There are a lot of justifications for a lot of scriptures, but the virgin bit is really a "jump the shark" kind of story. No justice there when it could have gone unmentioned and no one would be the wiser. But it wasn't about God, it was about stupid men who were hung up on bloody virginal wives.

For Bible believers-Inspired Bible?
by JWdaughter inone issue i have with declaring the bible an entirely inspired work from god is the bit in the ot about killing girls who were "proven"to not be virgins on their wedding night-by stoning them.
the absence of blood on the sheet or cloak was considered entirely valid proof that they were immoral and so they were to be stoned.. that is scientifically invalid.
not all girls bleed when they lose their virginity-in fact, the more skilled the partner, the less likely that they will bleed at all.

Why would a business man / elder sign a blank document?

My husband sells insurance. IN his case, an acquaintance of his who is woefully ignorant of the insurance industry, thought that my husband could just lend his name, licence and signature to his new business venture (he wants to open a chain of insurance companies in the Houston area and my hubby has a great reputation) so that he will be able to get in quick with the various companies (be signed up with them) and basically, avoid the hard part of starting. He offered my husband a big chunk of money (signing bonus and ongoing commissions/residuals) for his participation. My husband would basically have nothing to do with it and this guy would hire brand new agents of various licensures to run things. My hubby would have no financial stake in it going into it other than GETTING money.
He refused. Why? Totally unethical (which the other guy didn't even realize, he is THAT ignorant, but he is offering enough money that many would have said yes). He would really have no input into anything and they really just wanted his signature when they need it. He gave up a lot of money, but he is keeping his reputation (so many people have no clue as to how much an ethical business man give up $ to keep his ethics and honor). Having your name being used to facilitate deals that you are clueless about is a really really bad idea if you want to stay in business.
Insurance and annuity work is sometimes very detailed and involved and deals with a great deal of money-ensuring that you are dealing with the right people, the right documents and the right accounts and that the customer understands what they are signing-it's critical stuff and a lot of hanky panky could go on. . .but it won't go on with my husbands' name affixed to it.
Only an idiot signs a blank piece of paper.

Could it be that Jehovah is punishing me for leaving his religion?
by Julia Orwell ini know it's a completely absurd thing to say, but something happened to me today that triggered the old cult reaction.
my mind instantly lapsed back into that of a jw and for a split second i thought that because i wasn't doing jehovah things that jehovah's blessing had been removed from me and this is why my life seems to be running into so many dead-ends.
as a jw i attributed anything good happening to me to being the result of my being a good jw and dutifully doing everything the borg teaches.

Life is tough sometimes. For those in and out of the Borg. The beauty of your situation NOW is that you are out of the Borg, so it is just one LESS shitty thing to have to deal with while dealing with the others. Good thing is that you have a dad who will take you out to play. Family is worth more than a job and you still have yours. So many JWs just abandon theirs if they don't play the game. You didn't do that. You are not any kind of screw up, its just a cycle in your life. You are in the agitating cycle. After the spin out, you will start filling up again!

I haven't believed the "Bible" to be inspired for years, but I could always have a respectful dialogue with folks who totally believe the Bible is the inerrant, inspired word of God. They could have their explanations for discrepancies that were based on things that one could(perhaps) give them as a different perspective, a different understanding, historical context, etc, etc.
That one though-the bloody sheet bit, is total proof that there is no God behind that. It is not a medical theory, it is not a perspective issue. Its is flat out fact that can't be denied.
I wonder how the JWs and other fundamentalists of the Christian persuasion work that one around in their head? I can't even remember questioning it, myself until recently.

So, how could one believe in an that the bible is inspired/written by God when it made that kind of statement and directive?

not till after the meeting.....
by sowhatnow inthe dreaded phrase i will never miss!!!.
some of the ones i had to hear ,.
we cant go over grandmas... till after the meeting.

