Jeff, I wanted to let you know how much I am still thinking of your family and hope for all the best for you all. I know what a burden on your hearts that all of this is. Not to mention your wallets, your patience and your sanity:) My heart is with you.

Neighbors Are Newly Re-activated JW's
by White Dove ini'm wondering what the stats are on re-activated jw's staying in or leaving the second time around.
i left twice for a couple of months the first time and a year the second time, but finally left for good the third time.. i just found out that my neighbors are jw's but have been out for a while.
the jw's in our area just came by and re-activated them.

My aunt just started going again. We just had this surreal conv. the other day where she told me she was now re-instated, well, not really re-instated, because she had never been disfellowshipped. She went on to say how we both KNEW she really WAS disfellowshipped, even if the congregation didn't do it(???). Well, she did, while involved with the JWs, get into drinking, drugs and god knows what else, and took nearly 30 years to get her life back on track. And so the first thing she thinks she needs to do is re hook up with the JWs. Apparently she wasn't paying attention to the fact that it was while involved with them that she lost her husband, kids and entire life. Ugh. Now she got her NEW(3rd) husband, a perfectly nice guy, involved with them. I wanted to puke the other day at her home when she started giving the "I'm now a JW and I won't be doing Christmas, but you know that a gift from someone who loves you and wants to give you a gift means a lot more than one they have to give you at a holiday. . . " speech to her baffled son in law. She means well and she is trying so hard, and I am so glad she got out of the life she was in-but I am pretty certain that after getting her life in order, she will fall prey to the misery of JWism all over again and go back to substance abuse. The thing is, she got out of that lifestyle because SHE wanted to, not because of the good influence of the JWs. Now she is going to push away all her kids who are not interested in it. I could see it starting at the family gathering.
Anyway, I wanted to yell-I don't give gifts to anyone if I don't want to! And I have always felt free to give gifts whenever I darn well please! Who the heck are you(and every JW!) to questioning the motivations of me or any other gift giver?

IRAN-Deja vu all over again?
by JWdaughter inany of the rhetoric, demands, conciliation, etc., etc., remind you of anything?
wasn't this all how this war started in iraq?
(or the justification for it, anyway?

All this is hitting a lot closer to home for me these days-literally. I am moving to the persian gulf in 2 weeks:) Wish that something I had read here was more reassuring, but the fact that these games have been played for my entire life lends some balance to the rhetoric of it all. Still, kinda weird when you are reading this news to consider how likely they are to hit your new home town if they get pissy;)

Is the WTS compromising its stand towards preaching? Our kingdom Ministry 2009, Question Box
by LUKEWARM inon page 3 the question box asks: what should you do if directed to stop preaching?.
the answer?
"in some instances, police have approached publishers who were sharing in some form of the ministry, informed them that they were violating the law, and directed them to stop.

They aren't told to stop preaching, just stop preaching where they will have to face consequences. They are also told to take the officers info and report it to the branch. Which probably means they(branch lawyers) will file suit if they think they can push it.
I am moving to a place where evangelizing is illegal altogether. Somehow, I doubt I will find any JWs knocking on my door in Qatar. Because when push comes to shove, they are less about preaching the good news than they are about patting themselves on the back about it. The org. will fight the local townships, but an absolute monarchy? Hmm. Not so much.

unbaptised JWs can get reproved and disciplined as much as baptised ones can. I was DA'd as an UB publisher. I have seen friends reproved while unbaptised.

So, Was Your Life RUINED Because You Were A JW?
by minimus inthe fact that you were a witness, did it actually "ruin" your life?
?.

JWdaughter
NO! It gave me a different perspective, but overall, I'm thinking my life is good and for all the issues I have had with my mom, she was mostly a great mom, and I learned some good things in the hall and knew some lovely people. Wish I could take out all the icky/ugly/sad parts that involved the WT, but we all have those kind of parts of our life even without any WT association. All of my life until now led me TO now. Now is a good place, with good people, a lovely home, and an exciting prospect for my future-and without many of those things, I am alive and have hope. Nothing can take more of me than I allow. I certainly am NOT going to let a two bit charleton's religion 'ruin my life'. My life is too big to be ruined by one stupid corporation in NYC.

I like Serena. She has a rude mouth on her, but she is successful, beautiful and gets away with a lot more than I ever could. More power to her. We don't know what kind of reproof she may yet get, but they are going to have quite a time keeping up with her demerits:)
What do they say? Obedient women are never found in history books. Or something like that.
She is gorgeous and if I looked like that, I'd probably show it off, too. I am fully convinced that my modesty is precipitated by my odd shape:)

Are you scared to watch the news?
by wantstoleave ini'm a newbie as far as delving into information other than wt based, and have only just started posting on this board...so maybe the following thought will be old hat to some of you, not a concern or perhaps something you occasionally think about.
but, are you scared to watch the news?
purely for the fact of seeing things go on in the world that would prompt you to think about your jw upbringing?
-
JWdaughter
I am NOT afraid to watch the news, in fact, I am moving to the middle east where a lot of it starts these days.Fun to see how the JWs in my life respond to it, though.

Jeff, none of her years have been or will be, productive. The children are better off without hearing from or knowing of her.
This has happened in my family, a cousin who messed with people's lives until she finally dropped out of sight altogether about 20 years ago-after making nutso accusations regarding me, an uncle, various friends and every 'official' she could defame. It isn't you, and probably not even her birth parents-some people are just born wrong. Some have physical issues, hers is worse-it is character and mental. I know because of how close I am to her parents and her siblings and I have seen the swath of destruction she left in her path. Your daughter is your heartbreak, I'm sorry this is happening. She might be lucky to MAKE it to 40 at all. I hope you are able to continue to bless those children. If you haven't had parental rights removed, now might be the time.

Do you think Elizabeth Smart made stuff up about the alleged 'prophet' who kidnapped her? Do you think that everyone who is victimized by a group and later 'exposes' it is lying simply because they are no longer welcome among that group? Every whistleblower has their motivations questioned. JWs whistleblowers do not merely have theirs questioned, but they are flat out declared to be liars because they are no longer in the congregation. Must be lying, right?
Ever occur to you that where there is smoke there is usually fire? The WT looks like a giant 4th July smokebomb.
