Another Warning From God

reform your lives or be chastised.
from the comments i have read about god's supposed non-existence in this forum, it seems that we will only learn the hard way.

kenneson, I would think that a lot of people on here may disagree with you but those same people would also defend your right to spout fundy nonsense all over the place, but your god is incapable of showing the same tolerance? it seems ridiculous to suggest that your god, a supposedly loving omnipotent creator is less emotionally capable than the people he created? If I can understand that sometimes I am less perfect in my communication why can't He?

"What proof do you have that the rates have always been constant? How much of the various dating methods are dependent on a presupposed figure of millions or billions of years?"
Well because the rates can be measured. Your "presupposed figure" is calculated by measuring the rate of decay.
There is no evidence to suggest that decay rates change in the isotopes used for geological dating. Before you bring it up you can change the rates of decay in some isotopes (but not by much, around 1%) but these isotopes aren't used in geological dating.
You have to also remember that a strictly scientific methodology is applied as well to increase the accuracy of the results, more than one isotope is used in the tests to ensure the answers are consistant. -

From a true American patriot
by Simon inpeople have made claims that i am anti-american for expressing dissatisfaction about american foreign policy or dismay at the ills of american socity.. to be honest, i do not think i am anti-american.
i think i am more pro american than many of the people in the country who like to wave flags and buy t-shirts but who seem happy to turn a blind eye when things are not right and happy to see it's ideals sold to the highest bidder.
imo the true patriots are those who are willing to stand up and take the flak for saying "this isn't good enough, we demand better".

I think the way in which any criticism of America is jumped on by some Americans is rather reminiscent of the way my step-dad used to jump on anything I used to say as a kid about 'the truth'.
At the end of the day America has a lot to say about the running of other countries so it's citizens should be little surprised that their over-reaching power is of very immediate concern to the citizens of those other countries. After all isn't freedom of speech one of the founding principles of the constitution of the United States?

EX JWs - What planted the seed in your mind?
by jstalin ini'm interested in finding out what planted the seed in your mind that got you started on questioning the watchtower.
what issue, event, or idea started you on the path to rejecting the watchtower?
and while we're at it, what event was the straw that broke the camel's back, that pushed you over the edge to finally quitting the organization?

I was about six when I started to have doubts about what I was being taught (It just didn't add up in my mind).
Things started to become clearer as I realised that the things people say don't match what they do. The first thing that happened was realising that my mother had divorced my dad (a non witness) so that she could be married to a 'fine' 'upstanding' dub (in the real world a gambling, violent drunkard with no financial sense - it was 1974 what can I say! )
Then when I realised that nobody gave a sh*t that my stepdad was not living up to the dub ideal as long as he was 'trying'
Next my sister was married off to a violent, bullying pervert with all the social graces of a particularly flatulent and halitosis-ridden hippo, and guess what?! "well he is trying"
Then we started having a tuesday night meeting at a house in a neighbouring town where the children (who all looked like second world war refugees, obviously you can imagine how bad they were when even the other witness kids thought they looked wierd!) were too scared to even talk to other witness children.
Obviously I was starting to realise that logical debate was a no-no and that asking questions about my doubts was more likely to result in a beating than a reasoned reply so by age 7 or 8 I was practically silent on my real thoughts regarding 'The Truth'
I then started at secondary school and I remember coming home and very excitedly telling my mum that I had decided I wanted to go to University (planning ahead you see) and being absolutely crushed when she looked at me with utter scorn and said "No you're not, you're going to be a window cleaner". Although I haven't cleaned a window since I must admit it did mean that I never really bothered at school.
The real clincher was when a (witness)friend of mine killed himself, and I have never heard a more arrogant, hypocritical, hatefull, uncaring, callous, coldblooded, heartless pack of animals in all my life. The guy had put his head on a railway track and not one witness had the nerve to be even slightly honest about his (well-known) reasons for doing so.
In the many years years since the dubs have continued to attempt to destroy the remains of my family and never once have I seen even one shred of humanity in the dubs that I have met let alone any trace of 'Jehovah's loving kindness'

"this vision aims to return humans to the moon, and then to use it as a staging point for a manned mission to mars.
i wonder if jws will be required to canvas those areas too.

Hamsterbait, the moon is 238,000 miles away (http://starryskies.com/The_sky/events/lunar-2003/eclipse8.html) those aren't the kind of stats you want on a strategic military base, Low earth orbit? now you're talking. "I say we take off and nuke 'em from orbit, it's the only way to be sure"

Russell got Pyramid measurements from a drawing??!!
by VM44 ini seem to recall reading something that ct russell obtained his pyramid measurements from a drawing of a pyramid using calipers and rulers!!!!!.
now that really wouldn't give the accuracy in values required for prophetic calculations.
by taking measurements from a diagram, one could come up with any numbers one wanted in order to "massage" a calculation to give predetermined end year for a prophecy.. in one of russell's books, the pyramid dimensional measurements were "stretched" (or "shrunked" perhaps) from one edition to another in order to make the calculations come out the desired way.

"This really is crazy stuff. Anyone with half a brain realises that a diagram on a sheet of paper simply doesn't have the resolution to resolve the exact size of the original structure. If we were to generously assume that the approximately 87m measurement of the structure was scaled down to about 17cm on paper at a scale of approx 1:500, then each millimetre on paper is equivalent to about 50cm (about 20 inches) on the actual structure. To measure the original structure to the exact inch, you would need to measure a 17cm measurement on the diagram to the nearest twentieth of a millimetre, which would very likely be smaller than the dot pitch of the diagram."
Absolutely, even using professional cad (drawing) packages you dont scale from a drawing like that. It would be interesting to find out how they took the measurements onsite as well since I doubt it was done in any accurate manner. Still I don't suppose it matters when you're making it up as you go along.
