60 MB Broadband (cable) Internet...do we really need it that fast?
by SnakesInTheTower inthrough work, i received a copy of a news release from the local cable company.
that cable company is headed to bankruptcy but until then business as usual.
(kinda like the illinois governor...just keeps going even though doomed).. my question is...do residential customers really need internet to be that fast?

Can a Lack of Sleep Cause Psychiatric Disorders?
by Archer inok where do i start.
last year my mother-in-law (still a witness) fell ill, she seemed at least in begining kind of ok during the day but at night would go nuts, always needing something.
my wife is the main person looking after her, i help when i can but my early rising means if i don't get enough of sleep i might as well stay at home or someone can get killed (i work at subway control centre).

No disrespect to the book, but what she needs right now is to have something that will make her sleep (for a very long time) not something that will keep her awake, unless book is so boring that will knock her off. You don't tell drowning person to in effect 'calm down and try to listen'. She looks all "weird" because that is how she feels inside and likely can't even figure for the life of her why she feels that way, quite possibly even attributing what she feels to other factors and not lack of sleep. When you are that chronically tired your mind plays havoc on you, your emotions are in turmoil playing tricks on you, your whole demeanor changes and you are at the rock bottom a very faint echo of your former self. Not to mention if a top of lack of sleep there is any other added pressure in life, like in her case, looking after demanding mother.
And those few instances where you saw her all energetic was probably her desperate attempt to gasp for the air so to speak but being that chronically tired she quickly sunk back and last thing she needs right now is to be judged on that.
Unfortunately, I think I know pretty well how she might be feeling, I've been depriving myself of sleep for some 6 months where I hardly had 5 hours a night often as little as 3, all of my own doing might I add. Funnily enough I felt like on drugs I felt "fine", I guess once you are being carried by a current you don't notice small changes (that over time acucmmulate) as to where you are, other people around you would notice. Well basically it took me hitting rock bottom and ruining something I waited a lifetime to have just like that. After that my body basically shut down and I slept 12 or more hours a "night" and then some naps during the day if I had a chance. It took couple of weeks of that just to be able to turn around and "analyze" what a hell happened to me and realize just how tired I really was and just how much that affected me.
So give her a break man, literally. When you are that tired, "a good night sleep" is not gonna cut it. If I remember this one documentary correctly, some sleep expert said you basically need to sleep almost equivalent number of hours you skipped to compensate fully, which is rather sobering thought.
I think once she gets out of it she will appreciate her sleep like never before but right now if you really love your wife you will make it possible for her to have long nights of uninterrupted sleep; and don't get fooled by her "I'm fine" attitude when she gets all energetic after a day or two. It is like taking anti-biotic for a couple of days that kill off lots of bugs then you suddenly feel fine and stop taking them, well guess what, it comes back with a vengeance. She needs her normal sleep, all of us do, its is not a "Psychiatric Disorder" a chronic lack of sleep can happen to anyone, no one is immune to that. Make it possible for her and you will probably get your wife back the way she was, do anything else and you will solidify her current condition for good.that's my 10 cents
