Good points Kaik. Cults largest area for recruitment are 15 - 25 year olds that are looking for meaning. Also, as you say, the last couple of centuries saw the tide swing against the corruption and out of date teachings of large established religion. These days they are turning against religion in general.

1914 countdown card in 2014 Yearbook
by jwfacts inthe 2014 yearbook has a scan of the 1914 countdown card.
it does not say whether this was published by the watchtower or independently, so please let me know if you have any further information about it.
in typical offensive fashion, the yearbook blames the members rather than themselves for the false expectations held for 1914.. some bible students even carried a countdown card so that they could mark off each passing day.

Keep in mind that the JW believe that in the time of the end (now) the love of God will cool off, resulting in the increase of hours per new baptized person. It’s a good thing.
Yes, they want to have it both ways. Growth proves God is blessing the organisation in the time of the end, decreases prove it is the time of the end.
Once everyone had a chance to get baptized the Armageddon will happen.
That proves Armageddon will never happen. In countries such as China only a very tiny portion of the population has access to the Watchtower message.

I feel that the increase in average number of publishers would be decreasing more than displayed if the WTBTS did not reduce how many hours it takes to be a publisher.
Similarly for why conversions are taking so many hours is that the preaching work is such a joke now, with people sitting in a park or mall for a few hours next to a literature stand ignoring everyone.

One of the important figures to look at is the ratio of Bible Studies to Publishers, as this is a good predictor of growth. Globally there are more Bible Studies than publishers, and in countries with growth around 2% and more that is also generally the case. In the US growth is down to 1% and there are only 732,326 studies for 1,167,723 publishers. In Australia, the number of studies is less than half the number of publishers, which is why growth is now less than the population growth.

There are no real surprises, with very similar results as during the last couple of years. The religion continues to grow, but with increasing ineffectiveness. There are more hours being spent and more bible studies year on year, yet only a similar increase in publishers.

but that they teach the truth about the trinity, the paradise earth, etc.
It would be good if he were open to reading through jwfacts.com about the doctrine, as it does highlight how Watchtower doctrine is poor, and based on a lot of dishonest information, misquotes and selective presentation of facts. For example, see Trinity and Paradise Earth. In neither article is a Christian agenda pushed, but just rather it shows the fallacies behind how the Watchtower directs their members to believe inaccurate information.
