Have you ever considered trying ancestry.com?
by minimus ini was recently given a gift of ancestry.com and iâm curious if anyone else has used this service?.

I have used familytree. I was blown away at how accurate it was. Absolutely spot on for my ancestry, which spans a few countries. My gorgeous son is even more mixed, and the results were spot on for what I know about his motherâs background.
I also learnt a few things about my background and origin of my name that I was not aware of.

Views on the golden ratio??
by Freedom rocks inwhat are your views on the golden ratio or fibonacci sequence?
i know jws and some other groups use this as proof of gods existence.
i'm still looking into the debate but was wondering what others thought.

People seem to have a very loose concept of what constitutes âproofâ of their belief system. That something fits with a belief does not make it a proof. Many such proof can be used to support both sides of an argument, often a confusion of correlation and causation.
The Golden Ratio fits the concept of intelligent design, but no more so than it shows that the universe and evolution exist as the do because they follow a mathematical structure independent of a higher power.

Behaviour in bethel are they like the jw dramas?
by purrpurr inwhat i mean is, i've discussed recently how odd the behaviour of jws is on the drama films that they show at the conventions.
i'm wondering is the reason why it's so odd because that how's the jws at bethel talk and act in real life?
is the behaviour at bethel so warped from the outside world that they actually think that their behaviour is normal?.

When I was at Bethel there were a few types of Bethelites.
1 - constructionites who had not pioneered and seemed very âworldly.â
2 - bethelites that were representative of your normal, âstrongâ JW. They had pioneered, so been active in their congregations, and often were really nice people.
3 - eccentric ones. Often so-called spiritual young brothers that would never fit in the world, and probably didnât even fit into their congregations. The longer they stayed the stranger they got.
4 - long term Bethelites that ended up losing touch with reality after being in Bethel for decades, never worrying about earning money, paying bills, cooking for themselves or cleaning after themselves. Single brothers or couples without children, yet giving talks or writing articles on such topics.
Now the headquarters has moved out from Brooklyn they will become more insular and out of touch. At least before they could spread throughout congregations and get some interaction with people living normal lives.

Cotton wool jws
by purrpurr inthere was a talk i heard recently given by a top bethel bro, he was complaining that the type of young jws that have been joining bethel in recent years has been totally unfit for work or even life.
he called them "cotton wool jws" as he says that the parents of these young ones have kept them so sheltered from life that by the time they are of age to strike out on their own they are completely unable to cope socially, emotionally, mentally and that they have no practical life's skills or instincts of common sense or responsibility.
he said that the brothers at bethel have to work at peeling off the layers of cotton wool these ones have come wrapped in and that often when exposed to the reality of life away from mummy they quite literally go running back home.. for once i actually agree with a brother on the platform, i've met many a young teen or young adult whose life has been one long warm bath as it were.

Is it worse with JWs that have been homeschooled? I imagine homeschooling must inhibit a child developing many essential skills, except with the most diligent parents, and would be interested if there is any research into this.
I did some laboring for a JW and he commented that he was surprised that I could work hard. From his experience, regular pioneers pioneered to avoid having to work.

JaniceA - DRC is one of the most corrupt and crime ridden places on earth. I honestly donât know that JW growth is the worst thing that could happen in that place.
I tend to agree. There are many places where JW values are an improvement, and learning to read is an education. Poorer countries are a drain on Watchtower assets. All in all, conversion could be seen as a positive. My concern is the long term damage that will occur to families as the children leave and are shunned.

I'd like to see a JW witnessing trolley outside the convention, with a couple of apostate books and signs on it. JW's identify apostates standing outside a convention as persecution. Maybe if apostates stood there in the same manner as JWs stand outside public places with their trolleys, it may click that apostates are not persecuting them anymore than they are persecuting the public with their message.

Has the Governing Body ever been right?
by Jules Saturn ini asked this question to a relative after mentioning several situations where teachings were changed or readjusted (new light) and they have two reasons.
yes, they are correct because look at how the preaching work has grown through the decades and the advancements in witnessing and the second reason was the doctrine of the trinity and how the society opposes that.
i didnât really have a response, especially for the trinity doctrine.. does the governing body have the rejection of the trinity belief correct?.

Originally the Watchtower was undecided on the Trinity, with different views held by different writers. The current doctrine is simplistic and flawed. The Bible is supportive of Binitarianism, and there is logic behind the development of the Trinity. http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/trinity.php discusses this towards the end of the article.

Could the ancient Jews eat pig fractions?
by JeffT inthe recent threads on blood fractions got me to thinking about ways to expose the absurdity of the watchtower's position on blood.
so i thought of the titular question.
would a hebrew have understood the prohibition on pork as meaning he had to avoid "major" pig fractions (ham, bacon, ribs) but "minor" pig fractions like pickled feet and fried pork rinds were ok?

Sisig is a Filipino dish that I love, made up of ground pig face. I think that could be considered an allowed minor fraction.
FORNICATION FRACTIONS:" I only penetrated her half way!"
Just the tip.

The 2018 World Cup - will it stop a nasty aspect?
by The Fall Guy inthe world cup in russia is being used to launch v.a.r.
- video assistant referee.
it will be very interesting to see if/how it affects the almost obligatory cheating offences of pulling/pushing which occur every time players are in each other's penalty area.

This has been used in cricket for a number of years. Not everyone likes technology changing the flow of such a traditional game, I personally think it is a great addition to the sport. It is not perfect, but over time has been refined and in general leads to fairer decisions.
In the Australia v France match, the VAR was referred to a few times. It didn't seem to slow the play. If fans see multiple replays of an infringement, it is only fair that the referee is also able to double check what happened from multiple angles.
