the expansion of the universe .
the expansion of the universe is the most imposing discovery of modern science.
today it is a firmly established concept and the only debate centres around the way this is taking place.
I must apologize ...
my intent was to level the playing field...not to rouse passions. But on this kind of topic it can scarcely be avoided.

Just in case no one has mentioned this already (I haven't read ALL the replies )...
Africa has the earth's most racially diverse populations. That's to be expected, actually, because it is the cradle of humanity. Humans have been inhabiting Africa longer than any where else. And it goes without saying...Africa is a very large continent with many countries, so 'African' is not a nationality or race as the Eurocentric view would see it.
By the way, did you know that Madagascar is mostly populated by Polynesians?
The people may be dark-skinned, but they are related, not to Africans on the continent, but rather to Indonesians, etc...
In this month's Scientific American, there is a great article about the evolution of skin color:
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Skin Deep (Buy at the Archive) By Nina G. Jablonski and George Chaplin Human skin color has evolved to be dark enough to prevent sunlight from destroying the nutrient folate but light enough to foster vitamin D production

His point is that the Islamic belief system is at least as sensible as the Christian belief system...
...my point, however, is that both are equally vapid.

my armageddon story.
i crouched with my family by the heavy lead-lined door.
a dozen faces around the room stared back at me, eyes wide, skin sickly in the weak fluorescent light.
Wow,
that's an amazing dream! Were you quite young at the time? That would have freaked me out
It rather reminds me of a dream I had recently...I was in a house with lots of doors and rooms and door and rooms etc...I would keep opening doors and find myself in another room. Each room was wonderful, seemingly brighter than the previous...but what I was looking for was not just a nice room but an outdoor porch or veranda.
I kept feeling a faint breeze, thinking that I had come to the last door. I wanted a breath of fresh air and sunshine. Once I thought I had reached the last door, but it turned out to be an indoor room with long shuttered windows. As I traversed this room it started to get darker.
I came to the last room, and all was darkness rather than light. There was a large pair of doors with narrow windows on either side into the adjacent room. I was about to open the doors, but a voice pushed me back as if it were a gust of air 'GO AWAY!!!!'
I still wanted to see what was inside. So I peered into the window, and saw a man sitting in the dark in a chair.
But an even more fearful voice pushed me back again. It was intriguing and spooky at the same time.

are you working on yourself or working on your ideas?
often some of those beliefs will be tied into a person's sense of self, but i think there's something to be said about being direct.
this is very hard to talk about, especially online, but the fact is when we just throw out concepts it's easier to be distant to it, and even things which may be close to our hearts are only that, things.
Intro,
I like what you are saying. If only we could take all the 'supposed to's out of life. You are right...that's what makes things difficult. There are no 'supposed to's. We are experiencing something new. Humans and life on earth have only been around so long, and things are constantly changing.
People that are dynamic and flexible don't complain about their 'lot in life'.
But then again, it is still one thing for me to say all this...another to live it wholeheartedly...I am still a reluctant participant sometimes.

over the last year i have had to fly to many destinations.
in doing so, i have memorized the flight attendant speech that begins each flight.
my favorite part is, "in the event of a water landing, your seat can be used as a floatation device.
When I got on a flight recently, I noticed that my seat cushion was improperly placed. I thought to myself, 'hey, I guess this would be a great time to check out whether this really is a floatation device'. So I picked it up. I was nice and soft and light, but...
...it had NO handles! They were gone!
'Well, that's not a problem, there is also a life vest under my seat'. So I fixed the seat cushion, sat down, and reached under my seat...
...bare metal shelf!
Good thing I already knew that I was a goner if we crashed over the ocean.
And what is the deal with the statement that 'some planes are equipped with large life rafts'? Do you guys believe that?

good points Intro,
It is quite different to see 'the world' clearly than to see clearly your place in it. And as you say, ideas are just ideas. The next step is behavior...I wish I could say everything with ideas...but I must say things with my actions.
Is this similar to what you were thinking?
