Well its over....
by kerj2leev inafter 13years of marriage, today it finally came to an end!.
it felt very strange as i entered into the court room, my attorney on the right and hers on the left.
we were the first group of 15 or 16 case to be heard today.

I've been there. But for me it was just my lawyer, the judge, myself and a bunch of strangers... like hemplover, just "yes, yes... yes... ... yes" and then it was done.
It was depressing for a time, but it became very apparent that it was absolutely for the best. I'm so much happier today than when I was in that marriage that should never have been. No regrets as I have a wonderful son from it. But dissolving the marriage turned out to be a most positive thing.
Chin up. It will take time. Mourn as you need to. Remember that you have friends that care about you.

I baked my very first pecan pie for our company's Thanksgiving potluck today. The only other thing I've ever baked was a batch of chocolate chip cookies. Well, the pie was a hit. Out of the desserts, with a slice gone here and a slice gone there, mine is just about gone already.
Yes, I'm a bit proud.
This Thurs., my son and I are going to my sister's home for a family Thanksgiving dinner there. And, of course, we'll be watching the Cowboys slaughter the Buccaneers as well, all fat and happy.
Good times...

purpose

Thanks, bro...
I wanted to add... that sometimes, during the middle of my little purpose crisis, I think that perhaps there is meaningful purpose, but that I'm just ignorant of it, that I'm just too blinded by... something...
I was blinded for so long. What's to say I'm not still?

Narkissos, that is simply fantastic! A keeper...
CHL, what's more... consider what the purpose of any purpose might be. I go through this on occasion.
What's the purpose of purpose? Say I define a purpose... what's the point? I die. Do I live on somehow, in spirit? If I don't, what's the point. What is my legacy? Say I have a soul that survives physical death... to what end? 'Oh it joins with the Source', blah, blah, blah... so what? So I end up with a heroin high for the rest of my spiritual existence from being near some core soul energy or whatever you might call it. Big deal? What is the purpose of purpose? Why have one? Why create one? It's all cyclical and meaningless ultimately.

The Science of Belief
by LittleToe intime and again the refrain is heard that belief and science are mutually exclusive, that belief somehow corrupts good science, that belief is not empirical.
i'd like to throw another slant on that, if i may.. belief is an inherent part of the human psyche.
the desire to know more about our environment and how it all works is also an inherent part of our psyche.

This is all very good to see discussed here.
At this point, I'm not to enjoin completely, but I wanted to quote a very close magician friend of mine. (Magician, as in, actually practices ceremonial, ritualistic magick, not illusion or sleight of hand.)
I once asked him if spirits exist, if gods exist, if any entities beyond those that we can see and feel, exist. His response was that it didn't matter. Because it is "as if" they existed.
This always stuck with me because he understood that there is no objective proof to be had. His point was for me to discover the power of the unconscious and its archetypes myself.
And I did prove it to myself. Whether I believe in these supernatural entities or not made no difference in my experience. Appeals to them, if performed properly, in alignment with their archetypal form within our unconscious, proper type and amount of force, proper direction, with good understanding of the medium and the subject, will produce results. Hell, even without all of that, there is likely to be some result. It just might not be what was intended.
Through a daily ritual practice, with daily adorations to the "Lord of the Universe" over a period of a few months, my life was changed. It was a very difficult transition. It was a trial by fire. But I am a much, much better person for it.
And, in all ways, I may as well be an atheist. I do not believe in some objective being or beings "out there"... even though the cleansing process I went through was successful, my "prayers" were answered.

One of the biggest JW myths they use to make them seem special is they they alone use Ha-shem's proper name, Jehovah.
I can recall how surprised my father was at my worldly, shriner, uncle's surprise when my dad used the name. Apparently, the shriners use the name in some of their rituals and it's supposed to be some secret.
You should have seen it! They both looked at each other, dumbfounded.
I feel like that prisoner, Mathias, about to be stoned for saying the name, in The Life of Brian...
- [Matthias is about to be stoned to death]
- Matthias: Look, I don't think it ought to be blasphemy, just for saying "Jehovah".
- [Everyone gasps]
- Jewish Official: You're only making it worse for yourself!
- Matthias: Making it worse?! How can it be worse? Jehovah! Jehovah! Jehovah!
- Jewish Official: I'm warning you. If you say 'Jehovah' once more--
- [Mrs. A. throws a rock at the Jewish Official]
- Jewish Official: Right. Who threw that? Come on. Who threw that?
- Crowd: She did! It was her! [suddenly speaking as men] He! He. Him. Him. Him. Him. Him. Him. (Because, you know, women weren't allowed at stonings, I suppose.)
- Jewish Official: Was it you?
- Mrs. A.: Yes.
- Jewish Official: Right...
- Mrs. A.: Well, you did say 'Jehovah.'
- Crowd: Ah! Ooh!...
- [Crowd throws rocks at Mrs. A.]
- Jewish Official: Stop! Stop, will you?! Stop that! Stop it! Now, look! No one is to stone anyone until I blow this whistle! Do you understand?! Even, and I want to make this absolutely clear... ... even if they do say 'Jehovah.'
- Crowd: Ooh...!
- [Jewish Official gets stoned to death]

What helps me is knowing that though things may feel horrible at the time, when I look back, even the bad things ended up creating an even greater good.
My being cast from the JW sect freed me. My divorce taught me tough lessons I obviously was not learning.
If I could reach out to anyone, it would be to convince them that from bad often comes good, if they have the right attitude about it, taking it as a lesson to be learned and to move forward a stronger, better person for it.

Thanks for sharing that.
As you probably know now, that sort of unloving behavior is quite typical for congregations across the globe. When we were most in our times of need, we were not treated with loving kindness. We were treated with indifference at best... unless they thought we were doing something wrong. And we must have been if we weren't painting a smile on each and every meeting, just trudging along.
It's that lack of true love of their brothers and sisters in their times of need which tells a tale of from where that religion truly comes.
