Most JWs don't remember what was said at the assembly. If you can get hold of the program, all you need to be able to recite is the name of a few of the talks. And maybe the highlights of the drama.

2nd Oct 1914 has always been the end of the Gentile times. The Watchtower just hopes people don't notice that WW1 does not sync up with the start of the last days. This is because, "Historians calculate that Babylon fell in early October of the year 539 B.C.E." "Let your Kingdom Come" p.136
*** re chap. 5 pp. 22-24 par. 3 John Beholds the Glorified Jesus ***
The major fulfillment of that prophecy started with the desolating of the kingdom of Judah, which is indicated by Bible evidence to have been completed by October 607 B.C.E. Revelation 12:6, 14 shows that 3 1/2 times amounts to 1,260 days; hence, seven times (twice that number) must be 2,520 days. Reckoning “a day for a year,” we arrive at 2,520 years as the duration of the “seven times.” (Ezekiel 4:6) Therefore, Christ Jesus began his heavenly rule in the latter part of 1914. The erupting of the first world war in that year marked “a beginning of pangs of distress” that have continued to plague mankind.
*** jv chap. 28 p. 635 Testing and Sifting From Within ***
In its issue of October 15, 1913, The Watch Tower had stated: “According to the best chronological reckoning of which we are capable, it is approximately that time—whether it be October, 1914, or later. Without dogmatizing, we are looking for certain events: (1) The termination of the Gentile Times—Gentile supremacy in the world—and (2) For the inauguration of Messiah’s Kingdom in the world.”
*** yb75 p. 73 Part 1—United States of America ***
Quite a few delegates stayed at Bethel, and, of course, members of the headquarters staff were present at the breakfast table on Friday morning, October 2. Everyone was seated when Brother Russell entered. As usual, he said cheerily, “Good morning, all.” But this particular morning was different. Instead of proceeding promptly to his seat, he clapped his hands and joyfully announced: “The Gentile times have ended; their kings have had their day.” “How we clapped our hands!” exclaims Cora Merrill. Brother Macmillan admitted: “We were highly excited and I would not have been surprised if at that moment we had just started up, that becoming the signal to begin ascending heavenward—but of course there was nothing like that, really.” Sister Merrill adds: “After a brief pause he [Russell] said: ‘Anyone disappointed? I’m not. Everything is moving right on schedule!’ Again we clapped our hands.”
*** w92 5/1 p. 6 The 1914 Generation—Why Significant? ***
On October 2, 1914, Charles Taze Russell, then president of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society, boldly announced: “The Gentile Times have ended; their kings have had their day.” How true his words proved to be! Unseen to human eyes, in October 1914 an event of world-shaking importance took place in heaven. Jesus Christ, the permanent Heir to “the throne of David,” commenced his rule as King over all mankind.

It's All About Tablets
by metatron inwell, that seems to be the latest hot thing amoung witnesses.
everybody buys a tablet.
even the poor families that eat carb heavy meals are gettin' em.. maybe they can't afford the latest apple product like the maxi/mini pad or whatever they're calling it these days so a trip to ebay or overstock.com fills the bill.. use it instead of a songbook.

This new approach is great. It cuts down on wasted paper, which helps Watchtower profit margins, as well as the environment. Watchtower needs to save costs, which is driving this reliance on technology, but in the end it will cause more harm than good, as access to the internet also gives access to education, other viewpoints, worldly friends and porn.
Once upon a time, Watchtower used to boast about their huge printing numbers. As it all moves on line, their printing will decrease. The 7 million downloads of a magazine sounds unimpressive to a young JW that knows gangnam style had over 2 billion views.

I think about seeing a therapist but then it feels like the organization is winning because they've gotten to me.
You have that back to front. The religion is winning at the moment, because they have gotten to you. A therapist can help you learn how to stop letting them get at you. I recommend Cognitive Behavioural Therapy as very affective. I know, because that was the only way I could stop thoughts about the organisation consuming me. Now I have the perfect life. I will never get over all the damage the religion has caused, but it no longer gets to me.

Corpus Linguistics - Text Analysis of All Watchtower Publications since 1800's
by objectivetruth ini've been working on a side project for a while.
the goal of the project is to create a comprehensive database of all publications throughout history.
with this database i will be able to instantly find trends in text, sentiment of writing, methods used, and scriptures emphasized.. essentially i will be able to put a word like "apostate" into my tool, and instantly receive a report showing every time the word (or similar words) has been used in all publications since 1870.. i will also be able to create reports showing word density used in publications over time.. so i'll be able to see that the word "governing body" has increased in usage 25% year over year since 1975.. or i will be able to analyze the november 2014 wt and run an algorithm that helps to determine, what the tone and motive of the writing is.. the thing that i am most excited about is the ability to instantly find every occurence of a scripture in every publication.. this will be a great tool to find flip flops in doctrine as well as inaccuracies in biblical interpretation.. i will for sure publish all interesting findings here.. .

