  dunno if you guys know about it yet.. the elders just read the letter in our hall today.

  they will be releasing audio versions of the magazines online for download.. i think the service is supposed to begin january 1st.. https://www.jw.org/index.html?option=ybtvr2.

  i have no idea what they hope to accomplish by requiring a password.

  I can see that downloading the magazines will be the new way to earn brownie points, in the same way that listening to those wretched kingdom tunes when you did the housework was in my day.

  Those quotes damning the Catholic church are very telling. They have had great mileage in the past criticising other religions for their sex abuse scandals. I remember going out on field service trying to flog front page articles in the Watchtower about how wicked the catholic church was.

  Hypocrites. I hope it all comes back to slap them hard in the face.

  in years past parents would be counseled not to bring reproach on jehovahs name by bringing police into "congregational" matters

  This is true, and even if you had not been counselled to not mention a specific subject, I know lots of JW's would feel very uncomfortable about raising anything that would 'bring reproach on jehovahs name'.

  I know this is in no way as important as the child abuse issue, but it might throw some light on the mind set - years ago when I was a JW I went for some counselling because my inability to enjoy a sex life with my JW husband was making me almost suecidal. For several weeks we discussed EVERYTHING in my life EXCEPT the fact that I was a JW (which IMO was THE causal factor). I just couldnt bring myself to mention it because I thought "what will she think of Jehovahs Witnesses if she sees one as screwed up as me. Shes bound to blame the religion and it will bring reproach on jehovahs name".

  Eventually, after a failure to resolve the problem I quit counselling, then a few years later, whaddya know, I left the religion and the problem and associated depression cleared up.

  I can fully understand how a person can rationalise even the most dire situation and not want to make jehovahs name look bad.

  currently, the story has only been rated "2.5 stars by 116 users.

  " the report will acquire greater longevity on the website if it manages to be ranked among the "most viewed," "top rated" or "most e-mailed" on the news site.

  a producer with nbc in new york called within the past hour to tell me that the segment i interviewed for (once in nashville, tn in august and once in washington, dc in october) is set to air tonight on nbc nightly news with brian williams, that is, if no huge calamity takes place to bump the feature.

  this piece will be two minutes and 45 seconds long, the longest slot nightly news has for topics of interest, and will feature a discussion about the court documents that are found on the cd i recently produced, "secrets of pedophilia in an american religion, jehovah's witnesses in crisis.

  in addition, nbc's internet site, msn, will follow with a detailed story.

  these are, rather, my subjective reflections on the material presented, the impressions i gathered while reading the legal filings, my untrained, common-man appraisal of the cases laid out in those documents.

  ill also admit to being swayed by tone of voice adopted, and to using my own common-sense yardstick in determining the reasonableness of the statements made, the responses given and the arguments put forward.

  Can you imagine the article they would print if this was the Catholic church? I remember a whole Watchtower slating catholics for duplicity years ago. They really are hypocrites of the highest order.

  "In the United States over 80,000 elders currently serve in over 12.300 congregations. During the last 100 years, only 9 elders have been sued for child abuse in eleven lawsuits filed in the United States." - WTBTS

  The whole point of the story is that the WTBTS are covering up cases so that they DONT get sued. So to then brag about how few have been sued is only a measure of how EFFECTIVE they have been at covering up cases.

  "No-one has been sued" is a totally different argument to "no crimes have been committed".

  And to say that victims are free to report cases to the authorities is disingenuous at the very least.
