Good question, but no, because these religious cults would argue that it is someone's choice.

What type of person are you attracted to now?
by Layla33 ini was just thinking about this the other day, about how my ideas of a romantic partner have changed since being a jw.. growing up, i thought i would marry a very upstanding jw, we would pioneer together, do missionary work, have children, see the world.
(never had any thoughts about bethel, though.
) so what it boiled down to was a stepford husband, up tight, not the least bit sexual, closed minded bore.. so now that i have grown up, seen the world, been married (and actually picked a good man the first time, although it didn't work out), i just contrast that with what i am attracted to now.. i like them open minded, earthy, i love artistic types because i am a published writer, hair doesn't matter to me (long/short, bald, etc), challenges convention, very sexual, still like a traveling man.. i am just curious if you anyone else can compare and contrast how their ideas have changed since breaking out the group-think of the jw organization..

I just want to tell you that is about the best allegory about the spiritual realm and man made religion I have ever read, especially regarding JW organization.
Bravo!
I wish people would stop believing that imperfect men can think for a spiritual entity that has no interest in the common ridiculous ideologies they possess.

Pray silently?!? What the heck is this about?
by A-Team ini was just reading memphisbelle's account, and she mentions that the wt says that one is suppose to pray silently so satan wouldn't be able to mess up god's plans.
um, correct me if i am wrong, since i have never been, or will never be a jw....but what the heck kind of logic is this?!?
(especially if you read what the bible says about prayer.

I was raised a JW my entire life as well, as well as family members very prominent in the cult and I have heard it over and over again. I recall at least two talks, one at a convention where it was explicitly repeated more than once. Trust me, this is not something that was made up, even as silly as it sounds.

So much to say, so little time.
- Repeating the Jehovah name so much, when it is wrong, wrong, wrong.
- Letting some group of men, somewhere far away control every aspect of their thoughts, how they live their lives and who they talk to.
- That ol' 1914 date and the end of world bell ring. Come on, you haven't gotten it right so far, enough already.
- The demon obsession is one for the books. Want to scare a JW, give them a book and tell them you think it has demons. Yeah, it's just that easy.
- Those monotone singing, you give Lawrence Welk a run for his money (no offense, but even in the Bible, they had a little spirit). I am telling you Jesus would have walked after a month of that bland structured nonsense.
- Who decided the "hours" and the "time" necessary in the "field service" in order to be in good standing? And why does anyone even believe that crock anymore?
- The fact that these people still don't get that they are basically salesmen for a Watchtower Corporation and everything else is just secondary. See point before this one.
I could go on, but that's all for now.

Wow, I can still remember that one although I hadn't thought about that one in a long time. More illogical nonsense to confuse people. That's all.

this never would've happened if we were still "in"
by chickpea inmy 14 yo daughter will be performing a solo in her high school's winter pops concert.... featuring the choirs and bands as well as individual talent..... she wrote music and lyrics, a sweet melody on the piano.....there are a few bands at the local "punk shows" that do a cover and when her papa and i first heard it we thought>>> d@mn, that even sounds good distorted!.
note: none of the mentioned "friends" are from the cong, where she was brutalized by the "it" girls as she has had weight issues since being on steroids for asthma when she was younger.
14 hour day.

Beautiful! I am always so happy when ex JWs had the courage to let their children live without fear and guilt.

To Hire a JW Could Mean ...
by compound complex ingood morning:.
if an old thread regarding dr. brenda upton v. the wtb&ts had not been bumped up, i would never have come across this horrific but spellbinding information.

I agree with everything here and the JW people I know that are hard working, leave the JW stuff at home and do what needs to be done in order to survive. Oh and by the way, they are the more educated ones, who actually went to college and educated themselves regardless.

The Father of the Watchtower Society
by Honesty indo you think jehovah is the father of the watchtower society?
-
Layla33
The Watchtower Society is a CORPORATION, it is run like a third world country with the elite on top taking advantage of all its loyal citizens who can only hold on to the promise of a better life in a generation they will probably never see.
The father of the Watchtower corporation is the head of the board. End of story.
