I have been blessed in the states with very good healthcare for the most part-most of my waiting type inconveniences have been minor-and usually for good reason (OB gyn's get leeway). I lived in a foreign country that just told you to show up on tuesday(for example). Everyone showed up first thing-before 9am and got in line. They did have a tea boy/girl and AC so it could have been worse. . . but a two hour wait was expected and we would never make plans for more than one appt a day. EVER. The worst part was the parking-because, rather than 2000 people cycling throughout the day, they all showed up at pretty much the same time. But even in the ME, they can learn. I understand that the national health care programme in that country now has real appointments, so I am glad that all the suggestion cards that I wrote were finally listened to (and yes, I wrote a LOT of them). I will say though that I had a tummy tuck (circumferential) and 10 days stay for less than $1500 dollars. I also had the best nursing care of MY LIFE.
I think that writing the doctors a personal note in appreciation for their actual care/work on you is good (if it WAS good) and letting them know that the administration, whether of their own staff or the hospital admin-is BAAD and reflects poorly on the otherwise excellent care would be an effective way to make the point. It may seen obvious, but not everyone higher up may know of mistakes or software issues or personnel issues that are happening. Let them know when your blood pressure has returned to normal and your face is no longer red:) Most admins want to be known for excellence-so help them get more excellent.

We had the "do you speak spanish" and "Which of your neighbors are hispanic" questions twice this month. I live in Houston in a diverse neighborhood. What bothers me is that they spoke English perfectly and no one tried to talk to me. Is the "good news" these days only for hispanics or what? Iwas alreay to get into something with them and they just left so quick I couldn't say anything (my husband answered the first time). I think that is a flippy way of doing business! I live in an apartment complex where there are many hispanic families, but everyone I meet speaks English beautifully anyway. We live in a good area and people here are employed and mostly families. Not one that I know of 'needs' a bilingual minister.

Sweetie, don't go to that meeting. It won't help anything. Keep in regular contact with your folks, ignore their coldness and betheir daughter. If they refuse to receive you, that is their problem, but don't shun them in your happiness at being away from the Borg-then they get to talk about their daughter who left Jehovah AND abandoned them. Don't let them tell themselves that you selfishly abandoned them in their old age because they are in the BORG-because that is the mentality they will pick up-they will be the victims if you act the sad, hesitant to contact them kind of apostate/faded former JW. Don't be ashamed of yourself for leaving the BORG. Don't deny yourself your family because they would (somewhat, even) deny you. Ignore any shunning activity asif you are oblivious to their game.
BUT DON'T GO TO THE MEETINGS. If you are in a KH for a funeral or wedding, don't ACT like the sad sack DF'd person sitting in the back. You have a right to be anywhere you darn well please and unless you are kicked out of the hall for being nice, friendly and outgoing, what can they do to you?

Interesting TED talk
by TweetieBird ineven though this is primarily about coming out of the gay closet - it can also apply to coming out of the "apostacy" closet.. http://www.upworthy.com/a-4-year-old-girl-asked-a-lesbian-if-shes-a-boy-she-responded-the-awesomest-way-possible.

The TED talk was awesome. I love TED! There are websites filled with them and we should watch one a day. Keep us humble and learnning. Ash makes a great point-our bodies are not built for the stress of the closets we put ourselves in. I stayed in a bad marriage for way too long, but when I left it, finally, the closet that protected me as well as imprisoned me was gone. There is more than one kind of stress, people, right? But at least my wounds are all out in the open and now things can heal, rather than festering and killing me off. The crazy thing is that my ex-who was complacent about our bad marriage has had angina ever since he turned the kids away from me because of the divorce circumstances. I think he is now in a closet of his own making and its hurting him. I am not very sympathetic. He has been an ass and he knows it.

So proud to be part of an international "brotherhood"
by ohnightdivine in.... but doesn't even care about the "lowly ones" in the congregation.
i think it's part of human nature to be interested in meeting people from other lands.
in our case, it's the international assemblies.

Those people are everywhere, in every church, club, union-whatever. It does seem extra hypocritical in any kind of spiritual group, though, doesn't it?

An Ex-JW Legal Department, NGOs, ectÂ…
by Londo111 inthe watchtower has the means because of the legal department to win cases in their favor, and appeal all the way up to the supreme court.
the average person does not often have the resources to get equal legal representation.
it is david going up against goliath, but in real life: goliath wins.. if only there was a legal department for ex-jws who needed it, whereupon they could get free legal help, not just on behalf of themselves, but who could win rights for the entire ex-jw community, even individual jws who need help against such a huge cooperation.. for instance, have you caught wind that the elders are doing an investigative committee on you, violating your privacy?

You all (in the US) can get legal advice. If you are in a pre-paid legal service, you could find out whether you have a (REAL) case and you could also get the lawyers to write letters for you to put the fear of the law in the WT if you actually DO have a case. The beauty of the pre paid legal services is that the ones with proprietary law firms get paid before you call-they have no incentive to tell you anything other than the truth about whether you have 'grounds' or not to bring a lawsuit. They have experts in all different areas of law whether it is constitutional, abuse, domestic, contract, whatever-they will give you the right one for your case.
This legal advice can be had for a very nominal fee ($17 a month) and will cover all kinds of concerns/contracts/traffic tickets, etc. Most of us don't necessarily want to start a class action or change the world-we want them off our backs, to not interfere with our families, not harrass or stalk us, gossip about us or defame us. That is usually pretty standard stuff that can be solved with a letter. How many lawyers will write a letter for $17?
They can tell you if you SHOULD start a big deal about something or help you figure out how to do so, but you don't have to start at the bottom or call the cheap guy listed in the llittle nickel want ads or something. Call LegalShield or Hyatt or Prepaid legal services. They all have plans, and most can be purchased without going through your company benefit plan.
What you would like to do is a legal co-operative and lets face it, just getting this website managed/moderated is pretty much the limit-its a hassle for someone and most of us aren't volunteering for the duty. Its hard work! Managing a ex JW legal service is not feasable for anyone that I know of.

This entire debacle was multplied in its heinousness by the fact that the WTS refused to admit it was a religious organization for the sake of amassing property. It is disgusting that their own consciences allowed them to do this, encouraged JWs to be corrupt and bribe and furthermore was, in its two faced way-garnering sympathy for the unrelenting staunchness of the JWs in Malawi. Malawi was one of the things that fed every JW child's fear of armageddon and persecution. I know cause I was a child back then. This isn't all hypothetical to me and I wasn't in Mexico or Malawi. This was an everyday drama to JWs of the era. The WT used the brothers in both places to further their own interests and that infuriates me.
