she has an amazing voice.
you have to hear it for yourself.
and while you're listening, check out the book case behind her.

some of you might remember my story from years ago - how i became an 'apostate' which effectively ended my marriage of 20 years.
how my wife subjected me to intense psychological abuse when i left 'the truth'.. my son ben, whom i love deeply, left when he was dragged into the back room and told he was being used by satan to corrupt the congregation (he was only15) because he was gay.. my dearest middle daughter charlotte, who has more common sense than all of us put together, 'left' on her 14th birthday.
she was dragged out of the house in her bare feet to be taken to the meeting, and because i intervened i spent the next year on a camp bed in the front room.. in the end, i could not stand the abuse and left.
I am sorry for the pain that you and your loved ones are going through right now. I am concerned about your kids more than their mom at this point-any that still live with her. Is she a safe person for them to be living with? Have you talked to her about whether she wants apostate children living in her home? Between her depression and the way that JWs treat DF or opposers in the family, your child(ren) may be in danger of physical or emotional abuse-hardcore. In your compassion for the woman, please remember that those children have this mom that THEY think is suicidal. Not a safe or stable place for a 14 yo to be, for sure.
I wish you all well, you might want to insist on counseling for her if she wishes to retain custody.

hi.. after lurking for a number of months i have decided to join in and hopefully connect with a few people who will know what it has been like to grow up as me.
i left the truth a number of years ago for two reasons, one of which was my sexuality, which i knew to be unacceptable to my brothers and sisters.
since then i have alone in my isolation, hopefully through this site i can rectify that.
THere is a church here in the states that I think is called the "metropolitan church" that is very gay friendly (if not oriented) and might have people with more of a thoughtful outlook on life than you might find in clubs. Or Universal Unitarian = in Britan. There may be some group that has more of your mindset. You know you aren't the only one like you! Blessings to you, and take care of yourself!

do you hate jehovah's witnesses?
since becoming a member of this board, it has often come.

He said" no - I try not to hate people - but I hate the religion. Just like I quite like many muslims, but I truly believe the religion is evil incarnate and I will go to my grave believing that."
mine's a toss-up.

We had the TNT chicken tonite for dinner. It was SO yummy that we are having it again tomorrow! (Am considering it for crowd food) For future ref-does the sour cream go in at the first or the last on the stovetop version? Recipe said to add it 2x. Which I didn't notice till later, when I thought I should have added it. It tasted great, so I am not worried about it:) I had to tweak it a little since I didn't have exact things, but dried onions and beef boullion, and store tomatoes and chiles were great. My DD wants me to add olives to it-because it wasn't decadent enough with the sour cream. YUM. Thanks for the recipe.
i get a phone call last friday telling me there was a note pinned to the door of my old house (deserted and up for sale) saying to contact this person asap because i am an heir to something or other.. eventually, i get around to it this morning; i make the call.. it seems xto energy corporation is looking for me because i'm an heir to my great grandmother's mineral rights to a 4 acre strip of land in burleson texas.
the land is wanted for drilling purposes by the oil and gas drilling exploration team.. i met with the agent this morning.
he showed me my great grandmother's obituary and his copy of the family tree.
Good for you Terry. Its like winning Lotto w/o buying the dang tickets. My great grandpa sold property worth BIG BUCKS in the mid 20's and came out west to Montana or Idaho to mine for something (silver or gold) and lost his shirt. Figured out why my gramma was so bitter, raised a spoiled little girl and having it all pulled out from her and waitressing for railroad guys at the age of 15 or so! Glad to know some cinderella stories still happen! I'm happy for you if all this is on the up and up. Take care, and don't spend it all in one place. Unless I am the place:)

Ben, I hope you don't think because you are gay that you must get caught up in the 'gay scene', and more than a single person must get caught up in the 'single scene'. There are lifestyle choices in the gay world, just as there are in the heterosexual world. The WT teachings would leave one to believe that everyone who leaves is some hedonist that attends orgies and shoots drugs all the time. (remember the pictures in the magazines?) Leaving the org. doesn't mean that you have to embrace things that are not you. And being gay doesn't mean being a stereotype either. Many people who have more balance in their lives than most JWs do are aware of that. The gay world has (as you have likely been noticing) a lot of levels. Don't choose one that is uncomfortable to you. You don't have to be around others who make you uncomfortable. I have some gay friends who grew up in it and changed a LOT from when we were teenagers until now-our 40's. A lot of that change was just in realizing that gay people are as individual in their likes, loves and preferences as anyone else. Your basic morals do not need to be compromised. Morals are NOT about who you have sex with.
I am sorry for all the alone-ness you are experiencing. I hope you can find some real world connections that are important to you and that will care about you. There are lots of us all over the world, so I am sure you can find a group of ex-JWs near you, as well as some online here that you can get to know possibly. We will be here for you!
Welcome! I hope you find a nice place here.

Dates filled with cream cheese that has a bit of orange concentrate and/or vanilla. YUM, not my favorite, but the date thing reminded me. I will bring those to the family gathering.
Ok, my sis once had a recipe for a sweet potato casserole that had marshmallows mixed in, with a pecan topping. Looked grownup, really was more dessert like, but supposed to go on the table with the turkey. I can't find it anymore. Do any of you all have a similar recipe?
And what is suet? Any substitution for it? Would love to try the pasties and will be making the TNT chicken tonite. It sounds like something my family would totally love. Except for my 6 year old. Thats what we keep the easy mac around for-so we can eat some nice dinners w/o getting grief for the whole meal (that's me, choosing my battles!)

I like her. She is probably so mortified. I am sure she is over her somewhat ungracious surprise. Good for Carrie Underwood, she is a very talented woman.
i have been disfellowshipped for 8 years now.
since then my family wanted nothing to do with me.
now that i have a child (a 6 mth old baby boy) my parents want to know about me again.
What they are doing now is what a natural grandparent/parent would do. Their heart has over-ruled their religion(at least briefly). I think you gently need to lay down ground rules-its all of you, never just the baby, no kingdom speak, and if they are offered a gift by the child(for any reason), they will graciously accept it. You will nicely explain to child why they do not give gifts at holidays, but you will not restrain her in any way from her natural exuberance or happiness about Santa, her birthday or anything else, and they will not reprimand her or correct her, or use it as an indoctrination moment. Their actions have proven that they will follow the rules, and that they are breaking them now is likely temporary. Don't let them start unless they promise to behave. Normally I wouldn't put rules on GPs like that, but JW GPs who reject YOU for years aren't THAT normal. You have to deal with the folks you got. Your rules may be different, but you need to know how much of the crap you are willing to put up with, and they need to know what you WON'T put up with, IMO. Good luck, congratulations on your little one.
