Hi Deeski's, it would be great to catch up. When I get hold of Ozzie we'll see what we can organise. Since you have the furthest to travel we'll arrange it around whatever is best for you. I have never really gotten into chat rooms before this one either, it is great, like a family.

I loved the article. In the Watchtower there are always quotes about how much people love the witnesses having conventions because they as so lovely. This article didnt mention that at all, it kept saying how much money the JWs bring to the economy. LOL

I think it has to do with the wording of the new announcement. It was changed for legal reasons, but is confusing many JWs.
Two friends were d/f for apostasy a few months ago and no one in the congregation knows if they really were or not.
I was d/f last night (which i will discuss in a new thread later). My mother in law doesnt even realise. She called saying it was announced i am no longer one of JW's and did not know that it meant i was d/f.
I am sure if too many people start talking to the d/f people there will be a few more articles written to stop them. You can be sure the WTS is very scared about legal ramifications and will be extremely careful as to how they word future Watchtowers about those no longer JW's. -

There are a lot of Gods to a lot of different people. Which one? I would really need to know find out what he had to say in regards to who he is, why life is as it is and what we can look forward to.
If God is exactly like how the WTS explains him, I would find it almost impossible to. A bloodthirsty God that slaughters people that have never heard of him, I can not think of what he could say to make it justifiable.
Think of the flood, no ressurection for the drown. It has been calculated that about 1 billion (1,000,000,000) people were alive then. Man had been multiplying for 2000 years and spread around the earth. How many did Noah preach to? 1,000 or even 10,000. That leaves around a billion people that were born in sin that never knew God, didn't have a bible and never heard Noah's warning.
Was that justifiable punishment? If it was I have no desire to know God.
It is said a bad son brings shame on its father. If that is the case, than how is Satan and Adam supposed to make us feel about God if the WTS explaination, particularly in regard to the sovereignty issue is correct? -

What was "it" that opened your eyes?
by jiggulz inlike so many people, i'm (very carefully)trying to convey the obvious "truth" about the wtb&ts to some of the members of my family.
is there any key point that "stands out" in your memory as pivotal in the opening of your eyes?
or any particular point that may have opened the eyes of your loved ones?

For me there was an event 10 years ago that almost did it, but not quite. A brother and sister from bethel were moved into my congregation. He was appointed an elder whilst there. A year later it came out that he had been having an affair for the last 7 years. It woke me up that holy spirit does not guide things and put me into a spiritual limbo ever since, but I still fell for the line 'but we are the only ones with truth'
When the Tsunami hit last year a friend told me that there was a tsunami in the same location that killed more people 300 years ago. I thought i would research earthquakes. I felt like i had been hit in the head with a bat. Without ever realising it, the WTS statements that there has been as many large earthquakes in the 1900s as in the 2000 years before was really key to my belief that 1914 was the start of the last days. To find that is a LIE, that earthquakes have been constant, and that every encylopedia etc backs that up virtually destroyed me. I started to find that my entire life had been based on lie upon lie. I am starting to realise that my behaviour since that moment has been classic symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. It is only 12 months later that i think i have begun to sort my self out and build a new life.
Coffee, that word 'filth' is so fitting. I have seen exactly the same experience with JW kids on a number of occasions. A friend of my had to pick her 6 yo child up from school because another child was having her birthday and the JW kid started saying she would be killed by God at Armageddon.
I recently saw another JW child saying the same thing about a worldly person and the look in this childs eyes just chilled me. -

5 minute guide to knowing if Jehovah's Witnesses have the truth
by jwfacts ini have just posted a new article at http://www.jwfacts.com/index_files/5min.htm that is copied below.
can you please check it and make any suggestions?
a few bits may not make total sense as they are links to other pages in the website.

Hi Ringo5,
Apparently Rutherford started giving his talk Millions now Living in 1918 (though i don't have any proof of that.) The booklet was then printed for mass distribution in 1920.
YC, that is a good change you have suggested. I have learnt a lot about writing over the last year, and still have a lot to learn. The way I originally wrote was very inflammatory and I have had to train myself to be far more polite and factual in order to make a point without upsetting people. Thanks.
Deeskis, It may be nice to catch up one day, there are a few from NSW on this board, but not enough yet. -

When the Christians were being guided by holy spirit they always spoke truth, when not they didnt. It is the same in the OT. When moses was being directed by God he spoke truth, but that did not stop him then going and saying the wrong thing when striking the rock.
For that reason the circumcision issue was being spoken wrongly by individuals. But when they convenened as a group and prayed for the guidanance of holy spirit they came up with the solution.
The WTS GB trys to follow the bible and pray for holy spirit to direct their interpretation of new doctrine, yet have regularly have promoted wrong ones. It is fine for an individual GB member to say a mistake in conversation. But to pray for holy spirit, write the decision in the Watchtower, say it is to be accepted as the 'voice of God', and then later change it because it was wrong is an entirely different thing. How would you feel if in Acts the apostles said circumsion was no longer necessary, and then to have John say in Revelation that the GB was wrong and we all (at least all the males) need to get circumcised after all? You could have no confidence in the bible.

Undecided, your thread has been highjacked but it certainly started an interesting topic.
It is great to hear what you have done. There comes a time when you realise you can not spend the rest of you life being manipulated by the WTS. If you are unable to talk freely to others about what you believe then a person is still being affected by them. It is good you had to courage to stand up for what you believe in and who knows, it may do some good.
