You write beautifully AuldSoul.
I am planning to put together some guidelines on ways to leave the organisation and would love to include this and the results that follow, both now from the elders response and long term from the brothers.
.
the name was suggested by someone who posts here, since it is not really a disassociation letter.
here, for your criticism pleasure, is my "un"association letter..

i tried to ask elders and they got upset with me.
if bad associations spoil useful habits, why did jesus do it?
why is nothing new ever discovered from the bible?
i wish i knew the answer to the question about your mum. It is usually impossible to change the mind of someone truly committed. The more you try to change your mum the more she will resist you. All I can hope is that she keeps contact with you, that family keep in touch is more important than whether they believe what you believe. I have had many discussions with my mother and never cease to be amazed by the unintelligible reasoning she uses to protect her self from acknowledging she may be wrong.

you have some interesting ideas David.
I like the bit about Jonah. He was upset that God saved everyone in Ninevah. Can you imagine if JWs got through Armageddon and found they werent the only ones saved, how pissed off would they be? "I devoted my life to a boring organisation for you Jehovah and you've gone and saved everyone else as well, its not fair!!!".
well i'm still a witness so i was out in field service yesterday with this brother.
our conversation hit the usual stuff cars, television, movies.
then he went on to relate how about a month ago, the two head elders (head as in, the other elders really dont matter)took him into the back room and fryed him.
he shouldnt do anything about it, if he goes to the CO he will look like he is being disrepectful and get in more trouble. Remember they had two witnesses and he didnt, so they will deny being anything but up upbuilding.
Maybe it will make him think deeper about whether the cong really has Gods holy spirit directing it, and start doing some research.
It is easy to put a good spin on any situation, as the WTS has done in your letter.
At least this situation woke many people up to look a bit more closely at things and start to find out many other things that are unacceptable within the WTS.
ain't life grand!

Yes Ozzie, Sydney is just perfect, where else would anyone want to live?
as some of you may know (from my previous posts), i'm studying with the jw's (& have been for 2 years) but have decided not to be baptized after reading some of the information and links from this site.
however, i am supposed to be having one last book study to finish the worship the one true god book.
when i do this study, i'm considering being upfront with my bible study conductor, telling her some of my reasons for deciding not to become a jw.
Lynnmelo, you have really hit the nail on the head. To determine if a teaching is correct you need to understand the underlying premise. The underlying premise to all the unusual JW teachings is that Jehovah directs the GB. To question that and prove that premise wrong is to prove the WTS to be wrong.
I would not get hung up on Mat 13:24, it is a vague parable that can be interpretted any which way. Anyone can apply it to themselves. How do we not know it was referring to the Mormons or the 7 day adventists etc. I would discuss two things, has there been evidence of a 1900 yo F&D slave. Have they proven to be guided by holy spirit in this century?
I posted info at http://jwfacts.com/index_files/slave.htm about the F&D slave and the concept of an organisation. Many JWs will say that the Watchtower has identified other worshippers throughout history, so I did some research toward the end of the article to show none of them listed in the Watchtower were worshipping God the JW way. Ask "Who was the F&D slave directly before Russell?"
The other thing to do is to determine if holy spirit is guiding the GB now. Why did they get so many date prophecies wrong? (1799, 1874, 1881, 1914, 1925) Why did they say we should worship Jesus until the 1950's, but disfellowship you for it now? How come Jehovah guided Russell to write entire chapters about the pyramids if that was wrong? How come Russell said superior Authorities are the goverments, Rutherford said it was Jehovah, Knorr changed it back to being Jehovah? When will we be sure it is truth?
You know the F&D slave did not always exist and is not directed by holy spirit. Maybe your study conductor will come to the same conclusion. Then you can study with her the truth about things such as the blood issue, that Christianity is about Jesus, why use of the name Jehovah is not required to be acceptable to God, why disfellowshipping is wrongly practiced by JW's.
a very loyal and loving jw requested that i read the book jehovah's witnesses proclaimers of god's kingdom, sincerely confident that it will lay to rest all my objections and convince me this is indeed god's organization to which i must return right away.. ok, i will read it, but only because it's my mother that asked it of me, and she has tried so hard to be tolerant and understanding of where i am coming from as regards my firm stand in not returning.. i thought i would post my notes along the way in case they would be useful to someone else, and if anyone wants to add their own thoughts and notes i would be grateful.
chapter 1--why should jehovah have witnesses?.
since all references to such in the bible are pre-christian and refer to israelites being witnesses that their god, yhwh, is the god, the one god, the only god, and in a contractual relationship with them.
I was just starting to have doubts when this book came out. I could barely make myself read it. Every page, every experience seemed to me to be proving it was an organisation led by men not by holy spirit. I doubt it will help your faith in the least, but rather prove beyond doubt how wrong it all is.
However, i know JWs who think it is great, it shows to them what a remarkable and honest org the WTS is.
1st question...
was the medical information:.
a) highly influential.
1, 1 a-highly influential
1, 2 c -not influential
2 Yes, trusted every word
I imagine it is the trusters that are most upset to know they were conned, and the ones most looking forward to some justice.
.
what questions should a study ask before joining the jw org?
how will i know i am not assigned to witness with a pedophile?
Why did the Watchtower need to join to United nations, was it really for a library card?
If followers used to believe in 1799, 1874, 1881, 1925 when those teachings were wrong, how do i know i am not wrong in believing what is taught now?
