if i found out i had a terminal illness and was going to die i would not tell anyone, mostly to avoid the jw see you in the new system if you are lucky nonsense and travel to someplace sunny and beautiful and die i guess. man, that is utterly depressing but at the same time seattle weather sucks in the winter and i would love to be someplace warm and sunny right now.

>_> Hmm. Curious.
by Apathy inhttp://www.heavensgate.com/misc/lastchnc.htm.
is it just a coincidence that the heaven's gate people use the same picture on their webstie as on the 'creator' book?.

probly just a co-inky. the eagle nebula is just one cosmic image used among many in cult propaganda in an effort to subconsciously impress a feeling of larger than lifeness.
lol. no, i don't really know. :o) nice observation. just out of curiosity, what leads one to the heavens gate website in the first place? i forgot all about that one. -

jesus. i'm unaware of what happened to you or your daughter one year ago but if it's anything like that story...sounds horrific. ;o(
...reminds me of a sleater-kinney song called "jumpers" about people that jump off the golden gate bridge. freaky stuff. -

I would be your friend, but your not important enough.
by free2beme ini love these type of people, because they are so easy to see through.
you know the type, they meet you and they're all nice and all, but because your not important enough they don't really want to be your friend.
in fact, they probably got introduced to you by someone who is important and to make that person happy they give you five minutes of conversation or maybe listen to a thought or two, and then they are off to the next person and your nothing.

hi free2be.
i think everyone has had some experience with these types of superficial relationships on some level and i will be bold in saying, even unknowingly, dismissed others themselves, if said people were not viewed as socially equal. but assuming we are not speaking in terms of socially equality...nevermind.
personally, i am a sraightforward person and try to give most people a fair chance. usually lots of chances. but if i conclude it just isnt happening... i guess i was born without that ability to hide emotions, which means i usually cannot even stand to look at the person, let alone humor them for five minutes in a fake conversation in which i would try to somehow convince them that what they are saying is important to me or means anything.
but i hear what you are saying...and more power to anyone who is phony but convincing. seems hard to pull off. -

Sect or cult?
by Cady inso i finally decided to get my a** to the library and read some real research on cults.
the book i'm starting with is "psychodynamic perspectives on religion, sect and cult.
in the introduction they mention margaret thaler singer's definition of a destructive cult as an organization in which:a leader claims divinity or special relationship with god.

For me, in reading Steven Hassan's Combatting Cult Mind Control and other choice books such as Kingdom of the Cults, both of which are quite in depth and good, I'm convinced that the tower is a CULT. not sure if i could be convinced otherwise. there should be more information available in regards to cult dynamics so as to not make any mistake about it...the witnesses are very dangerous people from a psychological standpoint and I wish that more people were aware that they are a CULT.
The word, cult, once made me cringe. Likely because I was once a cult-member in denial at the end of my witnoid days. Today I kind of like using the word. lately, In certain situations when it feels safe to reveal my past jw experiences, I am certain to drop this word in a few times here or there...it makes a big impact. i find that people think the witnesses are weird, certainly, but also never quite sure if they are officially worthy of cult-status.
Not sure that I told you this but we met this couple for dinner tonight that are sort of wealthy I guess, and flashy about it...and anyway, not the sort of people I would want to "hang" with normally only because they are obsessed with stuff like investment real estate and italian motorcycles and who knows what other sh%t, so my husband understands this and on the way there says..."so, you're not gonna like...tell them all about how you grew up in a cult on the wrong side of the tracks tonight, are you?" hehehee. i might be using the tower's long ago instilled fear tactics. oh no!!
but seriously...great points made from your research, cady. -

very nice, orbi. my grandpa loved metal detectors and took me on treasure hunts when i was little. we would go to the beach and he would wave the device over the sand...whenever it would beep i would help him dig up...usually a tin can. but it was loads of fun and i was always excited to be invited to tag along.
also, here is some inspiration for you and your treasure hunting...my grandpy heard a rumor of buried gold coins on an old abandon property from post-war great depression era. He searched the property and found ten of them!! it was his biggest succes. he died three years ago but those metal detecting adventures made for good memories. have fun. :o) -

FREE HEALTH CARE
by Dansk inlittlerockguy's recent post about paying for his medical care in the usa got me thinking about something i've pondered over for a while before realising you lot here probably have the answer.
because of all the treatments i've been having it has made me mightily glad i live in the uk and the bill is paid for by the national health service.
therefore, any medical treatment i receive is free.

Why are "straight women" fascinated by other women' breast?
by booker-t inthis is a non-religious question but i have always wondered why "so called" straight hetero women are always looking at or talking about another women' breast or breastsize.
you would never hear me or see me looking at or talking about another man's privates so i am curious ladies what gives.
i work with several married straight women and this is all i hear from them.

ROFL....omgosh. I had no idea either... that "straight women" were fascinated by breasts. this is total news to me. what i might notice about other women is their smile, hair, and sense of style....never the shape of their breasts!! ever. i think this is either man's fantasy that women are sitting around thinking about breasts too, or just a strange concept to me personally. but it makes me laugh at any rate. hehe.
