  Holiday Pagan Chart of JW's

  in looking through my files i came across this interesting information.

  i may have orginally found this link here, but it was 2 years ago and my mind is a blurr from then.

  the chart has a column for pagan custom, wt reason, reality check.

  What the JWs never realise is that it is the spirit behind the act that really matters, even if some things have pagan origins their pagan content and spirit was detached long ago and a christian one grafted on them. Eg Christmas is all about Jesus so who cares about Saturnalia etc who even knows about them?

  What most Christians never realize is that it is nigh impossible to detach the pagan content and spirit. The Tree, the date itself!!

  This is one subject on which I rather agree with the JWs on. Fortunately for me, I'm no Christian, so quite enjoy these pagan holidays, even if the Christians have tried to haphazardly patch their savior onto it. (or is it ?)

  The western church leaders selected DEC-25 because this was already the date recognized throughout the Roman Empire as the birthday of various Pagan gods.

  these articles i send to you lisa are sent with the purpose of answering any questions you may have, instead they seem to be causing some confusion which is certainly not my intention, the truths of the bible are clear and simple, jesus christ certainly demonstrated that when he was on the earth, so why not compare with what jesus taught along with how he taught, to see who are following his example.. this is the attachment:.

  Does this admission of making mistakes stamp them as false prophets? Not at all, for false prophets do not admit to making mistakes.

  Comes from always being afraid of being who you really are, saying what you really think, wearing what you really WOULD if it were acceptable. Being afraid that someone will see the 'real' me. Because the real me isn't really acceptable. Its been really 20+ years since I left, I really ought to get over it.

  I know exactly where you're coming from. It's been 15 years for me and only in the last four years or so did I finally, finally start being myself regardless the consequences. For me, I just really, somehow, changed my attitude to one in which I really didn't care what anyone else thinks. And you know what? I found that my kind of people just started to gravitate towards me. The people that weren't, drifted away.

  Southgate Congregation in Garland, TX.

  Some of the other guys and I visited Lakeview Congregation also in Garland, TX on occasion, mainly to check out the girls in that cong. when things got sparce in ours.

• Did it take you a long time to readjust your view-
  point regarding people?

I was in one of those odd JW families who was allowed to associate loosely with worldy people even outside of necessity. So I had a bit more balanced view than some perhaps... there was not really any adjustment period for me.

• How did you feel socially after leaving the organization?

I always felt socially inept not so much because of the restrictions against associating with worldly people, but because we were raised to be meek and to submit to pretty much any authority. I had rather low self-esteem, wouldn't look people in the eyes, stand up for myself, etc. But I would also argue defiantly to try to support that "I am right about everything" attitude. I think many of us here recognize that old demon well though.

• Have you made a smooth adjustment or are you
  challenged socially at times?

I have to keep an eye on myself. I will sometimes catch myself creeping back into that frame of mind/behavior. I'm still a bit of an introvert, but I actually rather like myself that way, so it's not much of an issue.