Amazing. When are you coming to Sydney with your computer so we can catch up.
A couple of things I'm interested in off the top of my head.
The occurrence of 1914 compared to 1915 between 1910 and 1920. Russell was unsure about the zero 0 and hedged his bets by saying it could be either year that the gentile times ended. I wonder if there was a pattern of change.
When did Jehovah become more popular than Jesus? I think this was a Rutherford change, and it would be interesting to see the number of occurrences of both words over the last 100 plus years.

The Time Is Coming For Progressive Governments To Make Laws Against Oppressive Cults To Protect It's Citizens, Making Lawsuits More Plentiful Against Them
by frankiespeakin ini think as black&white thinking becomes lesser governments will start makeing laws that will put cults open for more lawsuits.
what do you think..

People are against outlawing religion, due to it encroaching upon freedom of rights.
I believe the answer is for governments to be active in taking religious groups to court when they break specific laws.
I don't believe any religoin should have tax exempt status. They should pay tax on profits. That would encourage them to stop hoarding money, and rather use it to improve the community.

The journalist is quite humourous.
The music was also super eerie , like some kind of dystopian deep cut from The Sound of Music soundtrack.
The cast delivered each line in a flat deadpan, and everyone was wearing way too much makeup. It was like a B movie made by the Bible Channel. I found it hard to keep myself from laughing.
To their credit, though, I heard a few snickers during the film from what I assume were believers. To make matters funnier, a bunch of men walked around holding “Quiet Please” signs that had already been made, as though they knew this was going to happen.

Welcome. Nice experience regarding your father. At some point in time you will need to let him know you stopped believing in the religion before going to uni, so that he does not blame himself for being too lenient in that regard. Most of the congregation will say uni corrupted you. Your BIL will be sure to rub that in. Some people blame my university education on why I left, and I just did accounting which had nothing to destroy ones faith, and made virtually no student friends.

stupid statement in watchtower about appointments of elders
by hoser inafter going through all the processes of how they appointed elders in the past they say this:.
"the elders in turn would inform the newly appointed men of their appointment, asking them if they were willing and actually qualified to accept the assignment.
so after qualifying the man you ask him if he is qualified.. .

GBRN - I'm sure this has been covered extensively, but the whole 1918/1919 thing always confused the hell out of me. Does this QFR at the end of the magazine add on at all to their newer understanding put out in 2012?
Great question, and I hope others add their thoughts. The QFR still shows the Slave was identified in 1919, but adds to my thought that 1918 is being phased out. Interesting how they now state the 1260 days "extended from 1914 to the early part of 1919. This period of time includes both the 1,260 days (42 months) and the symbolic three and a half days referred to in Revelation chapter 11." They do not specify the exact month it starts and ends in. I wonder if it has anything to do with an article I wrote, which shows the previous time frames never actually lined up.
The "prophetic time line" image shows just 1914 and 1919, without including 1918 or specifying any months. It highlights well the discrepency between the length of time of the 3 1/2 years compared to the 3 1/2 days, the first of which is said to be literal, but the second of which is said to be figurative.
From at http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/revelation-daniel-prophetic-interpretation.php
1260 days
At Daniel 12:7 and Revelation 11:3-6 it discusses a period of 3 ½ years, or 1260 days. During the 1800's the Watchtower claimed this was prophetic of 1260 years. Now it is said to be a period of days that roughly correspond to 1260 literal days. There have been at least 11 changes, spanning 9 different periods of time.
1260 Days Source Begins Ends 1 Zion’s Watch Tower Apr 1880 538 AD 1798 AD 2 Zion’s Watch Tower 1898 Sep 1 and 15 539 AD 1799 AD 3 Zion’s Watch Tower 1915 Aug 1 325 AD or 539 AD 1585 AD or 1799 AD 4 Watchtower 1929 Dec 15 1 Oct 1914 1 Apr 1918 5 Light 1 (1930) 7 Nov 1914 7 May 1918 6 Watchtower 1951 1 Oct 1914 1 Apr 1918 7 Finished Mystery (1969) 4 Oct 1914 26 Mar 1918 8 Incoming World Government (1977) 28 Dec 1914 21 Jun 1918 9 Revelation Climax (1988) 28 Jul 1914 Early 1918 10 Watchtower 1993 Nov 1 pp.9-10 Dec 1914 21 June 1918 11 Kingdom Ministry Sep 2006 Dec 1914 Jun 1918 As the 1260 days do not line up exactly with any relevant, literal time period of importance to the Watchtower, numerous adjustments have been made; none compelling, most not even 1260 days. These have related to:
- Papal Rule
- World War One
- The End of the Gentile Times
- The arrest of Rutherford
- The sentencing of Rutherford
