is...
...trying to get a urine sample into a pot with a 2cm neck, when your belly is so big you cant reach round to see what you are doing...
Now, im off to collect that amber nectar for the midwife .
i watched this film last night, and it made me really really grateful that we have free health care in the uk.
i know we complain about the state of the nhs, but the bottom line is if there is ever anything wrong with me my first thought will not be 'does my insurance cover this' or 'can i afford this'.. there was one part of the film where michael moore takes some people to cuba to get free health care and one woman picks up inhalers for 5 cents a piece, that are costing her $120 in the us.
she just breaks down and crys at the disparity of the cost.. it was also telling to see the insurance companies employ people specifically to try and find ways to deny claims or to void policies where a claim has been made.
Im sure Michael Moore is not completely objective in his film making, but there are still points that he makes that are irrefutable. Like the 5c inhalers costing $120 in the US.
You have to be able to pick through the hyperbole, but on balance I cant see that insurance companies telling you to pre-authorise the use of an ambulance when you are actually unconscious is better than what happens in countries with a 'free' healthcare service (I know, I know, its paid for by taxes).
I personally know of one lady in the US who works with my dad who has had to sell her house to pay for cancer treatment because her insurance wouldnt cover it. I think that is very very sad, when someone has worked all their life and paid insurance preminums all their working life and still they are not covered at a time when they are unable to work due to illness - isnt that what insurance is for?
a list of things which $611 billion could pay for:.

obviously, 70,000 years of dicek's salary isn't a good example on how to spend it, but some of the others make you think, where did our priorities go?.
A free healthcare system for all in the US? But then why waste money on making people well when you can just kill 'em?
i was just wondering.
is there some sort of doctrine, or belief, principle, rule or whatever, that says that jehovah's witnesses, when asked, must confirm that they're jehovah's witnesses?
(one possible basis for such a rule, that comes to mind, is the bit about peter denying jesus three times before the cock crowed.).
Here they are proud to have the 'truth' and yet embarrassed to even admit who they are. I once asked a jw at my door THREE times before he would answer!
True, and yet I remember being like that myself. We felt that the message was SOOOO important and that people would 'miss out' if they knew we were JW's because their natural prejudice would kick in before they had heard this fantastic message.
If only we could get them to hear the message unencumbered from any prejudice about who we were, they would be bound to listen...
Now, I cant even answer the door if I see JW's coming round, I just cant bear to hear that claptrap I peddled for 30 years, and I have no polite way of saying no thank you. So I run upstairs shouting to the rest of the family - Jehovahs Witnesses coming to the door, you can answer it if you like, but IM NOT!
its a bit long (16 minutes) but very funny with a great story about what mormons believe.
almost makes me wish i had ever invited them in now.... http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/view/id/86.

lets say a ex-jw wants to find another religion, but still believes that only yhwh is god and only he should be adored, which religions can he turn to ?.
most, if not all, so called christian religions pray to jesus and adore him, or put jesus on the same level as jehovah..
Exactly, that would be like going through a really painful divorce and then hitching up with someone exactly like your Ex!
when you attended your last meeting ever as a dub, did you know it was your last?
did something happen which made it clear in your mind you were 'never going back' (not to be confused with nvrgnbk)?.
the last meeting we went to was the memorial in 2006. we only went because we knew we were already pegged for the elders' unwanted attention, so we had to go to keep them off our backs a little longer.
Hi Superfine!
If you havent been for about a year and your wife has stopped going also, it sounds as though the final step is more in your mind that in any action you have to take. It sounds to me like you have done an effective fade.
I suppose if you wanted closure you could go back for one final meeting. After a year away you would probably be surprised at how mad virtually every sentence made you, and it would confirm that you couldnt stomach it anymore.
Or were you wanting to make a more formal break? By sending them a Disassociation letter for instance? I found a good long fade was enough for me.
it seems to be hard when getting out of the witnesses for many to realize that nobody really knows about many things in life.
good and evil, what happens when we die.
those leaving the witnesses may see it as a big loss in not knowing, and some more than others go through a whole grieving loss process with denial, bargaining, anger, etc.
I will most certainly swat you with a copy of the Hereford Times, because I think you will find there is a rather nice picture of ME in it!!!

There is no way to count up all the possibilities in this world. That's why people feel the need to live by maxims- to make it easier
Oh agreed, people like to take an off the shelf set of beliefs because it immediately relieves them of having to think anything through for themselves.
Thinking is much harder work, and there isnt always the reward of a clear cut answer at the end. Indeed IMO many things dont have answers at all. It takes effort and an amount of sympathetic and sophisticated thinking to accept this.
Some say "You can't believe that if you're a Christian"
Seemingly I can
Ive just been reading "In Search of Christian Freedom" by Raymond Franz, and he makes the point that when Pastor Russell was first writing his publications to the Bible Students the main thing was that they COULD believe different things, and that the only thing that bound them was a beleif in Christ. In fact he said:
"We have no creed (fence) to bind us together or to keep others out of our company".
So it seems you CAN believe that after all Pubsinger!
