We had more than a few of those in my congregation, both disability and welfare cases. We also had a gentleman who was disabled, had six kids and worked all kinds of side jobs(cause he couldn't get a real one, for real) and had some partial assistance. He was actually in a wheelchair and accepted less 'assistance' than many who were entirely mobile. His wife worked part time (had little tiny kids) and they did ok for themselves with mostly the work he was able to get and the medical assistance, but were never rich. It annoyed me to see the one whose husband was on the stand talking about how the system was there for us to use if we 'needed' it, when you know good and well that his wife did not need it. gag me.

Did you know anyone on disability who pioneered?
by lepermessiah inanother thread got me thinking about this:.
in the area i live in, its not uncommon for people to be "ill" enough not to be able to hold a job, but they still regular pioneer.. when i was younger, someone tried to hook me up with this girl.. i called her and we chatted for a while.
i asked her what she did for work - "oh, well i am a pioneer".

Hey, Yemen is working on this-and since they are close to me in Qatar, I hope to hell they(we/US) don't go pre-emptively striking them. That country has enough problems, and they are not located where most of the people live, but in the hinterland.

Lukemia Witness dies due to lack of blood.....the horrific sad story.
by Witness 007 inthe nicest 41 year old brother i have ever met in my life, kind and helpful to all, goes for a routine blood test and finds he has lukemia.
everyone was in shock, he of course refused all blood products advised by doctors.
his blood cell count dropped dramatically and he began to suffer alot.

I'm sorry for your loss.
This happened to a cousin of mine who was a tiny boy at the time. Only his parents made that decision for him. Eventually the state stepped in, but it was too late. Incidentally, having watched several loved ones suffere through cancer and lingering for months/years, going fast doesn't seem the worst thing from my perspective. Be glad that his suffering wasn't long lasting, if there is nothing else good come out of it. Problem is that you are measuring THAT with the fact that had he been treated, he may have overcome it. Not knowing is painful.

Good Watchtower Study today
by slimboyfat ini am glad we went to the meeting this morning.
it was about how jehovah's witnesses have always taught the paradise earth for most of obedient mankind.
it mentioned how early christian leaders such as origen and augustine introduced neo-platonic thought into early christianity and allowed ideas about an immortal soul to crowd out what the bible says about the earth.

Man, you mostly sounded like a bunch of dubs after the meeting. Gag me!

christmas in the Arabian Peninsula?
by JWdaughter inanyone ever spent christmas in an arab country?
moving there in 2 weeks and wondering what i might expect at christmas time.
moving to a large, modern city in a country that has a liberal application of sharia law.

Heck, if you can have Christmas in Saudi, you can sure have it where I am moving. I knew that we 'could' wasn't sure if anyone did.
Was it huge in the compound or whatever-like here? Or was it subdued? The is really what I was wondering. I know there is a freedom to observe, but I was wondering if it was as commerical or if it was more of a religious celebration?

All right, do JW's REALLY do not marry outside of their faith?
by dgp ini've been a lurker in this site for some time.
i am not a jehovah's witness, but was here because i wanted to know more about the organization, since i am in love with a jw woman.
she recently rejected me, on the grounds that "she would not risk her relationship with jehovah for someone who would die in (snap fingers)".

JW's are discouraged from marrying non-JWs, but they will not be DF'd. A JW man will probably not get to be a MS or Elder unless he jumps through some serious hoops, but they will not be removed from the congregation. They will be annoying to be married to, though.
My mom -who is a JW- 'toyed' with some poor guy she worked with and was attracted to, but ultimately decided that he wouldn't do because of reasons that had to do with his morals, not his religion. (And I supported her decision, he really liked her, but he had a former girlfriend who was still living with him!) But she did consider a relationship with him-and had been married to a non JW for over 30years-which was a good relationship for her. She married him when she 'knew' the 'truth' but wasn't committed to it.

How would you respond (RESPECTFULLY)?
by AwSnap inif a witness brought up the example of lazarus, how jesus said he was "asleep" (which really meant dead)....and then he resurrected him and more people than ever had faith in jesus.. as part of the argument that most don't go to heaven when they die, suppose a jw said "most people believe we go live it up in heaven when we die.
but wouldn't that be cruel on god's part to let lazarus' soul come to heaven and then have jesus bring him back to the crummy earth?
how would you respond to that?.
-
JWdaughter
I haven't read all the responses, but I would say that our hope in the resurrection lies with JESUS's resurrection, not Lazarus's resurrection! If Lazarus was not raised our faith is in vain. . . NOT. Jesus ascended to heaven and never died again. Lazarus died again.

MY BROTHER-IN-LAW HAS DIED
by Mary inthis is one post i had always hoped i would never have to do, but after a long and brave battle, my beloved brother in law has died.
i have done a couple of threads on this in the past, so many of you know the battles he was facing.
he had been diagnosed earlier this year with myelodysplastic syndrome and the mortality rate of this disease is quite high.
