It shows how strong the cognitive dissonance is. JW's are regularly making these sorts of comments on the internet in the face of clear proof they are wrong. There is a link on jw.org of that very video, yet these types of JW's are saying it does not exist. They call it an apostate lie, and then refuse to click on the link in case it proves them wrong. I saw a similar discussion the other day regarding disfellowshipping.

I have made my decision
by Brother Mike ini'm sure most of you have read bits and pieces of my story throughout the last year being on this site.
i've decided as a human being, and as an adult, i'm going to make the decision on whether to stay with the jw religion or leave it.
i of course have many doubts about the organization which has lead me to do research.

The Watchtower is under siege from inside and outside
by suavojr inthat is the reason the watchtower leaders are desperately trying to protect their indoctrinated supporters from being influenced by the critics.. it will get harder and harder to recruit in countries where the internet is easily accessible...the watchtower has no control over the public like it does the indoctrinated jws.
..any interested person can very easily google and learn the truth about the watchtower cult before a 'return visit' can be made.
although most jws would be afraid to go into 'apostate ' sites, more and more are waking up to the truth about the watchtower , their interest triggered by different reasons such as the child abuse cover up, the constantly changing doctrines, the downsizing etc.

dang near impossible, from now on for JWs to attract qualitynew ones (from the outside)
That really is the point. It is already hard to recruit quality people. Any educated, thinking person is going to research prior to joining, in which case it is virtually impossible to fall for the false logic.
I have seen recent discussions with JWs online, and the answer to any question is "read jw.org" without any attempt to even reason on the subject. For instance, in one the thread went like this:
Q - How is it loving for a JW to shun disfellowshipped children? (see article on shunning)
JW A - We don't shun. Don't believe what hateful apostates say. Read jw.org
Q - See this Watchtower quote, which says you shun
JW A - Read JW.org if you want the answer.

Critical Thinking from the Wife !!
by TTATTelder inthe other day i had a couple of drinks and went off on the gb (again), about how they are just posturing and have no clue.
i said if they knew what they were talking about we would already be in the new world, but we're not ..so they dont...the end.. well i got some push back as would be expected, but what surprised me was what she said a little later.
firstly she didn't pay attention to the public talk this past sunday and instead read an article in a watchtower on stress.

It is a good point. I used to wonder a similar thing - why do animals die? If humans only die because of Eve's sin of eatting from the fruit, why do animals die when they did not eat of it or sin. It seemed that life was perfectly arranged for everything and one to have a beginning and an end.

It angers me that JWs run around saying how bad the world is when this is by far the best time in all history to be alive from almost every indicator. They are hypocrites to criticise the world, but partake of all its benefits in regards to health, education, and scientific advancement such as cars, electricity and IT.

Petty Gambling
by konceptual99 inaccording to the shepherd book.... .
the elders do well not to involve themselves in what individuals do with regard to petty gambling solely for entertainment.
they may need to give counsel if this becomes a cause of stumbling for others or affects the spirituality of the individual or the congregation.-w02 11/1 p. 31.. .

Good point KateWild, it is hypocritical. I have caught many JWs on the pokies.

Newcomers to TTATT: Beware of "New Study Mode"!
by Londo111 inweve all heard it.
a person starts studying with jehovahs witnesses and love what they are learning so much that they cant stop talking about it.
bubbling with enthusiasm, they spill everything they are learning with their friends and family...or anybody who will listen.

Excellent advice. Exactly what I did, run out and tell my loved ones each piece of information I was learning as I learnt it, and lose them all in the process. It wasn't until I had learnt enough, and was disfellowshipped, that I found out that is the exact opposite of how to leave.

Who knows?
And since the afterlife is based on faith, and hence be definition is unproveable, people should spend more time concentrating on enjoying the wonders of this life, rather than putting everything on hold for the next.

Interesting, since even accepting a free lottery ticket is wrong.
Awake! 1994 August 8 p.15 Is Gambling for Christians?
What if a person is offered a free lottery ticket or free money to use for gambling? In either case, accepting such an offer would still be supporting a gambling operation—an operation out of harmony with godly principles.
Watchtower 1995 May 15 p.23
“In 1976 it was clarified that no Witness could be employed in a gambling establishment and remain in the congregation.”
I guess it is referring to play cards, such as 500 or poker, and betting wtih 5 cent pieces to keep it interesting.
