  Free will?

  we are not given the same chance that "adam & eve" were given.... we actually should all be given our own "paradise" planet and the same parameters that were given to them.... we are not...we are born with all sorts of inborn "imperfections" and outside influences...beyond our control.

  so any "test" is a farce.. interesting that the only "perfect" people (jc don't count as he was pseudo-human...he was in the know)...failed....yet supposedly, many of us "imperfects" are successful...how so?.

  "religion" fails to satisfy the truly enquiring mind........again!.

  I cannot believe in free will simply because for me, such a concept would require that a particular decision I take would have to be completely unencumbered by ANY pre-existing biases, influences, memories, etc. "Freedom" or "Free" the way I envision it, is the absence of all constraint. I can not think of any decision I have ever made in my life not influenced by prior experience, memories, or biases. I believe we inherit a genetic range within which our minds and bodies may operate, but we are still operating within the confines of these limits in everything we do, and every decision we make. This does not however make us unaccountable for our actions because we still have "circumscribed" choices that we can make within the confines of the moral universe we (or our specific society) constructs for us.

  Even the decisions we make with biological implications are governed by homeostatic, physiological processes (sex, the food we eat, the liquids we seek, etc).

  The only residual is that I still have a tendency to be judgemental. This is directly attributable to my years in the WTS being told that everything and everybody outside the kingdom hall was the spawn of satan. Why care about people that are about to be annihilated by god anyways? I am now working hard to delete all JW files from my brains hard-drive. Its a long process and trying my best to be the OPPOSITE of a JW.

  ....yawn............more mindless drivel from a creationist windbag proving he not only fails to comprehend what DNA is, but also what langauge is. Heard it all before. I especially enjoyed the random "mutation generator" claiming that all mutations must be deliterious, the same old crap the WTS tried to pawn in their "celebrated" anti-evolution book. Mutations can most certainly be good! Certain individuals are born with genetic mutations rendering them less susceptible to certain cancers for example. This is such a ludicrous argument I cant believe the creationists still try to pull that garbage out of their magic bags.

  DNA is merely a template for the coding and assembly of proteins and it is not only until we reach a much higher, macro-molecular level that we can even begin to start thinking of "messages" behind these signalling pathways. More importantly, DNA is a finite template operating from a set limit of bases. Language is an externally imposed rule-generator structure within the brain for the outward generation of internally generated concepts, desires, etc. It is, however, infinite in the potential for expression, within the realm of human experience and perception.

  I agree, it would take alot of restraint to reason with a kid but I think its worth it in the end. Besides, from all the other things you wrote, I think your child will be well balanced enough that you wont have to worry about any spankings anyways. I think we would all like parents like you!!

  Well now that I see the context I can understand your position. The letter seems "sweetly condescending" for lack of a better term. But its the typical JW mindset, assuming if you are not "in the truth" you must be living a life of debauchery. I would write back and tell her how great your life is and how fulfilled you are (without even mentioning the JWs) !
