I didn't think I would start my period before armageddon. I'm menopausal and a grandmother now. My mom was in her early 20's in 1968. She is 71 now and getting social security. She grew old and half of her siblings have died. My dad died. She got old and eventually she will die. She no longer talks about the end of this old system of things, but she still manages to complain about it a lot. Is that good or is it contributing to her depressive state?

The Society is no longer printing hardcover books.

I think they are barely bothering to TRY to look like they are serious anymore about the religion. The content is ridiculous-the 'study edition' is a joke. 15 minutes keeps you counted as a publisher, they are baptising more children than ever. . . its like they don't even bother to PLAY at being sincere. (Speaking of the top leadership decisions). What are the old timers (my age, my mom's age) thinking after years of devotion to this whole idea that they are the only ones preaching/teaching/yada yada.?

Check with the tour/travel company that is organizing it and see how they rate in reviews. Even if you don't have a specific place, you will get a fee for how they do business. Yelp, trip advisor and other services may be particularly helpful, but just google the tour operator, too!

Elder: I threw out all WT & Awake and only keep the last ten years...
by adjusted knowledge ini had a recent conversation with an elder from my mother's congregation.
he with another elder was at my mom's house.
my mother has all the bound volumes for both the awake and watchtower plus most of the older books.

Remember the old campy tv spy shows where they would tell you that after you read the missive or open the box (or whatever) in 10 seconds, it will explode? Maybe the WT should be written on paper that decomposes in 3 years and there should be a built in worm or whatever on all online info so that it just disappears into the ether (nowhere to be found in the net) after that period of time.

OTOH, the law forbidding it? Whole other argument. I am actually in favor of laws on that one. To hell with freedom of expression. (Thats not me being God, that's me wanting to breathe freely). Different discussion altogether.

Actually, in that part of the world are many traditional alternatives to smoking. Khat(mostly chewed) has been long used in that region and while illegal in some countries, it is legal in Israel (these days, in times past, no one was regulating such things at all).
I have a visceral objection to religion (any, including mine) taking something like that and presuming to tell us "God's view on smoking(or whatever)". Which tells you exactly what they think of THEMSELVES-They have elevated themselves to diety.
We can make judgements on things that are good or bad for us (or family life, or the environment or to animals) and use our conscience as humans in the decision making process. Some are moral/ethical (to us), but they are NOT directed by God and no man should presume to tell us so when God has not spoken.

Expressions on faces at DC/RC
by BU2B ini have become more observant at the last couple district conventions of jws faces and enthusiasm and it seems to be very somber.
i remember a couple of years ago i was an attendant at one of the upper sections at the blue cross arena in rochester, ny and in afternoon session at least half were curled up with their eyes closed, some with blankets.
the applause seems very forced and mechanical.

JW Kids Who Lack Sincerity: Are You In The Flipping Truth Or Not?

not someone who led a double life while pretending to be a goody-goody jw.
i mean the kind of kid who went to the meetings and did field service while making minimal effort at maintaining a pretense of being a true believer?.

Man, I was the MOST sincere JW kid I ever knew, until I studied so much that I couldn't believe it anymore! Not knowing what happened to everyone, I do know a few of the ones that seemed to be filling seats are still JWs, even Elders now. I don't know what happened to everyone I hope that the nice ones got out! I see some of them on facebooks connected to my moms though, so I doubt it. Makes me sad.
Anyone here from the Redondo/Des Moines congregation?

I believe that earlier allegations (0r evidence) was that after some tried to get him DFd at his hall (where he was elder), they DID try to sweep it under the feet and the other parties brought it up to the BRANCH which investigated and then DFd him. The earlier testimony given was that the entire elder body was spiritually corrupt and morally bankrupt. At least two elders were told (Sewells father was an elder, too-)including the presiding and they were told that nothing more would come of it. So they told a travelling overseer who told the branch (so I guess they are good for something!).
I would say that Sewell did think his position would keep him out of trouble and he would have gotten away with it had his victims accepted what the congregation had ruled.
