  Not any more absurd as suggesting that "other" people should just magically learn a new language. Could you do so? Would you do so?

  Of course that's absurd. If they had come here legally, however, they would be on track to learning the language.

  Straw man. No one expects anyone to "magically" learn the language, I hope.

  But, were I to move to another country to live, I certainly would learn as much as I could, as soon as I could. At least after being there a year, I would expect I'd be able to hold somewhat a normal conversation in the native language of the country, whether is is the "official" language or not.

  Right. I suspect the Mexican government wants the poor mestizos out, which is a reason so little is being done. It's a problem for them and they don't want to deal with it.

  See what I mean about English? If people in neighboring states speak different versions, who can say what is "official" enough to be the law?

  LOL! Are there any linguists paying attention to this?

  So, because there are different dialects or regional differences with regards a spoken tongue, you suggest a state/country should not be able to declare an official language? This is just absurd.

  Boston English, Texan English, Bronx English... it's still English and I can still understand generally what comes out of the mouths of New Yorkers.

  For what it's worth, since you don't know anything about the Dallas area, despite it's name, Farmer's Branch has no farmers and is just north of the Dallas line. By no stretch of the mind is it "podunk".

  And while prevalant, it's not all that peculiar to this state.

  LOL! Yes, I did.

  If you REALLY lived in Texas, you would know that Texans use regional expressions that tend to distinguish them from the rest of the US. "Nuke-You-Lar" in place of "nuclear" is a famous one that is delivered almost nightly over the TV by our President. I can't understand those damn Texans. I think we should make a law that says they have to speak English.

  Born and raised Texan here. I don't believe I have ever said "nuke-you-lar".

  I used to have a penpal in Southampton UK. I can recall the first letter I received from him. He asked if we still had to have someone riding shotgun. Talk about a skewed sense of reality.

  Either you're just being an ass or you really do think in such stereotypes. I think you are probably much more disposed to racial stereotyping as well.

  And all this coming from someone in a state in which this sort of thing happens - Teen Arrested for Raping his Mother... in Alabama.

  How many eJW forums do you belong to ?

  i am registered to about maybe 4 but only look at the others quickly, to see whats going on.

  i usually spend my time here.. the big thing i started to notice is that it is always the same dozen or so peeps, i couldnt see the point in going from one forum to the other as they are all talking about the same thing (or poster).

  so if you go regular to other forums how do you keep up with all the in fighting (which really puts me off) and the continual banter between the select few.. what do you get out of other ex jw forums that you dont get from here ?????.

  I like some of the folks that post on one of the forums... but a lot of the other folks seem to be behaving very much like high school students.

  My feelings precisely Jim_TX.

  I'm on one more, but I haven't visited there in a while. I tired very quickly of the trolling and the drama.

  As far as having "English as an official language", I'm sorry but the land of "fixin' to" (and numerous other expressions like "deeeeewwwww wut" in place of "could you repeat that please?" delivered with a vacuous expression and copious mouth breathing) seems to have already exempted itself from using any form of English that I am familiar with.

  I think you're thinking about the Appalachian mountain people.

  How is it you're okay with businesses taking advantage of illegal immigrants' vulnerability?

  Before I comment on anything else, could you point me to something, anything , I said that would lead one to conclude that that is my position?

  We've all gotten far more from Mexican immigrants than most Americans are willing to admit. They are here because we give them jobs. We give them jobs because we have work that need to be done.

  You know, I hear this frequently enough. But I can remember a time when the majority of fast food jobs, etc. were taken by teens rather than people who are likely to be illegal immigrants.

  We give them jobs because they're adults who are willing to work for bare minimum. How is it you're okay with businesses taking advantage of illegal immigrants' vulnerability?

  Adding or subtracting the word "illegal" does not really change much in that economic equation.

  The difference the legal status makes is that businesses aren't as easily able to take advantage of legal citizens who aren't afraid to report their employers to the authorities for mistreating them or underpaying them. I think this is very important.

  2000. my daughter and i did not get any visit or tract.. i thought this was supposed to be a final warning - a life saving work.. not complaining, but just curious if you didn't get one.. juni .
