonight that the elders broke up a group of sisters who were all experiencing various degrees of depression and enjoyed the upbuilding association with each other.. why would they do this?
according to them for two reasons:.
because this looks bad to the cong.

Calico -- Good for you on talking that sister out of buying the expensive soap.
I was invited to more selling parties than I care to remember. It seemed like it was always the same sisters having these parties. I think they knew full well that the sisters invited would feel obligated to buy and I also think it was taking advantage of the "friends".

Luna--I know! How dare those rebellious older women.
I'm sure one of them would have had to wear a head covering (the one who was leading them in song) had they decided to go with the kingdom songs. lol.

These experiences remind me of a bunch of older sisters in one of the congregations I attended who used to get together and sing songs that were popular back when they were young women. They invited this elder's wife to join them but the elders wife decided that they should not be singing these "worldly" songs and wanted them all to sing Kingdom Melodies at their little get togethers. This created quite an uproar with the little group of sisters and they ended up excluding this elder's wife by never inviting her again. Right on sisters. Way to go. They weren't gonig to be bullied...

Certainty, truth, and the JW's
by Check_Your_Premises inpardon me while i think out loud.
this is kind of half baked.
to know truth is perhaps the most illusive and yet most important things.

Hey CYP. Not sure if you have ever checked out anything on cognitive dissonance and jehovah's witnesses. I found it very interesting. When I was first studying with the witnesses I had problems accepting what they were teaching as truth, but at some point I just gave up these thoughts, all the doubts I was having, repressed my feelings and rationalized that if they don't have the truth then who does and deadened my conscience and accepted it ALL as truth. After reading many articles on line about the cognitive dissonance theory I believe this is exactly what I did in my mind. I threw out all my knowledge of what I knew to be the truth and started believing the lie. I deadened my own conscience and accepted blindly everything the WTS handed out. It's at that point that your mind shuts down and doesn't question anything any further, until one day you wake up (hopefully) and say to yourself, wait a minute, this is not right, and start questioning things again.

Locks of Love--Can you ever imagine JWs doing such a thing?
by rebel8 intoday hundreds of people are volunteering their hair for an org that provides wigs to cancer pts.
the today show in nyc had a few folks allow their long hair to be cut for donation and there are hundreds in another locale doing the same.
there are even little kids doing it!.

I knew of a sister who would sell her hair for money. I think it went to cancer patients. The idea of donating something to a charity isn't heard of too often. The witnesses I knew always wanted money for everything. I also knew a sister who would give boxes of clothes to a charity but then she would get a receipt so she could itemize the "donation" on her taxes. Not that there is anything wrong with deducting donations from your taxes, but she used to ask other sisters for their leftover garage sale items for this purpose. She must have had quite a deduction in her taxes.

Do you rather confront the elders or not answer the door?
by JH in.
i'm the type that rathers not answer the door, when an elder will come over, to try to bring me back on the road of eternal life.
how about you, do you rather answer the door to them, or just avoid opening the door, when you know it's them?
-
MsShockJock
I don't answer the door. I had a peep hole installed on my door for that reason alone.