I kind of liked the service meeting-that was when lots of the dumb ass things that happened at doors were discussed, and new light, and people in trouble, stuff happening at hall (nothing really, but life as a JW isboringand that meeting was less so than the WT study or the sun talk or god forbid, the ministry school! OTOH, I was happy to leave early cause then I wouldn't miss Happy Days and I would get to watch Laverne and Shirley. My mom hated us watching 3s company, but we did sometimes (most went over my head, though now it looks pretty innocent-back then it was racy).
My mom gave up taking my bro to meetings as soon as she couldn't guilt my dad into it anymore. Not sure of timings, but I'm thinking dad went to a few meetings to calm down my mom as 1975 was looming. We were 8/9 that year. I know my bro never went past the age of 10, so I think my dad engineered that-plus he was a hellion. My mom was well rid of him:) And he was well acquainted with the spanking paddle.

Wife and Kids at Meeting
by lambsbottom inso wife and kids went to meeting while i stayed home because i am on a religious cleanse.
i feel really sad and lonely but i know that it is for the best.. on a side note, doe anyone here still agree with jw doctrines?
trinity being false?
-
JWdaughter
There is no religious group that we can count on to be the 'truth'. Each person individually faces God in the judgement. Look to your belief and what you are doing about it.
I'm not trinitarian, but that is pretty much all I can agree with-I don't believe the rest of the cristology.

Playing the dating Game..............how do you play?
by KateWild ineveryone knows i have been playing this dating game, and what a fun game it has been.
i have met a few nice guys but remained strictly platonic, and also met some really pushy guys too that just wanted sex.. i have not met mr right yet, but who knows what the platonic guys could evolve into.. it's all a game and anyone who says they don't play games when dating is lying.
does a man always have to make the first move?.
-
JWdaughter
Kate, with a name like Katewild, they may get the wrong impression at the get go. Maybe thats the puritanical American in me talking:) But men see what they want to.
When it is right, I don't know that 'making a move' will really be an issue. It will happen if they are interested in seeing you. If they aren't confident enough to ask you-do you really want to bother? (Ok, I'm old fashioned that way). Just go on your dates, don't overthink it, and enjoy them (or not) for what they are. If they call again, then you can consider if you care to meet them again.
From everything I am reading that you let us know about-I would take it slow and very easy. Finding a man should not be your priority right now (sorry, that is bossy of me). Focus on the parts of your life that are critical and I bet the right man is going to show up in any case. You are still young, fun, and have a lot to offer. Once you feel more stable and established, YOU will be a more desirable partner to the kind of man that I imagine you would hope to find. They say you need to be the kind of person you want to meet.
I wish you joy in however you step forward. Personally, I think coffee is a nice, unthreatening way to meet someone and just keep it at that in your head. That is all that it is about. Not sex or a relationship. The guys with just sex in mind should be dismissed probably before starbucks is even an option. So should the desperate ones of all sorts. You have antennae. Use them wisely. Just do things that are fun for you and hang around with people that you enjoy on that basis. Friends will try to set you up and often with folks that they think you have something in common with. Choose your friends wisely and good things are likely to result in many areas of your life.

Ebola -274 LDS/Mormon Miss. are re-assigned, WT doing what?
by Phizzy inthe lds church (mormons) have pulled 274 missionaries out of the ebola affected areas of africa and sent them to other lands.. does the wt care enough about its sales reps to do the same ?

I think it is a lot easier to be an inactive Mormon than an inactive JW. They may try to catch it at the outset, but then everyone seems to accept the distance. Being a Jack mormon is a bit of a disgrace, but it doesn't keep one from holidays or sunday dinner. Even excommunication is not the doom (socially) as it is in the JWs. So, the LDS church knows that there are a LOT of relatives (who do tend to stay in and associated to some degree) of their young missionaries that they will answer to-and my knowledge is that LDS folks are a lot more vocal in calling out their religious leadership than JWs who are still in. So, the church actually stands to lose great swaths of people if they screw this one up. The WT doesn't stand to lose more than a couple of missionaries-no matter how much they screw it up. Families can't stand up for their loved ones and stay in the org. Many have rejected and abandoned much of their family who doesn't cut the JW mustard. So, they know JWs will put up with unlimited amounts of crap and any that they lose will be so thoroughly cut off that no one will even know WHY.
