Thou shall not kill? Makes no sense?

i always thought, when reading the bible, that the commandment "thou shall not kill" made no sense.

after all, the god who supposely gave it commanded his own people to kill.

so i wonder, did that god actually mean, "thou shall not murder?

I apologize for not having the exact reference, but on the back page of an older watchtower, there was a small editorial that clearly and explicitly came out in support of the death penalty....so much for christ-like forgiveness....

Cross or a Stake - which was it?

we were always lead to believe, when we belonged to the jws, that jesus died on a "stake".

was this really true or did he die on a cross as all other religions appear to believe.

if it was a cross, what on earth did the jws get out of saying otherwise.

personally I have never understood the logic of glorifying the object of his execution....if it had been the electric chair, would we be wearing little silver "electric chair"

what is the jws position on dinasours?

according to jws, when did dinasours roam the earth ?

Yes, it makes absolutely no logical sense at all. I remember asking my parents about this when I was a kid, and the best they could come up with was "well god used the dinosaurs to till the earth before man was created", OK, so why no mention in the bible? errrrrrrrr, well,,,,,,god didnt think it was important so he didnt write about them....of course if they say the dinosaurs walked the earth with man, they need to answer the question, why didnt noah save them as well? and on and on it goes!

They conveniently ignore the fossil record for the most part, but since they cant deny the existence of dinosaurs, the best justification I have heard from the dubs is that jehovah put the dinosaurs on the earth to "soften" up the ground for the coming of man....I kid you not.....oh the mental gymnastics they go through!

Evolution - Have you ever thought about...?

why out of all the species that exist only humans seem to be radically different in every shape and way?

its almost as if humans have stopped 'evolving' and have started to diversify in looks rather than in additional mutations.

all haddock look pretty much the same as each other, daisies are pretty much just daisies etc.. in fact it seems that the greatest variety within a species seems to be when artificial means are used (domestic cats, dogs etc..) .

Its really just a question of geographic distribution and the associated levels of sunlight, elevation, dietary differences. Gorillas, Chimpanzees, Orangutuangs and rhesus monkeys all share a common ancestor but they look radically different from each other simply due the environments they evolved in. WHats interesting about humans is that 'race' is largely a biological illusion, the differences are cosmetic, genetically we are more similar then different.
