Have you noticed that disfellowshipped Witnesses are treated differantly?
by isnrblog inmy family does not speak to me.
i have no problem with that as they are pains in the ass.
but during my tenure as a jw, i noticed that differant families would treat their df'd members differantly, even if they didn't live in the same household, often inviting them over for dinner, etc.

Wow, tijkmo, what I can say is something my dad would always tell me, when you are at the bottom, there is only one way you can go.
I would thumb my nose at the world, become like Caine in Kung Fu and walk the earth and transform myself into whomever I wanted. Come back in ten years and laugh in their faces.

Oh don't get me started on this, religion should NEVER EVER get in the way of family. Ever.
The inconsistency is that people can't turn their backs on their blood, their bonds, just because of a mistake in their life or a difference in ideology, it's totally unnatural.
The few family members that don't associate with me now, are ones I wasn't close to anyway, so it's not missed.

Yes, I am going to go with women that do not take proper care of themselves down there. I remember riding in the car with an older JW sister going out in field service and she creeked her leg open to get out of the car and it HAD TO BE the worst smell I have experienced in my life. I swear flew out that thing.
Weed has an awful smell.
Dead animals.
Fish cooked in the microwave.

Who did you/do you want to be when you grew up?
by Crumpet inwhen i was 9 i wanted to be daisy duke from the dukes of hazzard, but had to put aside the dream when i realised my legs weren't going to ever get any longer.. when i was 12 i wanted to be ghandi, but realised wars wouldnt stop because i missed breakfast.. when i was 16 i decided that by leaving the borg and living fast and hard enough being alice cooper was achievable.. now i'm 32 i think i'd quite like to have the sensuous, striking confidence and certainty of helen mirren when i grow up.. who did you want to be and why?.

When I was a little little girl, I wanted to be a grandma, because to me my grandma was the greatest person in the world. I adored her.
After being "programmed" I decided I wanted to be a missionary and go where the need was great.
After I saw my father rebel and go to college for undergrad and graduate school, I first decided I wanted to be a nurse. Actually that's what everyone told me, although they said this would not be needed in the "new system" since there would be no sickness. Uh, yeah right.
Started college and realized I actually liked learning about human behavior and I loved writing. So those are the two things I studied, as well as law. I have enjoyed every minute of it.
But honestly, that's all academic.
What I truly wanted when I grew up was to be happy and to be free, to see the world and create my own path. To me, growing up was about finally being in the driver's seat and I feel blessed on that account.

Big props to this thread. I have always admired and respected Dr. King.
I admire any man or woman that challenges the laws of acceptability and forces people to consider humanity on a whole.
He changed the very fabric of the US and the ripple affects were felt through out the world.

One thing I would NOT do is use the JW verbiage. Implying good or bad or anything of the like would confuse them and cause turmoil unnecessarily.
I would speak very honestly, short and to the point. "Grandma is in a religion where because we don't believe what she does, she can only love us from afar, but we wish her well and we will love her from afar, as well."
When she gets older and can cognitively handle it, be honest to the point and just love and encourage your children to be free and happy in their own lives regardless of religious views.

Most hated Rules and Regulations
by Bendrr inthe thread about "clinking" got me to thinking.. what were the rules you hated most?
rules that were just so boneheaded as to be infuriating.. there are so many rules and regulations to follow as a dub.
some rules may not even be able to be referenced in the publications, at least not firmly and clearly.

Ear piercings.
Hair braiding.
Shorts and pants. (Although we rebelled and did it anyway).
MUSIC! (I have to say that I don't want anyone on a platform telling me a genre of music I could or couldn't listen to, ridiculous).
Who I could befriend and talk to.
Masturbation.
Getting a higher education.
