oh, btw all, check out the Discovery channel late at night. That's when they air those shows on Walking with Dinosaurs and Giant Sea Creatures and similar stuff. Fascinating! I remember someone (Joel??) mentioned these shows in a recent thread.

The coolest was this giant mammal with huge flippers front and rear that had a head 1/3 the size of its body. Can you say 'Chow Down!'? Imagine getting bitten by that sucker.

Mentality Behind JWs Requests For Zoning Variances

anyone who has done any amount of internet searching re jws knows that local congs are constantly appearing before local governments asking for zoning variances for consruction of new khs.. typically, such excerpts are not post worthy, but this apears to be an exception.. imo, this article demonstrates how jws/wts arrogantly expect authorities to kowtow to their every desire by bending and breaking rules and laws, while they maintain an attitude that noone better even think about abridging their legal rights, or they will sue their ass:.

The fossil record documents much of the whales' land-to-water transition. Determining which mammalian group gave rise to these leviathans, however, has proved difficult. Scientists agree that whales are actually highly specialized ungulates, or hoofed mammals. The question has been, to which ungulates are they most closely related? Traditionally, paleontologists have posited that whales descended from extinct hyenalike creatures called mesonychians, based on dental similarities between the two groups. But in recent years molecular biologists have put forth a different hypothesis—based on DNA from living animals—asserting that the ancestors of whales were instead artiodactyls—a group whose extant members include hippopotamuses, pigs, camels and ruminants. Furthermore, several molecular studies have concluded that whales share a common artiodactyl ancestor with hippos and are thus more closely related to these animals than to any other living artiodactyl or to a mesonychian.
Now newly found fossils from Pakistan may resolve some of the confusion.

Bethel Doctor--Is it me, or was this odd??

i was at bethel with my now ex-husband in early 1982. at that time, they did a tb test as part of the physical when you started.

mine came out positive for exposure (though i did not and have never had tb), probably because i had worked as a receptionist in a hospital x-ray department.. the weird bit is that the bethel doctor insisted on giving me a gynacological exam.

as i was only 22 at the time, and butt-stupid, i went ahead and let him.

what would be even more odd is if that were standard procedure.

i was examined 'down there' by two female doctors recently. For me, that was more comfortable than having a male doctor, and I'm a guy.

So perhaps I can relate after all

Support from the most unlikely person...

just thought i'd share this experience i had on christmas.

you could call it my first christmas gift, although my uncle surely didn't see it that way.... my jw uncle (let's call him... mike) is a very, very nice guy.

i always admired him for his charisma, youthfulness, and style.

That's not my journey anymore either.

I had a somewhat experience with my old roomate, who is now a lawyer and recently came back from Bethel. When we talked over the phone, he was not shocked at all by ANYthing I said.

I was shocked, however.

For example, I told him I thought that humans may be entirely non-autonomous, meaning that it could be impossible to prove that we are even capable of making rational decisions. Rather, we would be nothing more than products of our environment.

His response was kinda like, 'yeah, I can see your point there. perhaps that's true.' Not only was he making concessions, he also showed that he had thought about this subject in depth.

He also had some nice things to say about people in the organization doing things for 'their own reasons'. Some people, he said, 'serve Jehovah' just because it makes their hearts feel good, while others actually grasp things intellectually. He went on to comment that most people in the org lean heavily toward the former, but that's no reason to judge them.

oh wait, one more comment:

are the suppliers of her pot also connections for cocaine? That's an obvious pitfall. One of these 'friends' may offer her cocaine again. She may not be prepared for her body's response to the stimulus.
