C.T. Russell and the fiery trial of the church in 1910......
by kid-A inin thy kingdom come, c.t.
russell derives 4 dates that he believes correspond to biblical prophecy based upon several pyramid measurements.
he derived the 1914 (1915) dates from measurements of the entrance passage from one of the tombs to the entrance of the funerary pit, thus on page 342 he states:

Trying one more time...lol....
In thy kingdom come, C.T. Russell derives 4 dates that he believes correspond to biblical prophecy based upon several pyramid measurements.
He derived the 1914 (1915) dates from measurements of the entrance passage from one of the tombs to the entrance of the funerary “pit”, thus on page 342 he states:
“The measuring down the “entrance passages” from that point, to find the distance to the entrance of the “pit”, representing the great trouble and destruction with which this age is to close, when evil will be overthrown from power, we find it to 3457 inches, symbolizing 3457 years from the above date, b.c. 1542. This calculation shows a.d. 1915 as marking the beginning of the period of trouble.....Thus the pyramid witnesses that the close of 1914 will be the beginning of the time of trouble....”
We read further on, pages 363-364, wherein Russell now begins deriving dates based on measurements of the “Grand Gallery” of the pyramid (based on the measurements of Dr. Piazzi Smyth). He states:

What silly rules did your congregation make up?
by weinermcgee inelders were famous for making up stupid rules with no bible base at all as an ego trip i guess, what were some of yours?
i am not talking about the stupid rules that we all had to follow, just the congregation specific silly ones.. 1. having to button your jacket while on stage (this was later changed due to all the elders having a beer gut).
2. suits only or no privledges.
-
kid-A
1. Plain white shirts only for men, no patterns or colours allowed.
2. Normal neckties, no bow-ties, crevattes, pocket squares, etc.
3. No casual style "slacks" with blazer, had to be a matching suit!

worldly, ex dub or current dub?
by pratt1 in.
for those of you in a serious relationship, is your partner "worldly", an ex dub, or a current dub?.
my wife is an ex dub like me.. it certainly helps that she understands why i am the way i am, and the actions of her in - laws.. what about you?
-

A "worldly" wife, my soul-mate and the love of my life!! As I have always believed, even though there are advantages to being with somebody who has shared your experiences in life, it also means double the emotional baggage and worse, double the number of still active JW relatives you have to deal with, further complicating your lives and the lives of any potential children you want to keep as far away from the borg as possible !!!!

Why write a letter of disassociation?
by tfsm inmy question may seem vague but if one decides to leave "the organization", why write a formal letter?
why not just leave and not have any further contact with the witnesses?
is there some legitimate legal reason for this or do people do this because the witness thinking has overtaken their logic?

I think it ultimately depends on who you are writing the letter for. If the goal is to explain your actions and/or reasons for leaving to the elders, I would fully agree with darth, the letter will be read by 2-3 elders then thrown in the trash. All it will accomplish from that side is to reinforce what an evil apostate you are to the body of elders, give them a power trip, and possibly cause problems for any remaining dub relatives or friends you have in the hall (yes I have seen this happen many times...guilt by association).
But if you are writing the letter as a form of catharsis and release, then I can certainly see the benefit of it. Seems to totally depend on the unique circumstances.
