I think the illustrations fell into several catorgries, 1, The Fear pics - Armageddon, buildings falling down, burning, running scared people etc, 2, The Paradise pics - lots of blue sky, animals, happy looking drones etc, 3, Death and Resurection pics - could also include the silly time lines of a person ageing in this section, 4, Prophetic pics and date diagrams - like the tree being chopped down and 607 = 1914 pic in live forever book, also all the trippy pics in Rev book (I 'd love some of what those artists were on). I think thats generally it, but im sure there are a few catorgries I've forgotton. All the illustrations were wrong.

The Irony never ceases...Analysis of the "Daniel" Book
by riotgirlpeeps inthe latest book being studied in book study is the pay attention to daniel's prophecy book published by the org in 1999. the following is paragraph 31 on page 29. even this testimony is not enough for many bible critics.
after considering this subject thoroughly, one cannot help but wonder if any amount of evidence would be enough to convince them.
one professor at oxford university wrote: nothing is gained by a mere answer to objections, so long as the original prejudice, there cannot be a supernatural prophecy, remains.

Ridiculous Analogy by a Simpleton Elder (CHOCOLATE CAKE/ALCOHOLISM)
by GetBusyLiving inan old witness friend of mine had a serious drinking problem and went to an elder in his hall for some help.
the elder tried to console him and told him that he could understand what he was going through.
he said "i have an addiction too you know - chocolate cake.

Thats such a typical response from them, instead of listening they like to tell you about themselves. Sorry to hear about your friends subsequent fall into drugs and alcohol, and ultimate death. Good point about the trained clergy.

Congrats!, maybe this is just the start of what should be a great relationship for you both, just take things slowly and never attack his beliefs. I know where your coming from, it is wiered if you dont understand the JW mind. Good luck to ya.

Just curious...."service, and gas money"
by riotgirlpeeps inlocally on occasion it was the common practice when "in service" to leave gas money for the driver.
i know that the individuals if savvy can get a tax credit for mileage for service (and i was once told mileage to and from public talks could also be included).
what i am curious about is do people still give the driver money for thier trouble?

I hated taking my vehicle on the FS, everyone would trash it, leave crap all over the floor, hardly ever got money for the fuel but at least I was helping those who hadn't the means to transport themselves, I mean the lazy idividuals who didnt work fulltime, so couldn't get a car, but just bummed of those of us who after working all week, would then waste our precious weekends dribbling crap all over the country side. AAHHHH!

**MUST READ** AlanF's email to Knocking.org
by sf inthis is a must-read that, hopefully, will stay an "active topic" for all seekers and lurkers, by bumping it to the top as often as possible.
alan wrote it in randys {dogpatch} thread regarding knocking.org documentary and in reply to the email mr. engardio sent to barbara anderson.
however, it is so vital a read that it indeed needs its own thread:.

Worth the time to read. I wish I had seen this kind of material years ago.

How can they be so full of themselves? Geeeeeeeez
by pennycandy ini just read this watchtower article posted in another thread by wanderlustguy.
i can't believe that the faithful and discreet slave can read such an article, boasting the magnificence of themselves, blatantly declaring themselves tested and approved by jesus himself, higher than all others, and then say, "yes, this article is true and good.
send it to the presses.

It looks like certifiable madness, and why the men with the straight jackets haven't been sent in to "help" these poor deluded leaders is beyond me. Also I m in the same position with the old parents, to long inside means they refuse to see it as a cult, because if they did, it would be to much to take that their entire adult lives have been wasted. Such a waste.

Could never really be bothered to talk on these type of places, but then the more I do it , the more I realise I need to do it. Have been totally addicted to this place since finding it, from the freeminds site, the people are great, and the sarcasm extremly healing.

Intellectual starvation among JWs
by zagor inwanted to write another topic entirely, but after quite some thinking i thought that one particular topic should be addressed.
especially, for people still feeling confused.
we often wonder why so many dubs looks like zombies, why it is hard to make them see the real truth about the truth, why cant they discuss any topic in depth without resorting to reasoning book or other wtbs literature, why it is that they are so easily manipulated, why it is that they are filled with apostate state of mind fears (fearing to question anything), why, why, why?

I would agree with what you have here, its sad but true. There are those JW who would consider that they are even more intellectual than most due to extensive bible study and higher reasoning concepts that they only employ. By the way what part of aus are you from?
