In Ireland, JW's may sue over blood transfusion

in an unprecedented case, an irish judge overruled an adult woman jehovah's witness objection to blood transfusions.

in the past, only children had been forced to have transfusions where deemed necessary.

when the story first broke out, there were several ambiguities and questions unanswered.

I read of the case. The woman went to the hospital, did NOT claim to be married and supposedly had no idea who the father was (or something)She had a blood card, but also said she was Roman Catholic. So, as she is getting the transfusion, some guy who is there illegally (apparently) claims to be the 'husband','father', and tried to get in. NOW, in the middle of all those LIES they have a newborn baby about to lose the only parent that they know it will have in that country(she is an immigrant). To keep the woman alive so as to not have an orphan is obviously EVIL and they should be SUED for not knowing which LIE to believe or disbelieve, because these, the most HONEST people on earth have a right for their religious beliefs to be expected, even after LYING and DECEIT.

I have sympathy for the hospital in this case and for that poor baby who is going to be raised by JW parents. Irish people love babies, they could have found it a wonderful non JW family if the mother had died. Glad the mom did not die, but it is a shame the WT is supplying a lawsuit for a liar against the hospital that saved the womans LIFE. But we know that life has no value among those nuts.

i have a mix of friends from democrat to republican.

i am a registered independent myself.

i have heard it said, and watched in the news the obvious moves by the democrats, to put this woman in place to run for the office of president.

Anything is possible. I don't know that she could actually get enough to win. I hope not. I don't like the woman. I'd rather have her husband as president. I am 40, female and apparently a bit left, so I guess you can take that for what it is worth.

even the wtbts has problems with traffic, surely they should be able to deal with this with their direct line to jehovah!.

perhaps they could spend some money and build a bridge across route 22, they have plenty..

A relatively innocuous problem simply requiring a slow down of traffic at a busy area. I wouldn't mind a few of those in some particular spots. May not like the religion, but I sure don't want anyone hurt!

OTOH, it is interesting that while they won't participate in government in things that matter to a state or country by voting, that they have no problem in getting into changing laws through letters to the city council, state highway dept and legislation/law suits. But you know-true Christians are to 'have NO part in the world." Where is that fuzzy line drawn again??

28 states in the usa do not have mandatory reporting of child abuse in religious groups.. doctors, teachers, healthcare workers and psychologists are by law required to report incidents of child sexual assault.

this will probably apply to few here, but to me it'll always be that way.

it's the what if syndrome maybe, but it's always there.

i still think that as a core belief system the jw's have it right, even if their delivery isn't always right.

The WT doesn't think they have a little right-they claim to have the truth, the only truth and nothing but the truth-unless and until they get new light. Well, that's not truth. That is what everyone else has-reading, researching and going with your gut. And changing your mind sometimes, and being right sometimes and being wrong sometimes. Sometimes you are so wrong you ignore it and pretend you are EXTRA right in a self righteous denial of your own fallibility. (You know how kids get extra defensive if blamed for something they don't want to own up to, but are guilty of? I have 3 kids-I know how this works) The WT is no more right than any other and just as wrong as many others, more wrong than many others. Thats life. I'd rather be wrong in Hawaii than in Siberia-but thats just me. The WT is the Siberia of wrong.

Hi Guys, we all think later what we should have come back with for a comment. I think you all have more than made up for any of the 'should haves' that you have thought about over the last few months. Oh, the things I wish I would have had the presence of mind(and information) to say way back when. I was only 15 and only had an inkling of how wrong it all was. But I knew it was deeply, viscerally WRONG. Glad you did it, glad you gave the elders something to stew over (and they DID). Chalk one up for YOU all!!!

How many commands should we follow??

as a jw i was always taught "you must go on the ministry" ( taught as a "command" of jesus to be applied to everyone - or you wouldnt be doing gods will and therefore he could not be pleased with you ) and many other things, "do not forsake the gathering of yourselves together etc" as an example you must get to the meetings or you are inactive in gods eyes.

however after reading jesus words basically saying accept jesus as gods son and love your neighbour, i began wondering more and more whether the ministry is a necessity for many people.

i personally never minded the ministry except when i found i was spreading mans deception and lies.

I am sorry, knowing that there are atheists, i will stick to the loving your neighbor as not burdensome. I guess loving a God that one does not believe in could be rather burdensome! I apologise. I believe that treating ones neighbor well is a standard in many if not most religions. I have read buddist teachings that are similar. It is what most of the 10 commandments boil down to and it works well in kindergarten.

My first graders' 1st classroom rule is: Be nice-everyone here should be friends. Basic, but I like it.

I think the standards are always the best: Love your God and love your neighbor as yourself. Doing both those things is not a burden to anyone, and is a joy to most.

Reporting time in FS does not meet either of those standards. In fact, FS more often causes God to be mocked, makes your neighbor hate you and makes you wish your neighbor were anywhere but answering their door-forcing you to tell them something you don't fully believe and making you feel like a freaking hypocrite.

So, be like Jesus and love your neighbor!
