Should I hit send button as is? Change? Or just hit delete?
by Lied2NoMore inso after being deleted because of my comment on her instagram post by my sister-in-law i got a text from her stating she didn't want a debate on instagram and the scripture i posted would not apply to satan, they are worried about me, go see elders, return to jehovah, or else you won't get life, etc etc.... i'm ready to respond with the following reply:.
so....hit send?
make changes?

I'm not sure of your purpose, but the first half paragraph will say what fairly needs to be said in response to the deletion of your post.
I'd edit it down to : Truth will always stand up to scrutiny if it indeed is truth. Lies can only stand if the truth isn't allowed to be revealed.
The rest is fine if you want to shut your sister out of your life til kingdom come. As true as it is, every bit of hostility doesn't need to come outoday, does it? You know that your posting it will put you on permanent outs with sis, right?

Advice Needed - JW Grandparents
by What Now? inmy family has been out (inactive no meeting attendance or field service) for just over two years..
weve made many changes in our lives, including with our personal appearances (tattoos, piercings etc) that are a pretty obvious sign that we arent going back any time soon.
our families went through a period of time about a year ago when they made a lot of threats that if we left the truth, they wouldnt even be able to share a meal with us, they would stay loyal to jehovah etc.

Ever think about just saying that you don't want them exposed to the religion because you never want the JW relatives in the position of thinking they need to shun your kids if they don't come to accept it as truth. They were willing to shun you. Tell them you'd rather your children don't have a close relationship to lose than for your kids to face what you have had to face for being similarly exposed to it. You want your kids to only experience unconditional love from family.

Your family is lucky to be around your kids at all. It's good the babysitting is out. I think there can still be a conversation though. Go over some positive character education that you got as a child that is not so much JW centric as it is humanity centric. You can give the JWs credit for that as a generosity though you know it's some stretchy b.s..
Tell your parents that indoctrinating your children with unique religious dogma is not ok, but if they want to include them in their Christian work of feeding the poor and assisting widows(cleaning, cooking, yard work) you would be happy for your kids to help shop or work at a food bank(as age appropriate) you would be happy to work with them in doing some practical Christian loving in your community. They can take that however they want, but it may give your family a new experience and something positive to do with the kids and you.

Please vaccinate your children
by Viviane inand remember your boosters as adults!.
currently there is a measles outbreak in the u.s. the outbreak is clustered into communities where parents choose not to get their children vaccinated.
vaccination works primarily on herd immunity.

Doc, the more deliberately unvaccinated people-or exposed ones go out and about, they are exposing the ones that are too young or medically vulnerable.
Infants and ill babies/children shouldn't have to die for stupidity of others.

I think that a key bit that the antivaxxers are missing is the issues that can ensue without vaccinations. How many here have seen anyone affected by smallpox, polio, even chickenpox? A high fever for any extended time often results in male infertility (anatomically vulnerable). That's the least of it. You have to be alive for infertility to matter. My husband and his sister were scarred viciously. Their brother died.
The consequences of having those diseases are dire and as we have seen recently, they spread rapidly in a vulnerable exposed population. Like kids at Disneyland. That was "just" measles. Have you seen someone affected their whole life with consequences of polio or smallpox? I have.
I also know this. My nephew, who has been diagnosed with multiple issues, autism among them, was not vaccinated on time because of all his medical issues at birth. He was diagnosed with autism before any vaccinations. Truly autism is the least of his issues.
Vaccinate your kids, please.

Candace Conti Settles
by Nitty-Gritty inhot topic on topix seems to be candace conti settlement.
but it's all quiet here.
are you guys aware that your hero, who was not in it for the money but to change policies, settled without changing anything?
-

They filed the appeal to support their protestations that they are faultless.
They settled because every time they go to trial it is bad publicity. Newspaper, magazines and entire news segments have exposed the organization's role and lack of moral and ethical leadership and responsibility. The case itself notwithstanding, the publicity is harder and harder for even loyal JWs to ignore/dismiss without question.

I think that they (elders)should be mandated reporters and anyone known to have harmed a child should not have organizational support to represent themselves as ministers. That would be a huge change.
The org can't be held responsible for what they don't know-which is why any one baptised and expected to be a minister-ordained! Should be getting the same background check all teachers and child workers have to. Many churches require them for anyone in the ministry.

Indian Paradox
by fulltimestudent inwhile researching a comment on the long-running naga rebellion in india, i came across this charming image.
a woman wearing a burqua (so obviously muslim) walks her son to school.
its described as being a festival day, so the boy is dressed as the lord krishna.. from the indian newsnation: http://www.newsnation.in/photos/entertainment/only-happen-in-india-1021/slide1#more.

Krishna or Buddha is not seen as a prophet even by ahmadiya Muslims. There is an understanding that there is truth in most religion which is attributed to humanity starting out with truth and it getting mixed with falsehoods. So if a non Muslim religious person speaks with wisdom or truth, it is accepted as such.
there is usually a lot of religious interaction and acceptance in India and elsewhere. It becomes a contentious issue when other aspects of society lose their stability. Folks then want a scapegoat.

It is just the opinion of men, not a religion...
by punkofnice inan elder in my congo gave a talk.
he was always interesting to listen to and one of the nice guys.
(the nice elders are always targets of the bully elders, no?).

Religion, every religion is just the corruption of power over faith.
That elder just proved he was a human with self righteous brown nose inclinations. That he is a JW is only incidental. He'd still be the equivalent jerk in a SBC church, a mosque or the Buddhist temple down the street from me.
