jwfacts.com has received ongoing growth, year on year. The more that the Watchtower promotes the internet, the more that JWs will be exposed to other information, and knowledge is power. No doubt, many mindlessly follow Watchtower instruction to avoid any other sites, but there are a good number that will not. I know that if the internet was around when I was a teenager, I would never have been baptised, or left in my 20s, not waited till 35.

Talk about depressed
by zeb inmy wife is preparing to spend hundreds on a lap top to take into the field service.
i carefully mentioned that the wts has gone from condemning the web to now using it.. her reply" no they never condemned it just said to people to be careful in using it".
my memories of convention speakers must be different and" this is the way things are now; its all downloaded from the web".. with that as a given then why isnt the wts issuing computers to any one who wants one?

TTATT family blow out
by redvip2000 infor those of you who have a minute to read this, here is a report from my family trip.. i was in florida for the holidays visiting my older sister and family, along with my parents which were also visiting.. although i've had conversations with my mother about the organization, my sister and her family had no idea of my position in regards to the (un)truth - perhaps because we live far away from each other.
i knew the day was coming.... on my second day there, the whole family was sitting around bs-ing about different stuff, and as usual my mother starts with the "world is getting worse by the day" conversation, followed by approving nods and smart remarks from the rest of the family.
i then politely told them that this was not true, that in fact the world has never been better.

You handled it very well, and bought up good points. It is enlightening seeing how JWs put their entire life in the hands of something they know so little about. Just be careful not to push the too far, though I wonder if it is worth sending just quotes to back up what you said about 1914, and the GB not being enspired.

Lozhasleft A mother should have a bond for a child that is far stronger than what any religious leader dictates to them.
I have the greatest respect for you JWfacts, it's too simplistic though to believe the above.
I'm sorry if anyone took the comment as a personal insult, as that was not intended. We are all aware of how powerful the mind control is. In this situation the mother sounds as if she is becoming aware of issues with the religion, and so it is time to humby undo the damage that has been done.

URGENT MESSAGE
by love2Bworldly indid anyone else get a huge all caps urgent message showing at the top of your screen where sometimes ads are?
the words were so big, it jumped out at me and it was weird.
i did not click on it, and hope it's not a virus or something..
-
jwfacts
If it is where the ads usually are, it is an ad, not a virus. Ad agencies can be very deceitful, so it is good to learn to recognise what is just an ad and ignore them. Sometimes they will look like you have an email message, other times there will be a cross that you think closes the ad but actually opens the ad. Learn to recognise them so that you can avoid clicking through.

I went to a wedding last month between an Australian woman and Half Maouri man. Half way through the speaches, two men jumped up and did the haka. It was the scariest thing when they jumped up screaming and stomping, until I realised what was happening.

When selling was preaching ...
by Hecce ini am going way, way back.
history reveals that in the beginning the wt was just a publishing house, selling books and magazines; over the years it evolved into what it is today..
the placement of the original publications was mostly done thru sales people masquerading as preachers.

jwfacts
It was not that long ago. I was a pioneer when we were able to buy the magazines at a discount to what we sold them for.
As mentioned, the only reason that it changed was due to taxation legislation and the fear of paying taxes on sales of literature. This was linked both to Swaggart and a case they lost in France demanding paying of back taxes. I personally feel the Watchtower made a huge financial mistake in moving across to a donation model, as the revenues declined rapidly since then. Since tax is only paid on profit and not revenue, the amount of tax that would have been obliged to pay would have been less than the revenue they have lost since changing from a sales to a donation model.

SweetLittleMAJM - your message here is kind and it is hard to know how to respond.
My mother mostly shuns me, but tries to reach out through my wife to speak to her grandson. I will never be able to respect her for falling prey so such a blatantly false religion, and dragging the rest of my family through it. I could still love her though, and want her in my life regardless, except for the fact that she chose the religion over me and shunned me. It is very hard to ever forgive that. On another thread you tried to justify yourself by saying your Catholic brother did the same. That is totally irrelevant. A mother should have a bond for a child that is far stronger than what any religious leader dictates to them. Human nature, love and Christian standards all should naturally tell you that you should have a relationship with your family regardless of what they choose to believe. Being a JW makes it hard, as you have to covertly be in communication, but your daughter and grandchildren should know that they come first.

See http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/directed-by-holy-spirit.php for quote about how the preposterous GB claim they are directing by Holy Spirit to come up with doctrine, despite so many of them having been wrong.
