katrina and now, possibly, rita.

(this focuses on romantic love with someone you might have sex with.).
looking at the world from an evolutionary/natural selection basis, life exists to reproduce.
if it can live through the process, that's fine.
I dont even think there is such a thing as love. That's right. I said it. There is no love. Possibly between mother and infant, but I suspect that can fade as well. It's an illusion projected by our minds to convince ourselves that all of the energy that we are transmitting out of us and onto our subject is done for something other than self-gratification. But because deep down we are completely selfish beings on one level or another, it somehow justifies our selfishness and makes us feel good.
Like that saying that the only love you get is the love you give... No one really "loves" us in the sense we believe, as one is only capable of loving ones' self. All the while, we confuse ourselves into thinking we love other persons. It's a cultural norm to accept a belief that we love and are in love. The emotional attachment we feel is present to fill a void, cure loneliness, convince another person to assist us in procreation, and so on.
I admit my theory needs some work... I haven't completely thought it through. Just throwing it out there.
it feels soooo good having finished the last assignment for the open university courses i've been doing - the 18th one this year .
now i just have to revise for the exams (3 of them over 2 days) ... and if i get at least 40% then i pass, get an extra qualification and we get extra immigration points to get us on our way to canada.
anything extra is a bonus ... distinctions would be nice but i need to get 85% in the exams for that.. although i resent the impact of the wts on my life and not being able to go to university when i should, this actually isn't a bad way to do it - you don't run up massive debts like current students do and because you have more experience probably do better at a subject than if you are starting out.
I've always wanted to teach. But I'm scared now of dropping my career for four years to go back to school. I have financial obligations now. I wish I could study and work fulltime at the same time....Just do a bit at a time ... if you can use something like the OU then they can help with funding if you don't have the income. You don't have to take on too much - just do a starter course first of all and before you know it you will be half way there and have the incentive to see it all through.
something else to consider...distance learning. i've just started my first "online" class and i think it is worth mentioning that is a whole lot simpler and headache-free than first expected.
congrats simon. woot woot.
instead of thinking of ways not to get fat, what are some ways to get fat?
by the way, i run every morning, and if i cant run in the morning i run in the evening after workout.
and i workout sunday, tuesday, and thursday.. my roommate just got 2 pizzas and his girlfriend brought him a freaking cake.
have you considered that maybe the high control that your parents and the wt had on you left you feeling a little powerless and you may now be, yes, paranoid about getting fat to the point that controlling your food intake incessantly is somehow replacing the control back in your own hands?
well, thats what im beginning to think because i havent heard of any young men being this obsessed or guilt ridden over a few slices of pizza, ever. its ok. you are young and your metabolism is quick. here, have another slice.
just out of curiosity, who are you quoting there, onacruse? who says that?
i need a source, something i can work with, before answering. whatever. nevermind.
i guess because it is human nature to always be striving for the better.
the message remains the same.
reform your lives or be chastised.
from the comments i have read about god's supposed non-existence in this forum, it seems that we will only learn the hard way.
See "Florida, U.S. Gulf states brace for another hurricane"
yeah, well its not called hurricane season for nothing. lol. what bryan said.
since it is pretty clear what all of you do not believe i am wondering what you do beleive?
1) who is the creator of the universe?
3) why do we grow old and die?
Hello Ragner,
I thought i would entertain you with a response because you seem so sincere:)
1) Who is the creator of the universe?I'm not sure. And as a person who leans towards agnosticism, I'm not certain I care, just as well. If there is an almighty spirit creature, I am comfortable with the notion that I owe it nothing other than to live life in a manner that seems fit for my own being.
2) Why are we here, where are we going? We are on the third planet from the sun. Scientists have made it easy on the rest of us, naming it Earth. Where are we going? Well, we are in orbit. Circling the sun at about 30 km or 18 miles per second, in a solar system that is circling around the Milky Way galaxy. From there I suspect we continue orbiting... infinitely.
3) Why do we grow old and die?Who knows. I wish I did. But not enough to spend my life withering away anyway, in a cult some guy from Pittsburgh started up for kicks quite recently, all things considered in the relativity of time.
4) Will suffering ever end?I suspect not. But I wish for it completely. But there is also a lot of joy in the world, you know? Its not all absolute anguish. Once a person is willing to accept they do not have, nor have to have all of the answers to be content, happiness may follow naturally.
5) Would you go to war against fellow beleivers? No. and i would encourage any of my fellow American boys to move to Canada should another member of the Bush family be elected into office anytime soon.
6) What does Jesus' sacrafice mean to you?
nada. Ok, if jesus were a real person/spirit reincarnate, what have you, alive and sacrificed himself for the benefit of all mankind, well good for him. A little masochistic, but certainly noble nonetheless. I can respect that. but ultimately it means little. I am constantly opening myself to new ideas, as long as they are founded in truth. real truth, not another version of seventh day adventist bullshit if you get what I am saying. I need to see it to believe. So if jesus wants me to recognize his "sacrifice" as anything more than myth or elaborate story-telling, he needs to get up off of his lazy ass and present some hard evidence.
Hope that helps,
Chrissy
i was raised as a dub, and i suppose when i was quite young i found some of the bible stories interesting.
however, the older i got the more boring the bible seemed.
obviously, it had a lot to do with repetition.
kjv or niv are more poetic. a better read all around. but i dont plan to read the bible again. or even open the pages. never say never. but yes, i find myself wanting to nap at the very thought of it.
well john doe, not everyone has the attention capacity required to read the bible, or to, say, juggle like ten upper-level university classes at the same time. hey shouldnt you be studying btw? jk ;)
there is overwhelming evidence that the spiritual founder of the wts, c.t.
russell, was a prominent free mason in the pittsburgh community.
he went so far as to declare: "i am a free mason" in several of his lectures.
Oh. right. i guess that was the dollar bill i was thinking of. lol. i knew there was an eye at the top of some pyramid i associated w. evilness. :)

Thanks for everything Nathan. Right down to supplying a source for wax! I also found directions to the actual sight on freeminds.
Also, I read the "headstone rubbing for dummies" page so I am all set. It gives me a reason to actually look forward to visiting my old town aka dub-land, for once instead of dreading all of the old towerites I could be potentially running into.
Here it is located in the North Hills area. I am thinking its about 30 miles or so away from my fam. wow! I got this evil idea today on telling my mom to get into the car with me because we are going to the Northway mall, only guess what, we never go to the mall because I pull into the cemetery. Then I walk her to the grave and when she asks where on earth are you taking me? I would say, Oh I am here to visit an old friend, just wait and see...and I would be very interested to see her reaction after I pointed out the cross and crown emblems and see just what she thought of the gigantic pyramid that would be there staring us both down with that big freaky eye. But I wont because that is too dirty of a thing to do. But something i am considering is telling people that visiting "pastor russells" grave is on my itinerary just to see what they say. lol. It will bring awareness to it for sure.
