Everytime I saw that kid, he seemed like the only sane person in the room! But he lived in a crazy world. I feel bad for him and his family and his little sister who will forever have the tragedy of his death connected with her birth. Not to mention, she won't have a big brother! That is a huge loss. I have a son that age. My heart goes out to them.

he was awarded a medal from the governor one year later for his heroic actions.

Ok, the only thing I saw from the OP was from a website that came off like the Wacky World News. I did go to the site, but NO I didn't thoroughly read it. I did read the one page of short and concise explanation on Popular Mechanics http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/defense/1227842.html?page=8&c=y%20S4.
Was there a further explanation in PM? This is what the pilot in question said "Saying he was reluctant to fuel debate by responding to unsubstantiated charges, Gibney (a lieutenant colonel, not a major) declined to comment." The ANG spokesman however, who was with Gibney at the time refuted the tale.
Is the WT society on the HOAX website you referenced? I didn't see it there when I looked. Does that mean I should start going door to door again? Clean out a bag and fill it up at the literature counter? Send my apologies to the Borg for my grievous lack of trust in them?

Street Witnessing in Conyers, GA (rather long, but IMO cool experience)
by AuldSoul inthis is a long experience, i am trying to get it down while still fresh in mind.
my hope is that some might be aided in their approach to jws by reading this, but i dunno.
read if you want to, don't read if you don't want to, and that way you'll have no business being annoyed by my having posted it.

Wow, I was so engrossed in the story, I sure didn't notice any spelling issues! Thank you for sharing it with us. Food for thought! And thanks for the ammo, should ever I need it.

That marriage will go whatever way it goes. . .but it is doubtful that proof of his cheating will change her mind about the borg. It will probably cement her in further, and she would either stand by him or get all her JW friends to rally and that would just pull the web around her tighter. Ouch.
As the mother of two teenagers-be as close to her as possible w/o creeping out anyone. Love her, be a nice kid who shows love, no matter how far you get out of the Borg. Be the best darn teenager ever(w/o it having any relation to your religion-be close to mom) Let her know that she can depend on you to stand by her NO MATTER WHAT and get that kind of assurance FROM her. Because mommy promises matter to moms alot. Speaking as a mom, I would never reject a child. I know the borg requires it when a kid leaves, but when push comes to shove-the woman is your mom, and often, pushing and shoving a mom away from her kids is the death of a relationship. It ruins plenty of marriages. Even if she stays in, your relationship to her can be a loving and supportive one that she will always feel safe in-and know that she has 'a place to go'.

Gosh, storing up treasures in a place you won't ever be able to access. Hmm. Sounds like a charlatans dream scheme, doesn't it? Then, moving along. . .
10:10 Be "Rich Toward God" o In What Sense?
o "Honor Jehovah With Your Valuable Things"
o Build With Fire-Resistant Materials
o Always Choose "the Good Portion"
Of course-we know what this involves. Slave labor and putting all your time, energy and resources into God's kingdom (i.e. Organization)
Because that is the answer to the next talk
How Can You Survive Jehovah's "Day of Fury"?
And reiterating the whole point:
14:35 "You Cannot Slave for God and for Riches"
15:05 "Where Your Treasure Is, There Your Heart Will Be"
No, I'm not cynical, just spent the first 15 years of my life learing why any effort of time or money that is directed in a place other than the organization is considered a futile waste of time.

Ever know of a great family movie, the Witnesses found demons or evil in?
by free2beme ini remember growing up, the witness children were often ones that were left to see all those g rated movies from disney.
yet even those at time, while accepted by just about every religion out there, were considered demonic.
for example, the following movies were said to show witchcraft and in or congregation we were encouraged to discard them and not own copies of them; sleeping beauty, snow white, the little mermaid, bed knobs and broomsticks, and fantasia.

I remember watching Laverne and Shirley and after mentioning an episode, was counseled by a sister that Laverne had loose morals and Carmine was trying to get in shirley's pants(couched in more theocratic teminology) and that I shouldn't watch it. Of course, Little house on the prairie featured a one church town and it WASN'T a KH. AND, they celebrated birthdays and easter and christmas (I don't remember birthdays, but whatever). Wizard of Oz(wizard, imagination run wild), It's a Wonderful life(Christmas, suicide), Sound of Music (Nuns, and catholic church and portraying Catholics as nice human beings who were appalled by nazi-ism(Ok, the last thing is assumed))
I read a lot of books about WW2 as a young person (9-14) and saw so many instances of very strong stances being made against evil-by non JWs that it gave me a broader world view than i am sure they would have liked. If my mom had been smart enough to guard my reading more carefully, she would have caught it, and my dad was not a JW and didn't really care-just worried that I read too many romances (back then, they kissed on the last page and that was it. I later discovered the trashy kind)
Sorry, went way OT.

What's the view on the American Flag?
by LuciousJ ini'm confused about the whole "american flag" do's & don'ts.
what is the real take on it....is it wrong to have anything patriotic?
is it wrong to say the 'pledge of allegiance'?
-
JWdaughter
The JW view? Don't salute the flag or say the pledge. I have heard different schools of thought on standing for it (or the anthem). I always stood respectfully.
As a non-JW of course, it is strictly up to YOU what YOUR stand on the issue is. I like it personally, but I was always a subversive little JW, and knew the flag salute the first time I had the opportunity as a non-JW to say it. I got teary eyed for the national anthem(hard to explain when an elders daughter is standing next to one at school assemblies).

Picture on book "You can live forever"
by Motema Bolingo ini remember that a few months ago, a member gave the reproduction of a publicity corresponding exactly to the picture of a nice swimming girl appearing in the "you can live forever ..." book.. this image is on my website (the first one on the page) :.
http://www.aggelia.be/subliminal4b.html.
would it be possible to put again this publicity on the forum ?.

Hi Jaques,
Wow, that would appear to be from the Stern. Anyone brought it to their attention? Have they been compensated/or the model? I wonder how that works. Lovely girl, and not even any imagination used in the image-it is exactly-down to the strands of hair and ear-the same image.

It seems ex jw's in the UK are angrier than anywhere else why?
by hambeak ini admittedly am new to this and i am not being judgmental.
why does it seem that when i read the threads from folks in the uk it seems they are preoccupied with a lot of research into the wts and changes into their beliefs?
why not just let it go and go on with life.
-
JWdaughter
I haven't noticed more anger. I have noticed a lot of activity from the UK participants-seems to be a lot proportionately that are active on this board. They seem to know one another a little better too(maybe cause it is a little island and I am from the States) I think they may be a little more frank and say what they think-but that could just be a quick impression-I certainly haven't gone back to review!
Upon a little reflection though, I think-being such a smaller place physically-it is probably a lot harder to fade and go under the radar-which would mean more difficult relationships with relatives and friendly aquaintances. I wonder if that might be the case? That would royally piss ME off-being being cut OFF entirely from people I care about, rather than a subtle separation that allows a relationship that still holds warmth and love. Harder when everyone you know is in a place the size of two states in the US. Maybe that little island IS a bit claustrophic.

You know when the wet ground gets the hard frost? Everything is crunchy and looks like the moons surface? And then it thaws and turns to mush. Don't know why, but that is what came to mind when I saw the title of the thread. I think it is cause I am usually initially resistant, and then I just wallow in things and really muck up in it. Story of my life religiously. Which is why I try to keep churchy stuff out of my relationship with God. It mucks it up too much.
