The Lesson of Martin Luther...
by Confucious inhey guys.... just felt like posting tonight.. comment or don't comment... but there was a good thought that came to mind tonight for me.. martin luther.... no... not martin luther king, jr.. the martin luther.. and forgive me please if my historical facts aren't 100 percent.. but martin luther went against the catholic church.. he posted the 95 rig-a-ma-role on the church doors.
basically condeming the sale of indulgence from pope leo.. anyway... martin luther went against the so called "norm" of the day.. but one of the things that i learned from him was his famous quote.... "here i stand.
god help me.".

The thing about Luther and antisemitism-he was a man of his time. While very enlightened in some ways, he was in darkness in others. As are we all. Think how long it took for antisemitism to be absolutely socially unacceptable. . .wait, it hasn't happened YET. Jeez, you'd think we would have finished with that one by now, huh?

You can never have too many people to love. Don't they say friends are God's way of making up to you for your relatives?

Voting with their wallet
by SirNose586 inwhen i came here in may, i began to see phrases like "voting with their wallets" or "voting with their feet" in regards to declining contributions and declining attendance figures.
i think i am seeing the former in action..... last sunday i went to the local ca.
at the half they read the accounts report--aka, cough up that dough report--and there was a "$4,000 deficit.

Choosing life said: They redecorate the assembly hall when it still looks brand new and I mean NICELY. Then we have to pay for it. They don't even ask us our opinion or offer a vote.
Shelly says: Money would be a heck of a thing for them to let you all have any control over! ask your opinion or offer a vote. . .hehe. . .are you very new to the org?

Culinary Fads
by Stephanus inremember back in the 80s when olive oil was all the rage?
you had to cook or douse everything with it.
then the tv chefs started to notice its shortcomings - that extra virgin wasn't very good for frying (but great for dressings) or for use in mayonnaise.. remember when you could only cook with polyunsaturated or monounsaturated oils, otherwise you'd drop dead?

Watch the food network. Comfort foods are the new trend. Paula Deen, Rachel Ray-most of their food is just plain old fashioned or classics with a twist(easier or with the blue veined cheese somewhere in it). Homemade Macaroni and Cheese. I LOVE IT!!!

It is NOT lacking in backbone to do another a favor. Even if the other is not entirely deserving(that we know of) If it doesn't take SasquatchMidget any extra time, and SHE doesn't mind, then there is no reason she shouldn't help her co-worker out. I have done so in the past and it is a good feeling to help someone who needs it. Being kind is not weakness. It is a strength. And if it doesn't work out, she can stop any time. It is a favor and not an obligation. She made that clear in her offer. Good for you. Remember all the safety rules and I am backing you 100%.

Your opinion: Are those raised as Witnesses more likely to end up godless?
by under_believer inwas thinking about this the other day and wanted to get your (yes: your) opinion.
i find myself slipping farther and farther down the agnostic scale in my thinking--it's possible that i'll end up an atheist.
my suspicion is that because i was raised being taught that all other religions are false, that i came to the conclusion that if the witnesses don't have "the truth" then nobody does.

Someone on this mentioned that the Bible was written(perhaps) by a bunch of power weilding Jewish guys. The funny thing is, Jews I know would pretty much concur-many Jews don't take the Bible as being terribly literal, but much of it is considered to be moral, learning stories-to show consequences and issues and how they should relate to the world and their own society. Even religious Jews, not just the cultural Jews. They believe in God, but differently than many Christians understand. Their traditions are as important as the scripture. I am not saying that is how every Jewish person thinks(my disclaimer) but many that I have met and know have a very different attitude about how the Bible is inspired than most Christians (who take it very literally) do.

The longer I have been out of the org., the less 'churched' I have become. At the same time, I have come to like God a lot more, and found more confidence in Gods love. I don't fear God in the way that churches have taught me to. I actually think he really wants the best for everyone-not just those of us lucky enough to be born in the US or Western world who have 'been preached Christ'.
Just my experience-I know a lot of people in my family who are pretty much agnostic/atheist. I actually think that some of them felt like they got so much horsepucky fed them as kids that they don't want to let anyone else feed them a different brand of it. They were after all told there was no where else to go. I think a lot got that lesson, unfortunately.
