todays' study article stated in paragraph 6 "harmonizing the gospel accounts indicates that only after this traitor was gone did jesus institute the memorial of his death.
" paragraph 2 cited the 3 gospel accounts including luke 21:19,20 but conviently excluded verse 21 why?
because immediately after mentioning the loaf and wine jesus stated "but look!

The impressive thing about Bush is that what he says he's going to do, he does. Even whenmost people don't give him much chance for success. As for not understanding other people's culture's, etc. Maybe it's time other people understood the dominant culture on this planet.
This impresses you?
Well, it's my turn to impress you....
I am going to take a dump within the next hour. This is a pressing need that I perceive.
And you can be sure I will deliver on my word.

I'll have to throw you some extra rice for good luck now!
But I'll steam it first to make it soft:

christians who believe in the bible and the teachings of christ use that as a moral core and code of conduct.
for those who don't believe in god, where do you get your sense of moral right and wrong?
what is your moral foundation?

I think pandora, Abaddon, AlanF, gravedancer, and Xander made some good points.
Returning to Patio's comments a while back about Gandhi,
I have been reading his autobiography, The Story of My Experiments with Truth. Gandhi would freely associate with Christians, Muslims, and Hindus of many castes. He discussed religion at length with people who disagreed with his beliefs.
(RWC, check this out if atheism is not appealing to you at the moment)
I believe this was crucial to his developing compassion for all types of people.
Interestingly, he demonstrated a lack of compassion for his wife and children on several occasions. So he wasn't perfect. Plus, progressive ideas on gender equality did not abound in his era.
Still, he was far ahead of his time in many ways.

from nytimes online .
dr. asefi is an artist who, at great personal risk, had disguised the figures of human beings in 80 oil paintings at the gallery by applying a veneer of watercolor paint over them.
he had thus saved the pictures from destruction at the hands of the taliban, who had forbidden representations of the human form as sacrilege.
Teejay,
I should spend more time in front of the television and less online. Thanks for the reminder! haha ha
Seriously though, there are still plenty of quality programs on tv, as you point out. You just have to know where to look.

i was wondering about he differences between men and women.
could it be that women leave for different reasons than men?
do men tend to leave because of evidence and logic?
Tim,
You are onto something. Not that we should stereotype, but of course there are general trends.
For example, I told my ex gf 'tell your family to "bump off" if they don't like it that we are still friends'.
Well, guess what? We are not still friends. She immediately told me 'hey that's it, you've gone too far, don't talk to me anymore'.
She told me she didn't want to throw away her family. Well, that's not what I said. I simply said to stand up to them...they must accept her.
But she fears they will cut her off.
So she won't be leaving until someone or something hurts her, no doubt. She is not very responsive to logic at this point.
Again, it's not just because of her gender but of course it has played a role.

Bush enjoys THE HIGHEST approval rating of any US president in history (90%) of the US. Even liberals have changed their tune in post 9-11 and are glad that Bush is president. If Gore were president, we would all be doomed. Let's face it.
This is a non-sequitor.
The reader has not the power to evaluate this statment, so they blindly accept it.
This is the kind of mental manipulation that got Bush into office.

i've argued before in this forum that mark wanted to have jesus seem to be the messiah whose existence he believed--or pretended to believe--was prophesied, foreshadowed, or prefigured, by persons and events found in scripture, so he scoured the writings of the prophets for these stories, and adapted them to fit jesus.
i believe the striking parallels below show almost conclusively that mark's story about jesus stilling the storm was adapted from jonah, and is fictional.. in jonah, a violent storm threatens a ship on which jonah sleeps, so mark made a violent storm threaten a ship on which jesus sleeps.
in jonah, the apprehensive sailors waken jonah and question his cavalier attitude toward the danger, so mark made his boat's captain apprehensive also, and had him, too, waken jesus and question him about his seeming lack of concern.
Hey Tim,
Nice thoughts.
Why would Jesus curse a tree anyhow? Sounds like someone can't restrain his divine anger? Imagine if this were a person instead of a tree. Watch out!
It makes more sense that this was a borrowed concept, indeed.
Interesting that someone else is thinking about the bottle-gourd plant. That is such an overlooked section of Jonah, but I think it's the most important part of the parable.
