A former poster on JWD needs some help

in an effort to keep things confidential for a friend, but to provide him with assistance if possible from those who can help, i post this thread.

here is the body of the email that i received today - a follow up from his mention of the same in a phone conversation this weekend.

in an effort to stay 'out of the middle of things', i will forward this thread address to him by email, and i have asked him to watch the thread for your suggestions.

Lately, I too have been having dreams about JW's I knew. The dreams aren't particularly unpleasant. But in them I seem to be back in the JW mode as I interact with them, wearing dresses and the like. I am not feeling like a JW in the dreams and the conversation isn't about witness stuff. Just sort of .."hey, how have you been?" type of thing.

I've been curious as to why I am having them now after being out 7 years.

Hopefully, knowing that other ex JW's have them as well will help the person know he is not going crazy or abnormal. Apparently, it's just part of the exiting process for some.

when i was exiting, i would read this board and i learned a lot.

there were tons of people that were realizing the truth about the organization.

i had already read critical books about jws but this site was a daily, regular "spiritual feeding".

Even though I haven't posted much through the years, I read it nearly everyday. It's been such a comfort to know that I could always come here to find other "like minded" souls who have gone through the same things I have as an ex jw. It's been my soft place to fall. It was great to get news ahead of time about what was going down in the org.

I want to add my thanks to Simon and Angharad for all of the hard work and dedication they put in to give us this wonderful opportunity to heal and move on. It definetely made it easier to process all of the emotions that go with the realization of what the JW's are truly about.

Why On Earth Did YOU Ever Become a JW???

My best friend was studying with them. We were both in our twenties and at a low point in our lives and questioning things together. I saw her change into a better person and was very impressed. I wanted that too so I allowed myself to be persuaded.

But really, in my heart of hearts, I couldn't stand the witnesses. I hated their badgering about studying with me but was too weak and "polite" to blow them off. I'm imbarrased about betraying myself and wasting 20 years with a bunch of people who didn't give a crap about me and visa versa.

The friend would eventually change again, this time to a crazy person who needs lots of meds and who shakes uncontrollably. She doesn't realize that the choice of becoming a JW is what is working on her psyche and making her mentally ill.

Memorial conundrum - "So good to see you. Where have you been?"

ok, gearing up for the memorial - our annual have to attend.

this is the first year that we will be showing up without having been to meetings in months.

on the last meeting i was cajoled into attending, i was bombarded with the above question.

When they used to ask me where I'd been, I simply responded "well, I'm here now, arent I?". That stopped them cold.

I never could buy into adults being accountable to other adults for anything.

You don't owe them an explanation. They should join you in the here and now and be grateful you showed up at all.

An Example of honesty wt Feb.2007

the wbts has published many of these, where money is found and returned to the owner .with a reason,because i am a jw.in this issue,there is a big picture of nelma:a woman from chuzeiro do sul,brazil.she apparently found $1000.00 in the pockets of some trousers that were donated because of a flood.nelma returned the money to the businesswoman who had donated the clothing.this lady was overjoyed to receive the money,because she had set aside her payroll for her employees in a trouser pocket.. should they(gb/fds) be idolizing these honest people?.

note:no man should be idolized.christians should guard against idolatry.it means giving such a one a measure of worshipful devotion.but god explicitly stated that he does not tolerate such a thing.however,they (gb/fds) lack proper perspective,of knowledge and understanding of honest people helping people.it is as if by exalting a fellow human creature they are lifting themselves up also.. now here is an example from the world.. this is from a wordly newspaper.yes i know the wts says these are half truths.i will not quote the whole article.

"i am contacting your newspaper in the hope that i may be able to puplicly thank the good samaritans who helped me when my truck broke down on the highway just......on date.in my distress,i regrettably failed to get the name of this kind young man from...who went home to get a vehicle that could tow my vehicle back to the city.and than to top it off,drove me to get a room for the night.my thanks are also extended to the hotel owner to drove me to my truck.he gives more praise.......thank you for the opportunity to express my gratitude to all who assisted me to return home safely".

ABR....exactly! It's always made me sick to hear them do this. They apply the scriptures they want and ignore the fact that when they boast, they are having their reward in full. No one wants to hear bragging and boasting in an obvious attempt to appear superior to others.

A couple of my faves...check out Lindsey Buckingham's banjo style riff "Big Love" on Fleetwood Mac's "The Dance" CD. Also some southern rockers, The Outlaws.."Green Grass and High Tides". Can't forget Lynard Skynard's "Free Bird" and "That Smell". Amazing stuff!

Were You Ever In The Congregation Clique?

Nah. At first I thought I was during the initial lovebombing/honeymoon phase. Then it all went away, of course. It felt like I was supposed to continually earn my keep and work my a** off just to keep the sister's speaking to me. I didn't need their crumbs and started doing things by myself or just with my children. Towards the end, I was checking out FS territory and working it when I felt like it and many times alone. Didn't even meet at the hall sometimes with the group. Very un-theocratic of me! It was so much better than meeting with those cold sisters and carting their butts around when I knew they had not a care one for me as a person. But, I was occasionally invited to functions when a gift was expected. Once I was invited to a wedding but the reception card was intentionally left out of the envelope. Translation..give a gift but you can't taint our party with your unwholesome presence.

So glad I'm outa there and have normal friends now!

panda's husband died...

our dear friend, panda's, husband died of a heart attack a night ago.

she is a sweetheart, and she didn't want to tell us because she was thinking that it would make people feel bad.

she is feeling very bad, that's forsure.
