Kingdom Consolidation and Sales are coming – Reliable Source
by thedepressedsoul ini heard form a reliable source that a kingdom hall consolidation is going to be happening in the us.
currently they are looking at every kingdom hall to see if they could and should sell it.
any kingdom hall that has not been updated and is in a bad location (long driveway, not in a visible location etc...) will be sold.

Sometimes I wish I was still in just to be a mole. It in interesting- the things happening of late. The WT doesn't need no stinking persecution, it's gonna run itself into the ground. -

How dishonest was the Apostle Paul?
by opusdei1972 inmay be some of you will be shocked by this question.
however, when i was studying the bible with critical eyes i detected that paul ( or saul of tarsus) misquoted the hebrew bible in order to get false support for his arguments.
of course, this tricky kind of use of the "scriptures" was not only used by him, but others, like the author of the gospel of matthew got unsupported doctrines misquoting verses.

Paul was probably naturally bald by age 23. -

I think Paul changed everything, but Paul got me to questioning EVERYTHING. I think he essentially changed things, but I can't prove much as it started 2000 years ago. I think simple Jesus teaching was embroidered btw Paul into what we think of as Christianity. Men want men to tell them more, especially when the basics are simple. Folks like rules and if God won't give them, they'll find some.

If it's too easy, we aren't doing it right. It's human nature, I think.

Most of the women wearing the most extreme forms of covering are doing so in response to it being the local costume. Their particular level of piety may or may not be reflected-or even their family religious inclinations or political ideas being liberal or conservative. If you live in Saudi, you dress as a Saudi. I can visit Saudi and as long as I'm modest, no one will say boo. Few countries have legislated this, but going against local custom can get local ones burdened with assumptions about their modest character. My family lost their minds when I covered, still wearing western clothes, just the modest version. They Aren't religious or politically extreme people mostly, but I was going against our culture. Freaked out all my family. Many let me know that they didn't care what I felt, but I was disrespectful of "our way of life" by covering my hair in a way that looked Muslim. Strangers mostly don't comment or respond, but family does. (Some traffic issues in Tx being big exception)
My friends religious and pious family objected when she started wearing a simple headcovering, and they lived in the Levant. I have a friend who is questioning EVERYTHING and her family knows and is supportive of her quest. She wears hijab out of respect and everyone knows she is toying with every faith and non faith system. This has no threat attached-her dad is cool. She was raised that way but she will likely not wear it if she chooses something else, but that is her slightly different take on it. Her comfort level is her own.
Don't presume. As a new Muslim I have done that myself. Most are not doing it as subservience or force. Some must be, but I think most non-Muslims make a lot of assumptions based on their own beliefs and culture. I know Muslims do the exact same thing. The basic foundation behind women covering in Islam is modesty, not subservience. When Muslims from covered cultures see very uncovered women, they assume immodesty. You see women covered and think it's about subservience. It just isn't. Not at its source.
Muslims growing up in the west are more likely to choose based on a religious understanding, but an uncovered Muslim is not necessarily liberal or conservative in general. It's a personal decision. Their own religious understanding. Or just preference or need. My family means right now I don't have freedom TO cover. But knowing, they still give me hell no matter what I do.

DJS, the mega churches often have special group ministries for gender, age, interest and other groups as well as small family group fellowships. They have activities and educational opportunities that are voluntary. They have volunteer brigades directed towards food or missions abroad or teaching children, helping homeless or abused. Doesn't matter how big a group of JWs you get-that ain't happening. -

My mom was first taken to the hall by a lady who came to her house doing door to door work when my mom was two. She had a baby brother and her mom was pregnant again. The JW lady offered to take her to the hall (later took her siblings as the new kids KEPT ON COMING). Anyway, this lady took special care for my mom and lavished her with a lot of attention that she was not getting as the eldest of 6 kids (and a few miscarriages along the way, so there was that drama, too). My moms association and on/off studying went on for about 35 years as she was finally baptised when I was 13. In the early 70's she had trouble with smoking. She didn't quite buy the escatology(she claims to this day, but she dragged my dad to the hall in the early 70s, so I dont believe her). She always considered herself a JW, we didnt celebrate holidays after I was 8, and I, like Candace Conti DID go out in service without my mom A LOT (my worst experience was getting stuck with a sour old pioneer on a regular basis, best experience was the cute boy two years older and the charming MS who was about 10 years older (he was later dfd and reinstated for the normal reasons).
So, essentially, mom 'studied' or was associated strongly with JWs for 33 years. Many of her relatives got sucked in, in the meantiime, including her younger brother and sister, several aunts and many cousins. One is still a JW, after 3 DFings, she is a pioneer.
Do you think she set any records? She was inactive (didn't tell me!) for a while after my dad died. Still thinks it is the best option out there but claims she doesn't expect that they have it all right. I think choosing a religion for being the lesser of the evils is an interesting way to do it:) I think she is one of those that cannot be reasoned with because she has the emotional tie.
I think she kept under the radar because everyone assumed that she WAS a JW (albeit a weak one). Later, I was DA'd and I think that was because they assumed I, too, was baptised. I had more service hours than most elders did.

Did you know WTBTS applied for Holocaust compensation?
by umbertoecho indid you know that the wtbts applied for these compensation funds?
i had no idea and if this has already been addressed then so be it.
i find it interesting due to the fact that so much is made of the jws being in camps during ww2 and nothing else is expressed about the other millions who died in these camps.

A few JWs died without heirs and we want to be their heirs!
Funny thing is that most of the "JWs" were actually "Bible Students" weren't they?

Separated for over a month...
by cognac init hasn't been easy at all... trying to care for two kids- ages 3 & 6, while working fulltime, barely any support from immediate family, my ex has only seen the kids twice for a few hours, ughhhh.... i make way to much money to qualify for any sort of help, ex barely makes anything so that's out.... this is a million times harder than i could have even imagined... but, we are managing somehow; abeit, a little creatively at times.... i had just started thinking to myself, "we can do this!
" then, my house got robbed, about 10k worth of stuff stolen... ughhhh..... this is so depressing....

What a tough time. Any chance the ex took stuff because he feels it's his? My ex would.
I'm sorry, it's hard and will be for the next 15 years minimum. But after you get through the upcoming months and all of their issues, you will get the superwoman cape and be able to handle anything life throws at you.

July 19th Watchtower Summary. Insanity
by Lemonp injust got back from the wt study and it overall was just so blindingly biased and leading.. i had to read it from the platform too, i hope they couldn't see the confounded look on my face as i read this craziness out!.
first we consider the faith of abel, enoch, noah, abraham, isaac and jacob, and moses.. all of these people are held up as sterling examples of blind faith, with the article pointedly saying that their imaginations sustained their faith in gods promises for them.
no mention anywhere at all that all of these characters saw and talked to angels, spoke to god himself, saw and performed miracles, or any of the other feats experienced by these characters.

They settled a case after a verdict and before vindication. Conti wiped the floor with them though some dubs think they won. It isnt the same cult. Just as bad, New m.o.
