Rationality could be found in Scriptures!
by abiather inthough religions have done enough harm to mankind, it often has to do with the exclusive attitude most of them developed misinterpreting the scriptures.
thus scriptures were blamed for all the misdeeds of religions.
this was precipitated by certain verses in scriptures which are obviously interpolated by those with vexed interest..

Are we heading for III World War?
by abiather inthe leaders of russia, germany, france and ukraine are slated to meet in minsk (the belarusian capital) tomorrow to discuss a ukrainian peace plan!
some countries such as hollande believe there is going to be a total war.
when they met last year in the same place, they had put forward a peace plan (a ceasefire, withdrawal of artillery, prisoner exchanges and other concessions) that were never fully implemented!

Perry, you have never engaged with anyone who disagrees with you on this board, you run away and then creep out to parrot the same old nonsense time after time. If you genuinely felt that you had something worthwhile to say then you would defend your words. I feel sorry for you that the faith you proclaim so loudly has such shallow roots. You may not like what I say or indeed any of what any of the more rational members of this forum have to say but at least we have the courage of our convictions and stand by it in the face of disagreement. -

How is Genesis scientifically incorrect?
by EndofMysteries ini'll add many things in the bible i don't agree with, but the bible is a collection of books.
now to make sure i'm reading as closely to what is written in genesis, i look at this hebrew interlinear, because english translating and rearranging of words can change it.

"I pointed out the moon in the sky to my SIL about 2pm in the afternoon an ex JW and she didnt beleive it was the moon until I pointed out to her the rise and set of the moon was in our local national paper."
I wonder what she thought it was? She must have noticed it before then.

RJH,
How are you deciding that the days clearly referenced are allegorical but the other details are not?
How are you deciding that genesis 1:14 that clearly states god made the sun, moon and stars on the fourth day is allegorical.
As has already been pointed out the use of the word day in the original language is consistent with the meaning of a 24 hour day not an age or period of time. What exactly in genesis suggests that it not be read as it is written?
What is your criteria for accepting certain statements in genesis at face value and not others? It sounds to me like you are accepting the statements that confirm your existing bias.
The simple fact is that the genesis account is at odds with science regarding how the earth formed (long after the stars and long after the sun) which would suggest that the entire genesis passage is at best allegorical in it's entirety.

Given the plethora of threads on this forum devoted to other topics perhaps you could try posting on one that does interest you then. Heaven forbid that other people should have different interests to you!

"Take, for example, the following statement in the brochure Was Life Created? about spider silk being one of the strongest materials on earth: “If enlarged to the size of a football field, a web of dragline silk 0.4 inch thick with strands 1.6 inches apart could stop a jumbo jet in flight!” Although the source for this statement was a reputable science magazine, it was not the original source, and the original source was ambiguous. Therefore, it became necessary to contact the researcher who made the original statement and check how hereached this conclusion. Our researchers also had to find the formula and the information needed to calculate for themselves what impact a jumbo jet might have on a spiderweb the size of a football field. Many hours of research and meticulous calculations eventually confirmed the accuracy of this astounding piece of information."
I don't believe this for a second. I don't remember my engineering textbooks having any formula for calculating the strength of football field sized spider-webs. Presumably they have a couple of chartered engineers hanging around for just such a question?!

Did Polonius kill his wife? A problem with apolegetics
by bohm ina basic problem with christian apologetics when applied to the bible is that it relies on the tacit assumption you can draw reliable conclusions on the material.
the most common form of apologetics start out by certain claims (the tomb was found empty, the disciples had post-crusifiction experiences of jesus that transformed their lives, etc.
this is hearsay since the person who made the statement cannot be sworn in.

Honesty,
You are correct I do not have to fear any of those things because I live in a largely secular country where atheism is not persecuted. Even in my country however we still have to fight to stop religious people from imposing their beliefs on those of us that don't share them. Beliefs that you cannot provide any evidence for.

Honesty,
The problem is that it is you who is making the claim that jesus was a real person and was resurrected, the burden of proof is on you. I am not making any claim about jesus merely stating that I have seen no evidence to convince me he was real or that he was resurrected.
The problem with your claim about Tacitus is that Tacitus was a meticulous historian and yet he only refers to the title christus not to jesus. His reference is only in relation to giving details of the source of the term Christian. His reference to Pontius Pilate also uses the wrong title for Pontius Pilate he wasn't procurator. The fact that a well respected Roman historian has the correct dates for events pertaining to the Roman empire should be of no surprise. What is a surprise is that he didn't know the name Jesus and didn't know Pontius Pilate's title. Perhaps his source for this small anecdote wasn't very reliable. Either way hardly conclusive evidence for jesus and zero evidence that jesus was resurrected.
