    Why?

    Because we can?

Because it makes us feel good about ourselves?

Because it would feel "wrong" to hoard all of our wealth (such as it is) when we can use a small part of it to help someone else who would benefit from our generosity?

Let's say that those of us who are here to make this earth a better place are better off. And karma or reaping what you sow can be a bitch.

just out of curiosity, who are you quoting there, onacruse? who says that?

i need a source, something i can work with, before answering. whatever. nevermind.

i guess because it is human nature to always be striving for the better.

we're here so that our genomes may survive in the cold, lonely reality that is life on earth. if me make "the world a better place" in the meantime, that is only of secondary importance. our genes enable us to make our world a better place not becuase they care, but because they want to survive.

that said, i am all for doing my little part to make it a better place all around for all animals. i don't care about my genes at this point.

I love my genes...they are so comfy...nice worn in old Levi's...

But, do your genes care about you?

Moral teleology ("we are here to x") and judgement (better vs. worse) were travelling with us all the way down (or up, if you will) to where we are; they were among the tools we used to make the world what it is. They are not going go leave us I guess.

Those kind of phrases, as many everyday words or things I now tend to behold with a sort of aesthetical amazement. Ugly or beautiful we are so movingly silly.

    u/d,

no reason. they don't have a choice themselves. if they were not a program for survival in the first place, then they would not exist.

it's like asking: "why is there anything instead of nothing?".

    no reason.
