Just an Idea....
by RichieRich inso, every thursday morning, my congregation does phone witnessing from about 9:30 til noon.
its actually quite enjoyable, sitting around a table, drinking coffee, eating doughnuts, and laughing.. well, when a "householder" isn't home, a message is left including the phone number to the kingdom hall.
often, people call back, either irate, or inquisitive.. so, i was thinking,.

What a great idea, educate some witnesses and take up their witnessing time. Some Christian religions use the same tactic of talking to the JWs at their doors to waste their time and prevent them talking to and trying to convert others

What many people do not realise is that these figures do not represent the actual people witnessing in August. If a person has not put a report in for three months, and so in August puts in one for June, July and August, it all gets added to the August total. The WTS does not go back and amend the previous months.
In August there is a push for anyone that was irregular to put in all their reports to close of the end of the service year. This leads to an unnatural spike for the month. The average of all 12 months is therefore a more accuarate reflection of what the true growth rate is. -

There Are Over 6 Million Jehovah's Witnesses.....
by Honesty inwho blindly adhere to wtbts doctrines.
how can they be christians when they refuse to accept jesus as their mediator?

The reason there is an issue here is because the teaching that an earthly great crowd are not part of the covenant is unsupported scripturally. Because the NT does not discuss such a concept the FDS has free reign to make this mean whatever it wants. If the great crowd are not part of the new covenant then Jesus is not their mediator. But what teachings of Jesus supports that a group of Christians would not be part of this covenant and would not be born again?
What i thought this thread was going to be about was: There are over 6 million Jehovah's Witnesses ...... that means Jehovah is soon going to kill 99.9% of the earth population of 6 billion people.
OR
.... apart from those of us who have been screwed up by the WTS, the religion is really an irrelevant and often unheard of speck in the scheme of things. -

The only reason i can imagine they have gone monthly is due to profit margins. (Despite the statement a few months ago that they dropped it to concentrate more on the more important bible doctrines in the Watchtower).
When i was in bethel the cost to print an Awake was about 20 cents, and they sold for about 80 cents, quite a good mark up. With the dramatically dropping amount of donations coming out of the field there is no real profit incentive to print it anymore.
I imagine there may also be difficulty getting free labour into bethel in the US these days. The other option could have been to print in Mexico. There is a line to get into bethel, as the standard of living being a bethelite is considerably higher than fending for oneself. That was why the average Mexican used to stay in bethel for 10 years while it was only 2 years in Australia. -

Do you believe that "all men are created equal"?
by nicolaou in"we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
even leaving god and religion to one side, are all humans born equal?
certainly not in their circumstances, but what about potential?

Reminds me of the Trinity teaching. There is a difference depending on whether a person is discussing the ontological or economical situation.
Ontologically all men are equal, you are as important as the next person, regardless of their station in life. Economically though people are of different value. Some people excel in certain areas, and so are not equal to others, whether they be a great husband, father, golf player or leader of a country.
That is why the death penalty is so debatable. Some truly evil people deserve to die, but why did they turn out that way. They were born ontologically equal to others but somewhere along the line things went wrong. Why, was it bad upbringing, mental disease, genetic malfunctioning? Are they to blame for such things? -

It is easier not to get involved then to leave later on. Once a JW she will loose contact with 'worldly' friends, and contact with mental reality. I would really encourage her to research other peoples opinions of the WTS before getting baptised, it is far easier than leaving after baptism.
Is she already at the stage of being scared to look at things not written in the Watchtower? If not, try to get her to look at research on JW topics such as on this site. -

Jehovah is a misspelled Hebrew word for "lord"

did you know that jehovah is really a miss-spelled word in hebrew from the word adonai in hebrew?.

Honesty,
that was a really good point. To most people the name Jehovah has not been honored, it is just a joke that represents a bunch of cult members, held in similar derision as the likes of Mormons and Hare Krishna's. -

The NIV: The Making of a Contemporary Translation CHAPTER 9: YHWH Sabaoth: “The Lord Almighty” Kenneth L. Barker
There is almost universal consensus among scholars today that the sacred Tetragrammaton (YHWH) is to be vocalized and pronounced Yahweh.2 Probably the name means literally “He is.
In the Hebrew Bible the Jews wrote the consonants of the Tetragrammaton as YHWH, but out of reverence for the sacred name of God (or out of fear of violating Exod. 20:7; Lev. 24:16), they vocalized and pronounced it as Adonai or occasionally as Elohim. It is unfortunate, then, that the name was transliterated into German and ultimately into English as Jehovah (which is the way the name is represented in the American Standard Version of 1901), for this conflate form represents the vowels of Adonai superimposed on the consonants of Yahweh, and it was never intended by the Jews to be read as Yehowah (or Jehovah).
I have an article about Jehovah at http://jwfacts.com/index_files/Jehovah.htm
What I found most surprising is that YHWH has never been found in any NT manuscript. To include Jehovah in the NWT is its single biggest flaw, and significantly changes the words of Jesus. If no manuscript ever included it, then Jesus most likely did not utter the word Yahweh, which means using Jehovah is not what is important.
All this leads to the understanding that most Christians have, the important thing is recognising the value of Jesus Ransom sacrifice.
